The Colorado Supreme Court has disqualified Donald Trump from Colorado’s 2024 presidential election ballot, and in a 4-3 ruling has effectively blocked Trump from seeking the presidency because of his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol attack, citing the post-Civil War-era 14th Amendment to the US Constitution that bans insurrectionists from holding public office. The Colorado case was the first constitutional challenge to Trump’s 2024 run to go through a full trial.

A music professor at Hunter College in New York is claiming that the lyrics to Jason Aldean’s hit single “Try That in a Small Town” promote “anti-blackness,” sidestepping the fact that they make no references to race or skin color.
Philip Ewell, a professor of music theory at Hunter College, argued Aldean’s lyrics are chock full of anti-blackness in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“Anybody really should understand that there’s a strong racial undertone to these lyrics,” he said. “Race is part of the lyrics. I think that’s pretty clear.”

California Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that 480 new cameras are being installed “along freeways and in Oakland to make the area safer.”
Describing the cameras as “high tech,” the Democrat said in a video posted on X that this will “help law enforcement identify vehicles linked to crimes using real-time information and alerts.”
