A Cadbury store in the UK decided to rebrand Easter eggs as ‘gesture eggs’, leading to accusations that Christianity is being erased.
“The brand’s discount store in Springfields Outlet in Spalding, Lincolnshire, is displaying signs offering customers a two-for-£10 deal on “gesture eggs,” reports the Telegraph.
Cadbury responded by asserting that the store was run independently of the main company and that it didn’t have anything to do with the change, despite the promo bearing the official Cadbury logo.

However, Christians responded by asking why there is yet again an apparent effort to hide the faith at a time when it should be the most visible.

“If it wasn’t for Easter, we wouldn’t have a reason for Easter eggs,” said Tim Dieppe, the head of public policy at Christian Concern. “So I’m wondering why Cadbury wants to erase the connection between Easter and eggs, because if people stop celebrating Easter then they might stop buying Easter eggs.”
“I’m surprised that they are avoiding saying the word ‘Easter’, as that’s the time of year – it’s the Easter holidays, the Easter festival – and I’m surprised they’d want to avoid reference to Easter with things like this,” he added.
This isn’t the first time Cadbury has expressed a desire to distance itself from being associated with Easter.
In 2017, a National Trust Easter egg trail was renamed the “Great British Egg Hunt,” with the company asserting it wanted to “invite people from all faiths and none to enjoy our seasonal treats,” and in doing so alienated Christians.
