The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved Vowst, the first oral biologic drug for fecal microbiota that was shown in clinical trials to be as effective as fecal microbiota transplants given rectally. Biologic drugs are derived from blood, proteins, bacteria, and other living organisms.

For the first time in 20 years, authorities have identified locally acquired malaria cases in the United States.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced last week that four Floridians and one person in Texas are being treated for the mosquito-borne illness. They say that the Texas case is not related to those in Florida.
Malaria is a serious, potentially fatal disease that the CDC says should be treated as a medical emergency. However, it had been considered eliminated from the United States since 1951, thanks to the mosquito repellent known as DDT.

A new paper offers fresh evidence ventilators killed Covid patients, suggesting ventilator-acquired pneumonia – not Covid itself – caused many deaths, while Sars-Cov-2 was relatively mild
Aggressive use of ventilators may have killed some Covid patients, a new paper from Northwestern University researchers suggests.
Covid itself has a “relatively low mortality rate” compared to other respiratory illnesses, the researchers found after examining about 600 patients with severe pneumonia. Yet Covid patients remained intubated longer than other patients and developed secondary bacterial infections more often.

Jurors awarded seven plaintiffs $73 million in compensation and $784 million in punitive damages, after being convinced Monsanto had covered up the harmful effects of PCBs for years.
