U.S. Attorney Ed Martin is initiating inquiries into senior Democratic lawmakers over comments perceived as potentially threatening President Donald J. Trump and Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) chief Elon Musk. Specifically, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Representative Robert Garcia (D-CA) received inquiry letters from Martin, the top federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C.
Martin’s investigation is focused on public comments made by the two national Democratic lawmakers in public settings. For Garcia, Martin is demanding an explanation for remarks the California Democrat made during a recent CNN appearance. During the interview, Garcia made derogatory remarks regarding Musk and pushed for a more aggressive approach to fighting DOGE, saying, “What the American public want is for us to bring actual weapons to this bar fight,” Garcia said. “This is an actual fight for democracy.”
