\/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reclaimthenet.org\/uk-nudge-unit-banks-carbon-footprint-tracking\">Behavioural Insights Team (BIT)<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 started by the UK government to then in late 2021 become owned by Nesta, which describes itself as an independent charity focused on innovation \u2013 has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bi.team\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/How-to-build-a-Net-Zero-society_Jan-2023.pdf\">a new report out.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And while its authors present it as a useful \u201cguide\u201d toward building \u201ca net zero society,\u201d what observers critical of this content have taken away from it is that it is promoting, and detailing, various forms of psychological data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">https:\/\/sgtreport.tv\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The problem that Behavioural Insights Team (aka, \u201cNudge Unit\u201d) has found for itself to solve is a part of the climate change narrative, where achieving \u201cnet zero\u201d means doing away with greenhouse gas emissions.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"This should alarm you.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XG_PhkmrPxw\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>And they don\u2019t seem to care if the way to get there is through direct manipulation of people, specifically online, via prompts (\u201cnudges\u201d) toward making choices that are not really theirs but serve the agenda.<\/p>\n<p>These choices concern and consume people\u2019s everyday lives: what they wear, what and how much they eat, how they travel to work, whether that job is \u201cclimate-friendly,\u201d how they travel just in general and where to, for example, for a vacation.<\/p>\n<p>These are all examples of what the report aims to affect from the behavioral perspective, and clearly, the \u201csolution\u201d is to actively push citizens toward \u201csocial transformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In this sense, the report recommends putting prompts in apps that would seek to direct the user to order less takeaway food through what critics might call \u201creality transformation\u201d \u2013 one suggestion is changing the name of small portions to \u201cregular portions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At one point, the report mentions BIT case study 4, which deals with \u201cexploring\u201d the role of social media influencers as vehicles to promote \u201cgreen behaviors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BIT case study 12, meanwhile, is about \u201cHelping Solent Transport deliver an effective \u2018Mobility as a Service\u2019 app.\u201d Solent Transport is a partnership with local transport authorities, while the main idea here is \u201cencouraging people out of cars\u201d and \u201cnudging\u201d them toward other means of transportation.<\/p>\n<p>BIT case study 15 is one about \u201cencouraging\u201d customers to order smaller portions on takeaway platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Several suggestions are made to make \u201csustainable food easy,\u201d including utilizing the fact that online shopping \u201cgives many opportunities to provide timely substitution prompts, or encourage personalized goals and tips linked to product filters and ranking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>BIT says that in producing these case studies of interventions, it partnered with \u201cHMG, the French government, UAE\u2019s Crown Prince Court, World Wildlife Forum, Unilever, Tesco, Sky, Gumtree, and Cogo,\u201d among
