by Michael Nevradakis, Ph.D., Childrens Health Defense<\/a>:<\/em><\/p>\n The World Health Organization\u2019s 76th World Health Assembly wrapped up last week after approving a 20% budget increase to fight \u201cpandemics fueled by climate change\u2019 and \u201cemergencies of all kinds.\u201d<\/p>\n The World Health Organization\u2019s (WHO) 76th\u00a0World Health Assembly<\/a>\u00a0(WHA) wrapped up last week without members coming to a final agreement on the pandemic treaty or amendments to the international health regulations (IHR).<\/p>\n TRUTH LIVES on at\u00a0https:\/\/sgtreport.tv\/<\/a><\/p>\n However, there were significant developments, including:<\/p>\n The new developments were in addition to those The Defender reported on last week, including the release of a new bureau\u2019s text of the draft pandemic treaty and new proposals to limit free speech and\u00a0personal liberties<\/a>.<\/p>\n More pandemics coming \u2014 but they aren\u2019t the only threat, WHO says<\/strong><\/p>\n Addressing the WHA<\/a>\u00a0on May 22, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said his recent declaration to end the\u00a0COVID-19<\/a>\u00a0as a global health emergency is \u201cnot the end of COVID-19 as a global health threat.\u201d<\/p>\n Tedros told WHA member states:<\/p>\n \u201cThe threat of another variant emerging that causes new surges of disease and death remains. And the threat of another pathogen emerging with even deadlier potential remains \u2026 When the next pandemic comes knocking \u2014 and it will \u2014 we must be ready to answer decisively, collectively and equitably.\u201d<\/p>\n Future pandemics aren\u2019t the only threat humanity faces or that the WHO must be ready to respond to, Tedros said.<\/p>\n \u201cPandemics are far from the only threat we face,\u201d he said. \u201cIn a world of overlapping and converging crises, an effective architecture for health emergency preparedness and response must address emergencies of all kinds.\u201d<\/p>\n This statement comes as the U.N. General Assembly is discussing its\u00a0Pandemic Preparedness, Prevention and Response<\/a>\u00a0initiative, which will empower the U.N. secretary-general to quickly respond to \u201cglobal shocks\u201d related to pandemics, the climate, biological warfare, cyberspace or supply chain disruptions, an \u201cevent in outer space\u201d or an \u201cunforeseen\u00a0black swan event<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n Tedros used this threat to urge the WHO member states to successfully complete negotiations regarding the pandemic treaty and IHR amendments, \u201cso the world will never again have to face the devastation of a pandemic like COVID-19.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe cannot kick this can down the road,\u201d he said. \u201cIf we do not make the changes that must be made, then who will? And if we do not make them now, then when?\u201d<\/p>\n\n
