US Department of Defense Prepares for War with China

According to an article in the {Washington Post} on March 29, a memo written by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has called for the United States to prepare to fight a war against China, with an invasion of Taiwan as the “exclusive animating scenario that must be prioritized.”   The memo identifies the Trump administration’s primary strategic concern as a potential invasion of Taiwan by the armed forces of the People’s Republic of China, which it says can be deterred by a readiness to fight a war.  Such “readiness” can be demonstrated by a military buildup in the region and closer coordination with regional allies.  As the memo was circulating, Hegseth travelled to the Philippines and Japan, to coordinate an overall reorientation of U.S. forces with allies in the Indo-Pacific region.

China: Kremlin Drone Attack Crossed a ‘Red Line’ in Ukraine War

The Chinese Global Times government newspaper described the alleged drone attack on the Kremlin early Wednesday morning as the crossing of a “red line” in the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine: the targeting of heads of state.

Videos surfaced on Wednesday of unidentified objects in the airspace above the Kremlin in Moscow on Wednesday, apparently attempting to target the Russian capital. Russian officials announced shortly thereafter that the skyward objects civilians observed were armed drones deployed in an attempt, they claimed, to assassinate Vladimir Putin. The Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry vowed “imminent and inevitable punishment” for the culprits once an investigation identifies them and, without directly blaming Ukraine, claimed the drone incident was proof of the necessity of Russia’s ongoing invasion of the country.

TEHRAN (Sputnik) – The Iranian parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has approved a bill that will ban US and Israeli vessels from sailing through the crucial waterway, Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported on Sunday.
The bill, which reportedly aims to ensure the security and sustainable development of the Strait of Hormuz, will deny access to the strait to countries that are hostile to Iran. Foreign vessels will also be prohibited from transporting any type of Israel-affiliated cargo, whether military or civilian, or face fines of up to 20% of the cargo’s value.

In a rare dangerous incident and close-call, European media reports have described that the crew of a Russian ship ‘fired’ upon a Germany army helicopter which was monitoring the vessel’s movements in the Baltic Sea.

“German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock announced increased surveillance in the Baltic Sea after a Russian ship fired at a Bundeswehr helicopter during a mission,” EuroNews writes.

The Bundeswehr helicopter was confirmed to have been on a reconnaissance mission at an unclear date and time, but the Russian ship – described in The Daily Mail as a warship – fired signaling ammunition in an apparent effort to warn the aircraft off.

We are also being told that a peace deal with Iran “is being finalized” or is “just days away”, and yet no deal ever materializes. I feel like I am living in a twisted version of “Groundhog Day” where the exact same things just keep repeating in the Middle East day after day. There is hopeful talk of peace in the morning, but by the evening both sides are blasting one another again. What is the point of keeping up this charade at this point? We obviously don’t have a “ceasefire” with Iran, and it has become exceedingly clear that no peace deal is imminent.
