Washington Reaches New Heights of Insanity with the “Kremlin Report”

by Paul Craig Roberts, Paul Craig Roberts:

In an act of insane escalation of provocations against Russia, Washington has produced a list of 210 top Russian government officials and important business executives who are “gangsters,” “members of Putin’s gang,” “threats,” “people deserving to be sanctioned,” or however the Western presstitutes care to explain the list. The absurd list includes the Prime Minister of Russia, the Foreign Minister, the Defense Minister, and executives of Gazprom, Rosneft, and Bank Rossiya. In other words, the suggestion is that the entirety of Russian political and business leadership is corrupt.

The Russians do not seem to understand the purpose of the list. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the government sees the list as an attempt to interfere in the Russian presidential election. There is no doubt that Washington would like to reduce Putin’s public support so that Washington can use the Western-funded NGOs operating in Russia to present American stooges as Russia’s true voices. However, it is unlikely that the Russian people are stupid enough to fall for such a trick.

Washington’s list has three purposes:

1) To undercut Russian diplomacy by presenting the top echelons of Russia as gangsters.
2) To present Russia as a military threat as per the ridiculous announcement by British defense minister Gavin Williamson on January 26 that Russia intends to rip British “infrastructure apart, actually cause thousands and thousands and thousands of deaths,” and create “total chaos within the country.”
3) To shift American and European attention away from the coming release of the House Intelligence Committee’s report that proves Russiagate is a conspiracy between the FBI, the Obama Department of Justice and the Democratic National Committee against President Trump. Washington’s Russian list will give the presstitutes something else to talk about instead of the act of treason committed against the President of the United States. Expect to hear nothing from the presstitutes except that the House Intelligence Committee report is only a political effort to shield Trump from accountability.

There is likely a fourth reason for the list. Israel wants Washington’s pressure on Russia, because Russia has so far prevented Israel’s use of the US military to create the same chaos in Syria and Iran as has been created in Iraq and Libya. Israel wants Syria and Iran destabilized because they support Hezbollah, which prevents Israel from occupying the water resources of southern Lebanon. The Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act, which requires the list, passed the House and Senate by a vote of 517-5. Normally, such unanimous foreign policy votes are associated with demands from the Israel Lobby.

The Russian government and the Russian people need to understand that Washington considers Russia to be a threat because Russia is not under Washington’s thumb. The Zionist neoconservatives control US foreign policy. Their ideology is world hegemony. They do not use diplomacy. They rely on disinformation, threats, and violence. Therefore, there is no American diplomacy with which Putin and Lavrov can engage.

Putin, being a responsible political leader of a great power, does not respond to provocation with provocation. He ignores the insults and continues to wait for the West to come to its senses. But what if the West does not come to its senses?

For the West to come to its senses requires the complete overthrow of the Zionist neoconservatives and/or the breakup of NATO. The overthrow of the neoconservatives would require a rival foreign policy voice, and that voice is very weak as it is shut off from the media, the think tanks, and the universities. The breakup of NATO would require European political figures to give up their Washington subsidies and the career advancement that Washington provides.

As I write the Atlantic Council is holding a members and press call in for a discussion with Atlantic Council members Amb. Daniel Fried and Anders Aslund. The Atlantic Council is a neoconservative propaganda agency. The purpose of the “discussion” is to further undermine US-Russian relations.

PEPE ESCOBAR: War on Iran & Calling America’s Bluff

by Pepe Escobar, Consortium News:

The Trump administration once again has graphically demonstrated that in the young, turbulent 21st century, “international law” and “national sovereignty” already belong to the Realm of the Walking Dead.

As if a deluge of sanctions against a great deal of the planet was not enough, the latest “offer you can’t refuse” conveyed by a gangster posing as diplomat, Consul Minimus Mike Pompeo, now essentially orders the whole planet to submit to the one and only arbiter of world trade: Washington.

First the Trump administration unilaterally smashed a multinational, UN-endorsed agreement, the JCPOA, or Iran nuclear deal. Now the waivers that magnanimously allowed eight nations to import oil from Iran without incurring imperial wrath in the form of sanctions will expire on May 2 and won’t be renewed.

Russia’s Latest Hypersonic Weapon Could Travel from Moscow to DC in 6 Minutes

by Andrew West, Freedom OutPost:

Fears of a new Cold War between the US and Russia have been renewed as of late, and things are taking a turn toward the terrifying just after Christmas.

Russia’s attempts to infiltrate and meddle in the 2016 US election will surely be repeated in 2020, marking a new plateau in the eastern superpower’s brazenness in the fields of espionage and anti-diplomacy.

Now it appears as though this same high-level effort is being employed in the Kremlin’s military efforts, with even more striking results.

Why Military Action Against Syria Is A Really Bad Idea

by Michael Snyder, The Economic Collapse Blog:

The United States is on the verge of going to war, and we need to do all that we can to stop that from happening. Everywhere I go in Idaho’s first congressional district, people are telling me that they do not want to see military action against Syria. The Russians have already indicated that they plan to strike back if their forces are threatened, and many of the voters that I am talking to are extremely concerned about what could happen once U.S. and Russian forces begin exchanging fire. And what makes the rush to war all the more alarming is that we don’t even have all the facts yet. There is absolutely no reason to rush into a war, and that is why our founders gave the power to declare war to Congress. They wanted debate and deliberation before a decision was made to go to war, and without a doubt launching missiles at Syria would be an act of war. As a candidate for Congress in Idaho’s first congressional district, I am completely and totally against a military strike, and I am finding that voters in this district are overwhelming with me on this. America cannot be the police of the world, and when I go to Washington I will do all that I can to keep us out of unnecessary wars.

Big Win in Syria: US Avoids Headache, Turkey Secures its Border, Russia Brokers Peace

from Russia Insider:

What is happening in Syria, following yet another Russia-brokered deal, is a massive geopolitical game-changer. I’ve tried to summarize it in a single paragraph this way:

“It’s a quadruple win. The U.S. performs a face saving withdrawal, which Trump can sell as avoiding a conflict with NATO ally Turkey. Turkey has the guarantee – by the Russians – that the Syrian Army will be in control of the Turkish-Syrian border. Russia prevents a war escalation and keeps the Russia-Iran-Turkey peace process alive.  And Syria will eventually regain control of the entire northeast.”

Uh Oh! General Mattis Admits No Evidence Of Assad Using Poison Gas On His Own People

by Tim Brown, Freedom Outpost:

As Rep. Thomas Massie said when it all went down, “The first casualty in war is the truth.”

I do have to say, I’m shocked that this would actually be acknowledged, but not at all surprised by the truth since we have been those pointing out that both the Obama administration and the Trump administration were lying to us about Assad using Sarin gas on his own people in Syria.

Newsweek has the story:

Lost in the hyper-politicized hullabaloo surrounding the Nunes Memorandum and the Steele Dossier was the striking statement by Secretary of Defense James Mattis that the U.S. has “no evidence” that the Syrian government used the banned nerve agent Sarin against its own people.

This assertion flies in the face of the White House (NSC) Memorandum which was rapidly produced and declassified to justify an American Tomahawk missile strike against the Shayrat airbase in Syria.

Mattis offered no temporal qualifications, which means that both the 2017 event in Khan Sheikhoun and the 2013 tragedy in Ghouta are unsolved cases in the eyes of the Defense Department and Defense Intelligence Agency.

Mattis went on to acknowledge that “aid groups and others” had provided evidence and reports but stopped short of naming President Assad as the culprit.

There were casualties from organophosphate poisoning in both cases; that much is certain. But America has accused Assad of direct responsibility for Sarin attacks and even blamed Russia for culpability in the Khan Sheikhoun tragedy.

Now its own military boss has said on the record that we have no evidence to support this conclusion. In so doing, Mattis tacitly impugned the interventionists who were responsible for pushing the “Assad is guilty” narrative twice without sufficient supporting evidence, at least in the eyes of the Pentagon.

This dissonance between the White House and the Department of Defense is especially troubling when viewed against the chorus of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) experts who have been questioning the (Obama and Trump) White House narratives concerning chemical weapons in Syria since practically the moment these “Assad-ordered events” occurred.

OK, so let’s just chalk it all up to the military industrial complex and the mainstream media feeding us the bull that we needed to be involved in Syria in the first place.  It’s sort of like that line that came out of the Bush administration about “WMD’s in Iraq,” right?

In any case, Zero Hedge points out that the attacks could only have three originators.

  • The Syrian government
  • The fighters of whichever group, like Al-Nusra or ISIS who elected to use this to frame the Syrian government, and;
  • The US, in an attempt to frame the Assad regime.

Tyler Durden writes:

The Americans were not invited to help Assad, so their presence in Syria is an inconvenient truth – Syria cannot expel them, but they were never wanted, and even by the American people, involvement in yet another Middle Eastern nation is not high on the “things I want my country to do” list for most Americans.

The loser in this situation is the United States, because of the mishandling of this conflict.  While most of the conflict and the American action in it took place during the Obama era, it is probably the case that if the USA simply gathered all its troops and equipment and retreated to Israel or the Mediterranean Sea, or just plain left, the result might be a great deal worse for the Russian and Syrian national forces already there.

The problem here is that there may well be a serious intelligence breach or failure that created or allowed the decision to launch that Tomahawk strike. Russia Today also ran the Mattis piece, because to do so suits the Russian narrative that there is no way Bashar Assad would use gas on his own people. Indeed, it does not make rational sense to a Westerner how a dictator retains power when his country is already a war zone and watched by world powers.  To do a mass killing of one’s own citizens under such a watchful eye seems a highly absurd course for any leader to take.

The further problem is the reality of conditions on the ground.  As this report points outthe Americans may be in a situation where foolish decisions by previous administrations and maybe even this one, have created a situation where they cannot leave.

Well, I”m not convinced of that.  We got involved by training, funding and arming Islamic jihadis under the Obama administration.  We continually tried to stick our nose into Syria where it didn’t belong.

Then, President Donald Trump, unconstitutionally attacked Syria with a plethora of missiles due to a lie his own Defense Department couldn’t not even prove to support the claims.

RFK JR: THE CDC IS A VACCINE COMPANY

by Joseph P. Farrell, Giza Death Star:

This story is so important that, when I saw it and read it after Mr. G.F. passed it along to me, I knew I had to blog about it. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., son of the murdered Senator from New York, has, as most readers here are aware, raised concerns about the safety of vaccines. Indeed, at one point it was rumored that President Trump was thinking about appointing him to some position to oversee a study of vaccines. (See https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-to-meet-with-proponent-of-debunked-tie-between-vaccines-and-autism/2017/01/10/4a5d03c0-d752-11e6-9f9f-5cdb4b7f8dd7_story.html?noredirect=on). Kennedy has continued to be outspoken on the subject, and this article on his most recent claim is well worth your consideration, especially if you’re concerned about vaccine safety and good old-fashioned “conflicts of interest”:

WW3: Russia Vows It ‘WILL ACT’ If Ukraine Or Georgia Join NATO

by Mac Slavo, SHTF Plan:

Russia has vowed that they “will act” should Ukraine or Georgia join NATO. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu voiced his concern over what he described as the “militarization of the European continent,” by promising action instead of empty rhetoric.

This statement by Shoigu appears to be a sign of the country’s unease in the wake of President Donald Trump’s decision to pull out the United States out of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF). Speaking during a meeting with Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos, Shoigu said: “We are following with alarm NATO’s policy aimed at the active militarization of the European continent. We see efforts being made to involve more and more NATO member countries, I mean the Balkans first of all.”

I Know Which Country the U.S. Will Invade Next

by Lee Camp, The Duran:

Authored by Lee Camp via Truthdig.com:

By the end of this column, it will be clear which country the United States will invade and topple next. Or failing that, it will be clear which country our military-intelligence-industrial complex will be aching to invade next.

We all want to know why America does what it does. And I don’t mean why Americans do what we do. I think that question still will be pondered eons from now by a future professor showing his students a video mind-meld of present-day UFC fighters booting each other in the head while thrilled onlookers cheer (not for either of the fighters but rather for more booting in the head).

Russia Says 13 Drones Used In Attack On Its Air Base, Naval Facility In Syria

from Radio Free Europe:

Russia says 13 armed drones have recently been used to attack its air base and its naval facility in western Syria.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on January 8 that there were no casualties or damage as a result of the attacks on the Hmeimim air base and Tartus naval facility.

Russian forces were able to overpower radio signals for some of the drones and gain control of them during the attacks overnight on January 5-6, a statement said.

Other drones were destroyed with short-range Pantsir-S1 antiaircraft missile systems, it also said, adding that the unmanned aerial vehicles were carrying foreign, professionally manufactured explosives.

“Engineering solutions used by the terrorists in the attack…could have been obtained only from a country possessing high-tech capabilities for providing satellite navigation and remote control,” it added, without naming any country.

A monitoring group, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said the attacks were carried out by an Islamist rebel faction that operates in Latakia Province, where the Hmeimim base is located, according to the Associated Press news agency.

Russia has given President Bashar al-Assad’s government crucial support throughout Syria’s civil war and has long been at odds with U.S. support of certain rebel groups in the Syrian civil war.

The conflict has killed hundreds of thousands of people and driven millions from their homes since it began with a crackdown on pro-democracy protests in 2011.

Also on January 8, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that air strikes by Russian warplanes and shelling attacks by Syrian government forces on rebel-held parts of Idlib Province, northeast of Latakia, enabled the regime forces to advance into 14 villages.

At least 21 people were killed in the aerial bombardment and shelling since January 7, the observatory said.

Idlib is the only province in Syria to be almost entirely controlled by antigovernment forces that are dominated by a coalition of Islamist factions called Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.

The provincial capital, also called Idlib, was late on January 7 the scene of a deadly blast that hit the headquarters of the militant faction Ajnad al-Qawqaz. Many of its fighters are from the Caucasus and Russia.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the bombing that claimed at least 25 lives.

More than 40 Russian military personnel died in Syria since Moscow launched a campaign of air strikes in September 2015, in many cases using Hmeimim as a base.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said last week that two Russian service personnel were killed in a mortar attack on Hmeimim on New Year’s Eve.

Biden Threatens Putin: Another Sad Chapter in U.S. Diplomacy

from 21st Century Wire:

A war of words has broken out between U.S. President Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

A hapless Biden was baited into a Russia-bashing session during an interview with ABC host George Stephanopoulos when he asked the President whether he thought the Russian president was a “killer,” Biden replied, “I do,” and went on to threaten retaliation for alleged ‘meddling’ in the 2020 US Election, warning Putin, “The price he’s going to pay, you’ll see shortly.”

Putin responded to Biden’s meandering television tirade, saying,“It takes one to know one.”

The Taliban ‘Peace Deal’ Is Very Vague, the US Wants a Permanent Presence in Afghanistan

from Russia Insider:
