I was once told by a social media user than when ANP used the term “False flag,” in a headline, they couldn’t get their followers to share it because they would tell her “no, it wasn’t a hoax,” proving that some Americans do not know the difference between a false flag and a hoax.

While regular ANP readers know the difference, we do still get new readers, so let us begin with those two definitions.

Hoax is defined as “something intended to deceive or defraud.”

False Flag is defined as “a hostile or harmful action (such as an attack) that is designed to look like it was perpetrated by someone other than the person or group responsible for it.”
