Four Factors that Could Help Sustain a Gold Bull Run

by Peter Schiff, Schiff Gold:

Gold has entered a bull market.

This according to an article in CityA.M., a London business daily.

The authors cite four factors that could help support a sustained gold bull run.

Global Interest Rates Will Stay Low

Despite talk of monetary tightening in the US, interest rates worldwide remain low, and in many cases negative. Worldwide, economic growth remains relatively sluggish. Inflation is not hitting the central bankers’ target. In fact, Jim Rickards recently argued that the Fed won’t even continue with its interest rate normalization.

The Fed will not hike rates again this year. Once the market wakes up to the reality of a prolonged ‘pause’ by the Fed, they will conclude correctly that the Fed is once again attempting to ease by ‘forward guidance.’ This relative ease will keep the dollar on its downward trend and be a boost to the dollar price of gold. The Fed will not hike rates regardless of the strong jobs report. The reason is that strong job growth was ‘mission accomplished’ for the Fed over a year ago. Jobs are not the determining factor in Fed rate decisions today. The determining factor is disinflation.”

Even if central banks do manage to tighten monetary policy a bit in the coming months, a recession will bring a quick return to the status quo  – plunging interest rates and quantitative easing. Peter Schiff made this very point during a recent interview on RT.

At some point, I do expect people to embrace gold. Not necessarily because of the geopolitical aspect, but because of the inflationary aspects, because people realize these fiat currencies  are going to lose a lot of purchasing power, that a lot of central banks are stuck at the zero bound, and even if they raise interest rates slightly, they’re going to lower them back down, and they keep doing quantitative easing. So, I think people will be drawn back to gold for the monetary properties it has had for centuries.”

Simply put, there is no reason to think the interest rate environment will return to “normal.” In fact, there is every reason to believe negative interest rates are in the future. That’s good for gold.

The Dollar Appears to Be Entering a Bull Market

The value of the dollar index, tracking the dollar against six major global currencies, has fallen about 10{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} since January.

“This type of broad-based decline shows you that it’s really people moving away from the dollar, rather than just moving towards these other currencies,”Sameer Samana, a global quantitative and technical strategist at Wells Fargo based in St. Louis, Missouri, told the BBC.

In a nutshell, Donald Trump.

The BBC report pointed out that the dollar rallied right after the election based primarily on optimism about Trump’s economic program, including tax cuts, Obamacare repeal, deregulation, and infrastructure spending. But it’s looking increasingly less likely that the president and the GOP are going to get those things done. Peter made this same point in an interview on Fox Business.

The dollar originally rallied because people were confident there was going to be some significant change under Trump. One of the reasons that the dollar surrendered those gains is because nothing has changed. Look, the problem with Trump taking credit for victories he hasn’t won is it’s going to come back and bite him, because he’s setting people up for a lot of disappointment.”

Peter has also predicted that the Fed will ultimately sacrifice the dollar.

Ultimately, the big move in the dollar is going to come when they have to stop raising rates, when they have to admit they are finished tightening, and that they’re going to start easing again, because that hasn’t even begun to be factored into the dollar. Wait until the Fed has to cut rates. Wait until they have to do QE4. I mean, the dollar is losing ground right now when people expect quantitative tightening. They expect the Fed to be shrinking its balance sheet later this year. When the markets are surprised by the Fed having to admit the balance sheet is going to grow even larger instead, I think it’s a long way down for the dollar.”

Chinese Demand

As we reported last spring, Chinese investors are buying gold bars at a torrid rate. China’s appetitehelped drive global demand for physical gold up 9{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} in the first quarter of 2017. Chinese investors gobbled up 105.9 tons of gold in Q1. That represents a 30{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} year-on-year increase, and was the fourth strongest quarter on record.

The World Gold Council cited several reasons for surging demand for the yellow metal in China, including weakness in the yuan, falling real estate prices, low interest rates, and good old safe-haven buying.

There’s every indication the demand for gold in China will continue. The World Gold Council predicts Chinese demand will be helped along by technological advances allowing more and more investors to easily buy gold.

Groundbreaking Study Shows Fasting Can Slow Aging, Rebuild, Immune System, Reverse Diabetes

by Jay Syrmopoulos, The Free Thought Project:

Groundbreaking research reveals the dramatic healing benefits of a fasting mimicking diet, including rebooting the immune system and slowing aging.

Los Angeles, CA – Cutting edge research reveals that occasionally adopting a diet that mimics the effects of fasting may provide dramatic health benefits.

“Fasting flips a regenerative switch essentially regenerating the entire immune system. It gives the OK for stem cells to go begin proliferating and rebuild the entire system,” said Prof Valter Longo, Professor of Gerontology and the Biological Sciences at the University of California.

A study, led by USC’s Dr. Valter, revealed that a “cycles of a four-day low-calorie diet that mimics fasting (FMD) cut visceral belly fat and elevated the number of progenitor and stem cells in several organs of old mice — including the brain, where it boosted neural regeneration and improved learning and memory,” according to USC News.

The initial tests on mice were part of a three-tiered study on the effects of periodic fasting — testing yeast, mice and humans — which was published in Cell Metabolism on June 18, 2015.

According to a report from USC News:

Mice, which have relatively short life spans, provided details about fasting’s lifelong effects. Yeast, which are simpler organisms, allowed Longo to uncover the biological mechanisms that fasting triggers at a cellular level. And a pilot study in humans found evidence that the mouse and yeast studies were, indeed, applicable to humans.

Bimonthly cycles that lasted four days of an FMD which started at middle age extended life span, reduced the incidence of cancer, boosted the immune system, reduced inflammatory diseases, slowed bone mineral density loss and improved the cognitive abilities of older mice tracked in the study. The total monthly calorie intake was the same for the FMD and control diet groups, indicating that the effects were not the result of an overall dietary restriction.

In a pilot human trial, three cycles of a similar diet were given to 19 subjects once a month for five days and decreased risk factors and biomarkers for aging, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer with no major adverse side effects, according to Longo.

Dr. Longo notes that strict fasting can be difficult for people to adhere to, and also has the potential to be dangerous, while pointing out that a fasting mimicking diet is much safer and easier.

“Strict fasting is hard for people to stick to, and it can also be dangerous, so we developed a complex diet that triggers the same effects in the body,” said Longo, Edna M. Jones Professor of Biogerontology at the USC Davis School of Gerontology and director of the USC Longevity Institute. “I’ve personally tried both, and the fasting mimicking diet is a lot easier and also a lot safer.”

The fasting mimicking diet cuts a person’s daily caloric intake over the fasting period down to 34 to 54 percent of their daily average, with a specific balance of micronutrients, fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.

In previous groundbreaking research, Longo has shown how fasting can protect immune and other cells from chemotherapy toxicity, while simultaneously starving out cancer cells. Fasting for seventy-two hours protected cancer patients against the toxic impact of chemotherapy:

“Chemotherapy causes significant collateral damage to the immune system. The results of this study suggest fasting may mitigate the harmful effects of chemotherapy,” said co-author Tanya Dorff, assistant professor of clinical medicine at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital.

“We are investigating the possibility that these effects are applicable to different systems and organs, not just the immune system”, Longo said.

“The good news is the body got rid of the parts in the system which might be damaged or old and inefficient parts, during the fasting. If you start with a system heavily damaged by chemotherapy or aging, fasting cycles can generate, literally, a new immune system,” he said.

USC News reports that:

For 25 days a month, study participants went back to their regular eating habits — good or bad — once they finished the treatment. They were not asked to change their diet and still saw positive changes.

Longo believes that for most normal people, the FMD can be done every three to six months, depending on the abdominal circumference and health status. For obese subjects or those with elevated disease risk factors, the FMD could be recommended by the physician as often as once every two weeks. His group is testing its effect in a randomized clinical trial, which will be completed soon, with more than 70 subjects.

“It’s about reprogramming the body so it enters a slower aging mode, but also rejuvenating it through stem cell-based regeneration,” Longo said. “It’s not a typical diet because it isn’t something you need to stay on.”

“If the results remain as positive as the current ones, I believe this FMD will represent the first safe and effective intervention to promote positive changes associated with longevity and health span, which can be recommended by a physician,” Longo told USC News. “We will soon meet with FDA officers to pursue several FDA claims for disease prevention and treatment.”

Yellen Reveals She Also Does Not Understand What it all Crashed in 2007-2010

by Martin Armstrong, Armstrong Economics:

The head of the Federal Reserve, Janet Yellen, has warned politicians against turning back financial market regulation, yet she herself does not comprehend what the regulation truly accomplished. She has warned that any adjustments to the framework should be discreet. The Jackson Hole gathering turned out to be financially tense. Yellen admonished politicians stating bluntly that this is a question of preserving the “increased resilience of the financial system” through the course of reforms. Some were expecting Yellen to point the finger at lower interest rate monetary policy of past Chairmen, but she did not. She was addressing the issues of regulation reform being suggested by Trump’s people. Indeed, Trump has ordered that the Wall Street reforms of 2010 be reviewed.

Many suspect that Yellen’s speech will be her last. She essentially disagreed with the position of Trump and Congressional Republicans that the regulatory burden is strangling lending and has hamstrung the economy under Dodd-Frank, which gave the financial supervision far greater power, yet remain bewildered and in the dark concerning the causes of the 2007-2010 crash. Trump is absolutely correct that Dodd-Frank cannot truly function properly and it is so far off the mark, it is simply slowing down the economy. Yellen also said in Jackson Hole that some people were obviously forgetting how expensive the crisis had been.

The entire regulation took aim at only the results and not the cause of the crash. Nobody seems to really understand just how significant the entire economy was altered when Clinton who was in the pocket of the bakers. By the time Clinton signed the Financial Services Modernization Act, commonly known as Gramm-Leach-Bliley, repealing the key components of GlassSteagall in 1999, nobody on Capitol Hill understood what the implications truly were, not even Larry Summers, the father of negative interest rates.

I wrote a full report on how they altered the economy forever changing our banking system from Relationship Banking to Transactional Banking. The arguments how this would reduce risk for banks overturning the regulation of the Great Depression, Glass-Steagall, have gone over the heads of everyone on Capitol Hill and I suspect Donald Trump as well.

There is precious little that anyone seems to comprehend about the core structural changes the Clinton put in place. Even Yellen is operating from an assumption that Dodd-Frank  is good regulation. What it did was put the burden on the people once again and never addressed the structural changes of the Clintons.

There are no mirrors in Washington. If Congress ever dared to look into a mirror they would see what they really are – a bunch of idiots and fools seeking to regulate the economy over which they never comprehend and they lack personal experience to even understand the subject matter.

Name George Soros ‘Enemy Of The State’ And Charge Him With Sedition To End Antifa & The Color Revolution Happening in America

by Susan Duclos, All News Pipeline:

One of the questions we see across the Internet is why groups that fall under the “Antifa” umbrella, that have used violence and threats to force the cancellation of free speech rallies, or have shown up to counter-protest similar rallies scheduled by conservatives, dressed in black, with masks, carrying bats and clubs, using pepper spray on attendees and attacking them, haven’t been officially designated as “domestic terror” groups by the Trump administration.

The answer to that question is because multiple, individual groups claiming they are “anti-fascist” fall under that “Antifa umbrella,” but are not officially named “Antifa.”

18 U.S. Code § 2331 defines “Domestic Terrorism” in the following manner:

(5) the term “domestic terrorism” means activities that—

(A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State;

(B) appear to be intended—

(i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population;

(ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or

(iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and

(C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States

There is no doubt that the rioting, the violence, the attacks against peaceful rallies turning them into free-for-alls, falls directly under that federal legal definition, and that groups such as the official Antifa groups, that use “Antifa” in their name, encouraging a violent uprising, specifically stating they plan to use violence in order to “shut down” a rally, an event, or a free speech protest, can and should be beofficially designated as terrorist organizations by the U.S. government, as over 300,000 people are demanding on the White House petition website.

The problem is “Antifa” is a very large umbrella, and formally designating them terrorists would not stop other groups that do not use “Antifa” in their name.

For example, ANP previously reported on an armed groups called “Redneck Revolt,” which offers a manual on how to execute, kidnap, sabotage and commit terrorism against Americans, and while stated their goals, of violent “revolution,” to end capitalism in favor of communistic goals, and they hand out fliers at events official Antifa groups show up at, they are not one of those official Antifa groups, by name, yet their goal to overthrow the duly election government of the U.S. perfectly aligns with the official Antifa groups.

Another group being labeled “Antifa,” described by The Daily Caller in an article titled “Antifa Has A New Cell In Philly, And They’re Calling For Property Seizures, Violence On Police, And All-Out Revolution,” is actually called “the Revolutionary Abolitionist Movement, and while their website highlights the “rise of Antifa,” designating Antifa itself as a domestic terror group, would not legally include them.

Then we have By Any Means Necessary (BAMN), that publicly talks of using “any means necessary,” including violence to “shut down” a planned march against Marxism in Berkeley.

BAMN is organizing to shut down what it claims is a “Neo-Nazi” rally in Berkeley on Saturday. The rally is titled “No to Marxism in America.” The rally organizer, a biological man who identified himself as a transgender woman to media outlets, claims the rally is not a “right-wing” rally, embraces diversity and is meant to oppose the spread of Marxism in Berkeley.

Refuse Fascism, the group behind the violent, politically motivated riots in Berkeley, has previously declared their goal of making America “ungovernable,” while the communist group Workers World Party,  “sent many of its members to Charlottesville, Va., to ‘beat back the Nazis and Klan who marched there’, according to a post recapping the group’s participation in the weekend’s violence.” (Source)

RelatedIn Their Own Words: The Radical Political Goals Of ‘Anti-Fascists’

There are dozens of other groups and websites that claim to be “anti-fascists,” while using fascists tactics to shut down free speech, and any conservative rally, with claims that they are all “neo.nazi” or white supremacist rallies, and all calling for violence and “revolution”.

In there lies the problem.

In January we were warned that “A ‘Color Revolution’ Is Under Way in the United States,”  and that is exactly what all of these groups are attempting. They are well funded, many of which have recieved donations and funding by groups associated with George Soros, who was largely responsible for “color revolutions” in other countries. (See more on that here)

Via Breitbart:

The Alliance for Global Justice, which is funded by the George Soros-backed Tides Foundation, reportedly donated $50,000 to fund Refuse Fascism, which openly brags about using violence to shut down conservative and libertarian speech.

“While it is unclear whether those who carried out the violence were paid to do so, the benefactors of the Alliance for Global Justice — and Refuse Fascism — are listed online,” reported the Daily Caller. “According to its most recent 990 tax form, Alliance for Global Justice (AfGJ) received $2.2 million in funding for the fiscal year ending in March 2016. One of the group’s biggest donors is the Tides Foundation, a non-profit funded by billionaire progressive philanthropist George Soros. Tides gave AfGJ $50,000.”

While we could go into a detailed list of those color revolutions, the links above should explain for those interested, but bottom line, there are groups, funding these “anti-fascist” groups in order to create civil unrest in order to topple the duly elected U.S. government, which is exactly what a color revolution is.

Even the NYT admitted that George Soros “funded, or has close relationships with, at least 56 of the Vulgar Vagina march’s partners, from the inauguration day protests,  including ‘key partners’ Planned Parenthood, which opposes Trump’s anti-abortion policy, and the National Resource Defense Council, which opposes Trump’s environmental policies.” (Archive is link here)

The short answer to whether the color revolution happening in America right now can be stopped, is yes….. by the Trump administrationlisting George Soros as “enemy of the state,” as other countries have done. The U.S. should go further and charge Soros with sedition.

18 U.S. Code § 2384 – Seditious conspiracy: “If two or more persons in any State or Territory, or in any place subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, conspire to overthrow, put down, or to destroy by force the Government of the United States, or to levy war against them, or to oppose by force the authority thereof, or by force to prevent, hinder, or delay the execution of any law of the United States, or by force to seize, take, or possess any property of the United States contrary to the authority thereof, they shall each be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than twenty years, or both.”

If the DOJ follows the money, they prove the seditious conspiracy.

There is an expression about cutting the head off the snake, taking the leader out so the other enemies are easier to deal with, and if Soros is labeled an enemy of the state and charged with sedition, the Antifa groups will no longer have the funding to create the violent chaos they have been causing and can be dealt with much faster.

Adulting And The Dumbing Down Of The American Grown Up

by Sigmund Fraud, Activist Post:

The term ‘arrested development’ comes to mind when pondering the all too often ludicrous behavior of modern adults. It is used to describe people who are stuck in a childlike level of psychological development, unable to grow beyond the behaviors, attitudes and dependencies that mark the pre-adulthood stage of life. Something is holding them back, or something is preventing them from moving forward.

The esteemed author and scholar of mythology, Joseph Campbell, reminds us that in cultures from around the world, the journey from adolescence to adulthood is a big deal, historically marked with ceremony and rites of passage. In this, a young person must confront their greatest fears, overcome them, then integrate themselves into the world as a newly established co-creator, abandoning the roles of dependent and victim.

The boys are brought up to be in fear of the masks that the men wear in their rituals. These are the gods. These are the personification of the power and the structure of society. The boy, when he gets to be more than his mother can handle, the men come in with their masks, and they grab the kid, and he thinks he’s been taken by the Gods.

The mask represents the power that is shaping the society and that has shaped our world, and now you are a representative of that power. – Joseph Campbell

But there is nothing to speak of in contemporary life that serves this purpose, and it is quite evident when observing the behavior of many modern adults that people just don’t seem to have grown up beyond adolescence. What passes for adult behavior these days is all to often comical, embarrassing, even frightening. Like a theatre of the absurd, bubbling just below the surface in America is a collective temper tantrum. It could be generational, but one must account for the effect that each generation has on the development of the next to come.

Avoidance of responsibility has become en vogue, and there is now an actual thing called ‘adulting.’ Essentially it is a cultural meme where grown people complain about having to deal with the day-to-day responsibilities of life after childhood.

And so this jokey way of describing one’s engagement in adult behaviors—whether that is doing your own taxes, buying your first lawn mower, staying in on a Friday, being someone’s boss or getting super pumped about home appliances—can help those millennials acknowledge and/or make fun of and/or come to grips with that transition (or how late they are to it).

This is, after all, a transition their friends may not be going through yet or one that might seem to herald that certain end to their fading youth. To say you are “adulting” is to, on some level, create distance between you and what are implied to be actual adults who are adulting 100{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} of the time and therefore have little reason to acknowledge it. Or if they do, they might instead use phrases like “going about my normal day.” [Source]

Basic life skills such as changing a tireboiling an egg, or cooking a meal, are being forgotten, somehow lost in a consumer’s paradise of instant gratification among infinite options. Adulting celebrates the idea that handling life’s basic responsibilities is praiseworthy, which is a tremendous lowering of standards, a dumbing down of our potential.

Child Sent to Principal’s Office for Correctly Identifying Gender of Little Boy Who Claims He’s a Girl

by Suzanne Hamner, Freedom Outpost:

Yesterday, this writer reported on the incident at Rocklin Academy, a California charter school, where a kindergarten teacher read a transgender promoting book to the class and allowed the transgender child to change clothing in the classroom causing many children to become confused and afraid.

The parental upset discussed in the article happened at a school board meeting where officials informed parents discussions will be forthcoming on how materials outside the curriculum will be handled.

Before the dust could even settle, Rocklin Academy has made the news again.

This time it was because a teacher sent a first-grade student to the principal’s office this week for “misgendering” the transgender student involved in the kindergarten classroom incident.

It is this more recent incident that has allowed more information to come forward regarding the first.

As reported by The Washington Times:

An elite charter school in California has been rocked by scandal since the end of the last school year, when a kindergarten teacher read her class a pair of books advocating transgender ideology, and a male kindergartener was reintroduced to the class as a girl.

Now first-graders at Rocklin Academy Gateway risk a trip to the principal’s office if they refer to their transgender classmate by the wrong name or gender pronoun, said Karen England, executive director of the Capitol Resource Institute, a pro-family group based in Sacramento.

“There was a little girl who had been in class with the little boy all last year,” Ms. England said. “They’re in different classes now, but she saw him on the playground yesterday and called him by his name. The little girl was told ‘you can’t do that, his name is this name,’ and ‘you need to call him a “her.”’ Then she was called to the principal’s office.”

Ms. England said she has been in touch with the girl’s parents and described them as “outraged.” She said they met with school officials to discuss the matter Wednesday.

It’s not clear whether the girl was disciplined for the infraction. Rocklin Academy did not return a request for comment before press time.

Breitbart reported on the same incident stating:

A Californian first grader was sent to the principal’s office this week after allegedly “misgendering” a transgender student.

The incident reportedly took place at California’s Rocklin Academy, in the school playground, where the female student called her biologically male classmate “by his given name – apparently unaware that the boy now identified as a girl,” according to Fox News.

“This innocent little first grader sees a classmate, calls him by the name she knew him last year and the boy reports it to a teacher,” claimed Karen England, from the Capitol Resource Institute. “The little girl gets in trouble on the playground and then gets called out of class to the principal’s office.”

During her visit to the principal’s office, the child was reportedly “investigated” to determine “whether or not she had bullied the transgender child by calling him by his original name.”

“After about an hour it was determined the little girl made an honest mistake and she was not punished or reprimanded. But she was terribly traumatized by the incident,” Fox News claimed.

After the child returned home upset, her mother wrote a letter to the school.

Starbucks CEO implies it’s perfectly okay to commit violence against Whites, but not non-Whites

by Jayson Veley, Natural News:

Just days after the events that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, an outspoken leftist who has found himself surrounded by controversy on multiple occasions, took to Twitter and revealed to the entire world just how ignorant he really is. “I know we’re better than this,” the Starbucks Twitter page quoted Schultz as saying. “The bigotry, hatred, and senseless violence against people who are not white cannot stand.”

To be fair, Schultz’s statement is true – violence against minorities should not be tolerated by anyone, and we as a society should do everything in our power to discourage it. However, while the Starbucks CEO’s tweet may have been true in this sense, it was not complete. What he should have said was something along the lines of, “senseless violence against people of any race should never be tolerated and cannot stand.” It would have been a simple correction, but being the radical leftist that Howard Schultz is, he just couldn’t help but make his social media post racially divisive. (Related: Four solid reasons to avoid Starbucks.)

Several Twitter users did not hesitate to openly criticize Schultz, with some even accusing the Starbucks CEO of implying that white lives do not matter. “Violence against whites is okay. No one cares about whites, they are just trash. White lives DON’T matter. So says Howard Schultz,” wrote one Twitter user by the name of Captain Skywarn. Another wrote, “Should have said ‘against each other’ and left race out of it, you’re propagating what you’re preaching against.”

At one point, Starbucks replied to a Twitter user’s criticism and attempted to cover their tracks: “This is not about any specific group of people. We believe in kindness, respect and dignity for everyone.” But if it’s not about any specific group of people, then why did Howard Schultz specifically say, “Violence against people who are not white cannot stand?” It seems as though in the mind of Schultz, it really is about one specific group of people.

It is worth noting that the violence that occurred in Charlottesville, Virginia was not “evil whites attacking innocent blacks,” as the CEO of Starbucks apparently wants his followers to believe. Indeed, several pictures taken of the event depict blacks engaged in acts of violence, wearing masks and roaming the streets with weapons. One picture even shows a black man using a spray can as a flamethrower on a group of white protesters, though to be fair, it looks as though the man was only trying to torch the confederate flag that was being intentionally waved in his general direction.

The point is that its not only whites that are demonstrating bigotry and intolerance towards people with different skin color; blacks are guilty of the same thing. That is why the overarching message from everyone, regardless of political affiliation, should be a message of nonviolence and acceptance of all races. It’s a shame that Howard Schultz’s message on Twitter conveyed the exact opposite of that.

The progressive left seems to have developed a pattern of masking their race-baiting tactics with the constant perpetuation of victimization. They claim that they want us all to come together and unite, but in doing so, usually drive a wedge between black Americans and white Americans, thus dividing us even more.

In May of 2016, for example, Barack Obama delivered the commencement speech at the historically black Howard University, in which he blasted the “racist and discriminatory” judicial system. “We can’t just lock up a low-level dealer without asking why this boy, barely out of childhood, felt he had no other options,” Obama argued before going on to say that many minorities who were “just as smart and just as talented as we were” got “ground down by structures that are unfair and unjust.”

Grant Williams: “History Is About To Repeat Itself Again… And It Might Get Ugly”

from ZeroHedge:

Real Vision’s Grant Williams believes that the 76 million retiring Baby Boomers will trigger a major pension crisis.

“With that potentially bad situation we could face,” the seasoned asset manager and co-founder of Real Vision TV said in a recent extended Metal Masters interview (full interview below), “holding physical metal, somewhere safe, somewhere outside the banking system, is just a sensible precaution to take.”

His outlook has changed drastically since he started his first job trading Japanese markets in 1986: “What I walked into at that time was one of the greatest bull market bubbles the world had ever seen, in the Japanese equity market and real estate market.” During this heyday, precious metals weren’t on his radar at all—until a year later, when he witnessed his first stock market crash and started asking some inconvenient questions.

“I’ve always been a fan of history,” says Williams, who also writes the wildly popular macroeconomic newsletter, Things That Make You Go Hmmm… “So I read financial history and I just kept reading. And it was clear to me that at this point in time, I needed to buy some gold.”

Until then, the gold price didn’t mean much to him, except as an indicator of other things, so he considers the crashes he witnessed in his career wake-up calls and blessings in disguise.

The 1987 crash, he says, was more like “a bad day at the office; it came and went so fast… The bounce-back was quick, but it was a real shock to the system that that could happen.” When the dotcom bubble burst, he was well prepared. “I recognized the madness for what it was much sooner… and so that taught me that markets can reverse and just go down.”

He remembers reading a story about a boy from Chicago who studied in Weimar Germany, and his parents sent him tuition and rent money every month. At some point, “the Reichsmark was going through the roof—four billion to one, compared to one to one a few months earlier—and this kid, with his one hundred dollars that his parents sent him… ended up buying the entire street he lived on, all the houses, and became a landlord.”

Over the years, his study of monetary history and current economic events has convinced him that it would be prudent to hold some gold as crisis insurance. “I remember I wanted just to buy an ounce of gold… and I very consciously took cash to pay for this thing. I handed over $333 in paper, and [the dealer] gave me this coin.” The experience of holding physical gold in your hand, he says, answers a lot of questions. “People get stuck in this trap of ‘Why does it have value?’ These are the wrong questions to ask, because you’re driving yourself mad. It does. Pure and simple.”

Williams says gold is still undervalued: “At heart, I’m a value investor, and I think gold offers incredible value now.”

He says he’s followed the gold market ever since that pivotal day and recommends that everyone should have at least some allocation to precious metals: “I think if you don’t own some gold in your portfolio now, you either don’t understand history, or you don’t want to understand history.”
