Democrat politicians have been buying votes for the last two decades with two policies:
- Sanctuary cities. That is, come here, legal or not, access services which cost taxpayers money, and its fine. Whether that’s education, medical care, housing, whatever.
- Reparations. The premise that black people today are owed something due to the legacy of slavery.
I’ve dealt with the absurdity of the latter several times in my column and see no particular reason to go back through all of it here. It is simply sufficient to note that when it comes to both over-allocation of resources (e.g. dollars-per-pupil on education) and per-capita spend on welfare black people have gotten more and paid less for the last 50+ years to the tune of trillions of dollars. Anyone who wishes to argue for such has to deduct all of that out first and its entirely possible you might find that if you do black people owe everyone else, not the other way around.

Taiwan Says It’s in Talks on Being Brought Under US Nuclear Umbrella

Taiwan’s foreign minister said last week that the US and Taiwan are in talks on the possibility of the island being brought under Washington’s nuclear umbrella, a step that would make a catastrophic war between the US and China much more likely.
Taiwanese Foreign Minister Joseph Wu made the comments before Taiwan’s parliament, the Legislative Yuan. Wu declined to detail the talks when pressed if Taiwan had asked the US to bring the island its nuclear umbrella.
“Regarding the discussion of this issue with the United States, it is not suitable for me to make it public here,” Wu said, according to The South China Morning Post.

When I hover the mouse pointer over a file in one of my computer folders, a box opens above it showing the author, title (which is actually my LibreOffice template name), computer owner, and date among other things. There are two ways to prevent this from exposing personal information about me than I’d prefer when I share documents or photographs.

And of these, pondering the various adaptive strategies which species interacting with other species employ can be particularly productive.
I like to use metaphors as an insight engine. A sort of mental bridge from one field of knowledge to another. Reasoning by analogy, insights and knowledge from one discipline can often be used to break open new ways of thinking about another.

Planned Parenthood is laying off its national office staff and restructuring its organization, nearly one year after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
The abortion giant announced that it would be cutting up to 20% of its national workforce citing “difficult economic conditions”, saying “reproductive freedom is in jeopardy”.
