A sweeping de-banking wave has swept across Canada, affecting over 800 citizens in its tide since 2018, a number which includes hundreds who rallied behind the banner of the Freedom Convoy. Data unearthed through an access-to-information request by Blacklock’s Reporter unveiled a disturbing pattern where 837 individuals found the doors of their banks slammed shut on them over a span of five years.

    A report released this month shows that what happened in East Palestine was far from an isolated incident and that people across the country are regularly exposed to vinyl chloride pollution, particularly those living in low-income areas and communities of color.

    When a Norfolk Southern train transporting hazardous material derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, on Feb. 3, the subsequent release and explosion of chemicals fouled the air and exposed the community to a toxic cocktail of contaminants, including a substance known to cause cancer called vinyl chloride.
