Neither does Disney, nor many if not most other large corporations.<\/em><\/p>\n

Take a look at the recent incident with our “nuclear waste person”\u00a0allegedly\u00a0<\/em><\/a>caught stealing a piece of luggage.<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>You have to be out of your mind to do something like that.\u00a0 There isn’t an “innocent explanation” for it, nor one that meets the basic test of logic.\u00a0 It has been reported that the person in question\u00a0didn’t even check a bag,\u00a0<\/em>so there was no reason for them to be in the claim area to begin with.<\/p>\n

Supposedly said person has degrees in the nuclear field from MIT.\u00a0\u00a0Is the degree worth anything and was it actually earned<\/strong>?\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>30, 40, 50 years ago we wouldn’t have a reason to ask that question\u00a0but today we do\u00a0<\/em>because colleges teach classes on “gender studies” and “whiteness as a disease”, along with similar rot, and admit people not based on their aptitude\u00a0but also based on various “diversity” checkboxes,\u00a0<\/em>whether it be race or something else.\u00a0 This was\u00a0bad\u00a0<\/em>back in the 1990s when I was running MCSNet and had people come apply to my firm for a job\u00a0as students at UofC\u00a0<\/em>who couldn’t manage to do four-function arithmetic on a piece of paper or write a basic business letter!\u00a0\u00a0The majority failed at both tasks<\/strong>\u00a0which I required to get an interview; the requirement was put in because if you couldn’t do those two things, both of which you should have to demonstrate\u00a0to graduate from High School\u00a0<\/em>you couldn’t successfully communicate to a customer that they had to pay their bill to get service restored or make change for a $20 if they came in to pay in person!<\/p>\n

We put men on the moon multiple times in rockets designed by men\u00a0using nothing more than a slide rule, pencil and paper\u00a0<\/em>for their calculations and drawings.\u00a0 Said devices\u00a0worked<\/strong>.\u00a0 Today the average college graduate appears to be unable to make change for a $20 without the computerized cash register telling them how much it is!<\/p>\n

Bob Iger is back as CEO of Disney<\/a>, which has seen its stock price collapse.\u00a0 Meanwhile the price of admission to the parks has skyrocketed.\u00a0\u00a0What are you getting for the money and why is it that ever-increasing cost to the customer hasn’t translated into ever-increasing EPS?\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>That’s obvious:\u00a0The firm is bleeding money out of severed-arterial size holes.<\/strong>\u00a0 Iger claims he will “quiet down” the\u00a0culture war\u00a0<\/em>controversies.\u00a0 Uh huh.\u00a0 Sure he will.\u00a0 Disney\u00a0used to be<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0<\/em>family-friendly company — meaning\u00a0parents with kids<\/em>\u00a0— in all respects:\u00a0Movies, theme parks, merchandise, etc.<\/em>\u00a0 Like it or not 95% of the families\u00a0are in fact one man and one woman raising some number of children<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0even though in today’s world many of those couples do not remain together through that full 18+ year journey.\u00a0 If you as a corporation cater to the 5% who include the\u00a0small minority<\/em>\u00a0of\u00a0two dudes with an adopted or foster child\u00a0you piss off the 95% of the married, heterosexual couples with kids who have no desire to have their children consider that “normal”<\/strong>\u00a0and trying to force that into said children’s minds\u00a0is going to drive the parents away.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Disney\u00a0never\u00a0<\/em>put such content into its movies and similar production until fairly recently\u00a0and its not because Disney “hated” said people:\u00a0Its because they knew damn well that if you start playing “drag queen story hour” with your movies\u00a0heterosexual married couples with children will think you’re nuts, they do not want their children exposed to that and they won’t spend money on your products and services where it is present<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Yes, its true that larger numbers of people consider this sort of thing “ok” today compared with 20, 30 or 50 years ago.\u00a0\u00a0It doesn’t matter except to a minor degree; you’re still going to piss off the majority of the families.<\/em><\/p>\n

Never mind Disney outsourcing virtually its entire IT department to either overseas locations or firing Americans and replacing them with H1b people,\u00a0both of which were hired not for competence but rather because they checked a box — in this case, they were\u00a0cheaper<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em>If you allow a firm’s employees to “express themselves” in the products and services offered\u00a0you get whatever you hired\u00a0<\/em>and if said people were hired\u00a0not<\/strong>\u00a0with the first, second, third and\u00a0all<\/strong>\u00a0checkboxes being\u00a0only\u00a0<\/em>competence but because you had some “DIE” goals in mind\u00a0you now either must ban all such expression by the firm or you will piss off the majority of your potential customers<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n
