On March 7, 2024, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster signed a bill that recently made South Carolina the 29th state with Constitutional Carry.

McMaster signed the legislation on March, and it subsequently went into effect immediately:

Per a WPDE report, South Carolina’s Constitutional Carry law allows lawful residents who are 18 years old and up to carry a firearm for self-defense purposes without having to beg the government for  permission to do so.

The new law features “increased penalties for illegal gun use and possession.”

Constitutional Carry is the most successful right-wing legislative project of the past 50 years. As AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News observed, there are 28 other Constitutional Carry states such as “Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming.”

Louisiana previously passed Constitutional Carry on March 6, 2024. Its law will go into effect on July 4, 2024. With Louisiana and South Carolina joining the ranks of Constitutional Carry states, now all red states that have gone to Trump have this law on the books. This is the product of a relentless push by the Right to make this law a reality.

The Right should thoroughly study the success of Constitutional Carry and try to replicate it on a host of other issues. As bad as things are politically in the US, there is still hope for right wing victories to come about.
