Rod Wheeler Suit Riddled With Contradictory Information

0

by Elizabeth Vos, Disobedient Media:

Disobedient Media previously reported that Rod Wheeler had filed a defamation suit against Fox News. Wheeler is a retired Washington homicide detective and Fox News contributor hired as a private investigator by the Rich family regarding the still-unsolved murder of Seth Rich. The suit centers on a Fox story which was eventually retracted, which Wheeler claimed misquoted him regarding the Seth Rich case. Disobedient Media’s previous coverage of the suit discussed the case being relatively weak.  If misquotation or false quotation were proven to have occurred, it would still be unlikely to legally prove that defamation had occurred.

Many of the claims made in Wheeler’s suit have been brought into serious question. On the day the suit was filed, Big League Politics investigative journalist Cassandra Fairbanks released two audio tapes; one with legendary, pulitzer-prize winning journalist Seymour Hersh referencing Seth Rich as the source of Wikileaks’ DNC email publication. The other audio clip contained a recorded conversation where Wheeler appeared to support the information attributed to him in the initial Fox story.

Further questions regarding Wheeler’s suit were raised after his appearance on MSNBC where he contradicted significant elements of the defamation suit against Fox. During the interview, Wheeler stated that he did not know for a fact if President Trump knew about the Fox story, which fundamentally contradicts Wheeler’s previous allegations that the Trump administration had participated in orchestrating  Fox’s story.

Wheeler also told MSNBC that the DNC was involved in this investigation with the DC police department. He stated that: “During my investigation when I first reached out to the police department, Donna Brazille was the one that contacted the Rich family wanting know why I was snooping around. Why would Donna Brazille even be involved in this situation if this is just a street murder?” This is extremely important, as it supports the statements quoted in the Fox story, and contradicts Wheeler’s legal claim that Fox misquoted him, which even if true would be unlikely to qualify legally as defamation. Fox has also strenuously denied the race discrimination claim made in the suit.

Adding to controversy surrounding the case, Consortium News reported that pulitzer-prize winning journalist Seymour Hersh confirmed that audio files released by Cassandra Fairbanks were legitimate. Hersh told Consortium that the tape in question was “made without his permission” when he quoted an unnamed government source who stated Seth Rich had offered the DNC emails to WikiLeaks in exchange for money.

Significantly, the recording of Hersh was made by Ed Butowsky, a wealthy Republican donor and Trump supporter. This is important because it is Butowsky who was named in Wheeler’s suit as a coordinator of the now-retracted Fox story regarding Rich. Butowsky represents the crux of alleged Trump administration knowledge of the story, which legacy media has widely circulated. However, even Wheeler contradicted these claims when he told MSNBC that he did not know whether President Trump was aware of the story. This would be important in the Wheeler suit, and for its implications for the already discredited Trump-Russia narrative and possibly for Seth Rich’s murder.

That such a shaky suit would be widely heralded by establishment press as evidence that the Seth Rich case is a figment of fevered conspiracy theory imagination deserves serious skepticism from the public. The mainstream media enthusiasm for a story which is based on a lawsuit that appears to be contradicted so clearly by the facts, indicates the degree to which issues raised by the case may threaten establishment interests, as Wheeler himself indicated during his MSNBC interview. It is deeply concerning that legacy media figures, some of whom appear supportive of Media Matters, would use this legally shaky suit to discredit Ed Butowsky personally and to create a scandal to replace  the thoroughly discredited Russian hacking narrative.

It appears on this author’s inspection that Ed Butowsky enjoys a good reputation and has had no complaints made against him in the past.

12 Lifesaving Canning Rules

0

by Ken Jorgustin, Modern Survival Blog:

When it’s that time of year for canning your garden bounty, or when canning any time of the year, before you dust off your canner and heat the stove, first take a look at these 12 lifesaving canning rules.

Having just canned 18 pints of beans, time for a refresher:

If done properly, canning is entirely safe; however certain precautions should be taken.

Generally, I will say that the most important thing to remember (especially for newbies) is to follow the instructions of a modern canning recipe.

Choose a reliable source for home canning recipes because they are tested, proven, and designed to provide a wide margin of safety.

Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving

USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning

SAFETY RULES OF CANNING

1. Don’t use jars larger than a quart. Home canning technology cannot guarantee that larger quantities will be sufficiently heated through for enough time. Rather, the food on the outside will overcook, while that on the inside won’t get hot enough for food safety.

2. A water-bath canner may only be used for high acid foods such as tomatoes, fruits, rhubarb, sauerkraut, pickles, and jams/jellies. A pressure canner MUST be used for low acid foods including vegetables, meats, and stews.

3. Use only modern canning recipes from reliable sources (especially when first learning canning as a beginner).

4. Never reuse jar lids. Used lids aren’t reliable for sealing correctly. If a screw-on band is rusty or bent, it won’t work right and should be discarded and replaced. That said, you might consider purpose-designed reusable Tattler lids.

5. Don’t use antique or ‘French’ -type canning jars. They aren’t as safe as the modern, regular ‘Ball, Kerr’ type.

6. Check the jar rims carefully every year by running your finger over the top of the rim and checking for nicks. Even the tiniest nick makes the jar unusable for canning. A nicked jar rim won’t seal reliably.

7. Raw pack is not safe for certain foods: beets, all kinds of greens (spinach, etc.), white potatoes, squash, okra, a tomato/okra combination, and stewed tomatoes.

8. You must allow the correct amount of space (head-space) between your food, together with the liquid that covers it, and the jar lid (follow the recipe instructions).

9. Water Bath Method: Do not begin counting the processing time until after the water in the canner comes to a rolling boil

10. Pressure Canner: Do not begin counting the processing time until after steam has vented for 10 minutes AND until the pressure gauge has risen to the recommended pressure after placing the weight on the vent pipe.

11. Process the full recommended time (and at the recommended pressure if using pressure canner).

12. If a jar did not seal, discard the lid, check to see if the jar rim is chipped (discard jar), check for food residue on the rim (clean), put on a new lid, and reprocess. Or consume the food and/or put in the refrigerator as you would any other leftover food for later consumption.

Sick. CNN’s Ana Navarro Defends Antifa Terrorists Hurling Bricks, Using Flame Throwers on Protesters (Video)

0

by Jim Hoft, The Gateway Pundit:

Trump-hater Ana Navarro from CNN was in rare form on Saturday after the violent protests, rioting and deadly car attack in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Ana Navarro defended the violent far left antifa protesters who were hurling bricks and paint bombs and using blowtorches protesters.

Navarro defended this far left violence.

Ana Navarro: No, no, no, no. You can’t say this is both sides of violence. What we saw was some white supremacists and then what we saw was some brave people risking their lives and putting themselves in between white supremacists and what they were doing.

You just cannot trust CNN to report the truth anymore.

Gov. McAuliffe in Charlottesville ‘No Place in America’ for Alt-Right, Refuses to Condemn AntiFa

by Raheem Kassam, Breitbart:

Charlottesville, VA — The usually busy streets of the historic downtown of Charlottesville saw its tourists and locals substituted with heavily armed police and protesters this afternoon, following altercations which lasted from Friday night through to Saturday morning.

Originally billed as a protest in favour of free speech — alongside the disdain over the removal of Confederate statues in the city — the “alt-right” rally found itself transformed into a torch-wielding, Nazi-flag waving dereliction of American values — at least considering the publicity afforded to the event, and the behaviour of some of the rally’s attendees.

In brief, what transpired amounted to a disgusting and unwelcome throwback to segregationist ideas and rhetoric at a time when patriotic conservatism is gaining ground. While many media minutes and deliberations will be afforded to the fascistic right, almost none will be dedicated to the fascistic left.

Gun control supporter Governor Terry McAuliffe was whisked into a downtown building under massively armed police protection in the middle of the afternoon, via a small alleyway off Main Street. One female witness to the scene shouted, “Thank you for showing up!”

On Main Street, after the initial violence, hard leftists sang songs, re-purposing Lady Gaga’s hit song “Paparazzi” with the words “pop a Nazi”. One man told me he was told it was the “wrong day to be white in this town,” while the abandoned stores and bars sported signs that read: “We kindly ask to respect our policy to not bring weapons inside our restaurant or on our patio”.

In the mid afternoon — after protesters were run over by a car, leaving one dead — stick-wielding left-wing activists roamed the streets aimlessly in groups of four or five. One such group screamed: “F**k Donald Trump,” as a girl — clearly unrelated to either side — walked past them.

A few hours later, McAuliffe took the opportunity to address the nation from the stage of the Albemarle County office building, flanked by local officials, as well as a man in a t-shirt which read “Menace II Supremacy”.

McAuliffe flipped back and forth between urging for calm and unity, and demanding division while insisting pro-Confederate statue protesters were persona non grata in his Commonwealth.

He lauded presidents Jefferson and Washington, but ran entirely contrary to their commitments to free speech by declaring of protesters: “There is no place for you in America”.

Insisting “we were here to bring people together and unify folks”, he added “We are a nation of immigrants… unless you’re native American”.

“Please go home and never come back,” he said to Unite the Right protesters, adding: “Take your hatred and take your bigotry”.

Instead of a call for dialogue, or even trying to explain what would be a totally reasonable and easily-made argument against flying Nazi flags or torch-lit demonstrations, he chose to further drive a wedge, as did those who flanked him on stage.

“They’re going to be in the trash heap of history,” said the Charlottesville mayor, while police chief Al Thomas defended the police strategy on the day. Despite having had weeks of notice, as well granting a protest permit to alt-right protesters, there were three fatalities and many injured. In an oddly nativist tone, he declared “outsiders do not tell our story”.

The media tone is also evidently one-sided. While no one — including this website — would take up the cause of defending the actions of the alt right or Nazi flag wavers, it is important to note how quickly many have chosen to lump the blame at the doorstep of President Donald Trump.

CNN issued a push notification to app users’ mobile devices around 8:30pm local time stating: “President Trump fails to condemn the alt-right and white supremacists in his statement about violence in Charlottesville, Virginia”.

No such accusations were hurled by the establishment media at Democrat leaders when a Bernie Sanders supporter shot at Republican congressmen in June.

North Korea On Standby To Launch At Mainland US

0

by Mac Slavo, SHTFPlan:

According to state run propaganda media, North Korea is on standby to launch a missile at the mainland United States.  Responding to President Donald Trump’s recent warnings to the rogue regime in this manner has just flung tensions to heights never seen – not even during the Cold War.

North Korea took its turn Saturday to raise tensions in the back-and-forth escalation toward war with President Trump and the United States.  The state-run newspaper said that North Korean dictator Kim Jung Un’s revolutionary army is “capable of fighting any war the U.S. wants.”  The same newspaper also noted that the Paektusan army is now “on the standby to launch fire into its mainland, waiting for an order of final attack.” Unfortunately, it is possible that we will witness World War 3 and these heightened tensions between the U.S. and North Korea could be the catalyst.

The editorial also stated that the United States “finds itself in an ever worsening dilemma, being thrown into the grip of extreme security unrest by the DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea). This is tragi-comedy of its own making. … If the Trump administration does not want the American empire to meet its tragic doom in its tenure, they had better talk and act properly.”  Pretty big talk for a small country run by a chubby dictator. And unfortunately, it won’t help stop the progression toward war; it was simply yet another provocation.

The editorial appears to be in response to a series of comments made by President Trump in recent days, most recently Friday that the United States is “locked and loaded.”  The president’s comments are in response to Kim threatening a missile attack on U.S. territory of Guam.  So far, the back and forth tensions have been heightened by continued military drills between the U.S. and South Korea, and North Korea’s insistence on obtaining a nuclear weapon that can strike the mainland United States.  These wars of words will do nothing to calm the nerves of innocents caught in the crossfire of nuclear war.

Trump continues to pursue a diplomatic solution to North Korea’s purported development of a nuclear warhead that could reach the United States and other countries on an intercontinental ballistic missile. The White House says Trump had a phone conversation Friday with Chinese President Xi Jinping in which the leaders reiterated their commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. The president also saluted Xi for China’s recent United Nations vote to impose tougher sanctions on North Korea, in response the country’s escalating pursuit of nuclear weapons, according to the White House.

Wars and Rumors of Wars: Fire and Fury Signifying Nothing?

0

by David Haggith, The Great Recession Blog:

August is a sultry month for stocks as markets thin out during the dog days of summer. Everyone leaves investing for a break from the heat. Statistically, August is the worst month for overall stock performance, while September delivers more of whatever August sends its way or brings its own dark surprises. After that, October loves a surprise and is the worst for having the most major crashes.

As markets now slide into their toughest time of the year, they also also face a major war of words that may quickly become more than words. The days of market calm appear now to have ended. $500 billion worth of supposed US market “value” just cascaded into oblivion last week. (Over a trillion worldwide. Of course, it could reappear tomorrow.)

Markets crawling under the clouds of war

One place where August is living up to its reputation is in volatility. August is usually the most volatile month of the year.

The US stock market’s volatility index (VIX) became eerily placid for many weeks this summer, but this past week the VIX rose 70{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528}. Of course 70{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} from a position so small and calm is not a lot, but it’s an awakening. And there appear to be many people and institutions now awakening.

PIMCO began loading up on puts to hedge against a market plunge while building up a strong cash position, suspecting the highly unusual calm is the kind that comes before a big storm. PIMCO’s chief investment officer said that Pimco “has been taking profits [a nice way to say selling off its stock holdings] in high-valued corporate credits and built cash balances for when better opportunities arise.” That’s also a cautious way of saying,

“We’re getting liquidity higher,” Ivascyn told Reuters in a phone interview. “If we see actual military altercation, markets can go a lot lower. And at the same time, volatility has been so low for so long that it doesn’t take much for markets to get worked up.”

The PIMCO CIO said that although the market has yet to panic, “you will certainly see panic if all of this turns into a sustained military encounter.” (Zero Hedge)

So, not everyone in high places sees the market’s languor as good. Now, under the clouds of war with North Korea, the calm is giving way.

Trade war with China on horizon

Not all wars that can damage an economy or a stock market involve weapons of mass destruction. While Trump and Kim Jong-Un are going nuclear with their rhetoric as well as their actual war footing (“Military solutions are now firmly in place … our nuclear arsenal … now far stronger and more powerful than ever before,” Trump tweeted), Trump has also declared trade war on China, saying such a war will be launched in a week.

As if there weren’t enough geopolitical and social stress points in the world to fill a lifetime of “sleepy, vacationy” Augusts, late on Friday night President Trump spoke to Chinese President Xi Jinping and told him that he’s preparing to order an investigation into Chinese trade practices next week, according to NBC. Politico confirms that Trump is ready to launch a new trade crackdown on China next week…. It is also an escalation which most analysts agree will launch a trade war between Washington and Beijing…. Should Trump follow through, the move will lay the groundwork for Trump to impose tariffs against Chinese imports, which will mark a significant escalation in his efforts to reshape the trade relationship between the world’s two largest economies. In other words, even if there is now conventional war announced with either North Korea or Venezuela, Trump’s next step is to launch a trade war against China. (Zero Hedge)

The near inevitability of both wars

Both wars may be next to inevitable and were certainly not unforeseeable (black swans) when I said the economy would crash this summer. They are those dark clouds among a whole horizon of storm clouds that I’ve been pointing out — the clouds that I’ve been saying have been growing closer to us and would be here by summer, making a summer economic storm almost inevitable, too.

The US government under Obama refused to take military actions against North Korea while it was becoming a nuclear power, so now North Korea is a nuclear power. Surprise! Not really. Who couldn’t see this coming for more than a decade? The now global known reality forces the US to a worse conundrum — wage a war with an unstable nuclear nation run by a lunatic or let an unstable nuclear power with an insane leader achieve a great deal more nuclear capability. (Some might wonder which nation I’m speaking of.) That’s what inaction on tough problems for too long brings you — worse problems. The US kicked the can down the road when there was no real threat of nuclear retaliation; now there is a clear and credible threat of nuclear retaliation.

The same is true with Chinese trade. The US government under Obama turned a blind eye to Chinese trade practices that fly in the face of truly “fair trade,” again kicking the can down the road for years, rather than confronting the problem head on. So, now the US faces the risk of starting a trade war at a time when it may be starting a military war and at a time when it needs China to remain neutral with respect to North Korea if there is a war or to be an ally in getting North Korea to change (an unlikely prospect). Congress and Obama kicked the can down the road with respect to needed economic reforms, Korean nuclear armament, and unfair Chinese trade practices, always preferring to “talk about it,” and each problem has only become far harder to solve.

That, of course, is what I claimed would happen when I started writing The Great Recession Blog: all of the government’s weak-kneed, temporary solutions would push the nation’s economic problems ahead, making them much harder to face in the future. That future is here.

President Trump, Secretary of State Tillerson and Defense Secretary Mattis have all made it clear that a nuclear-armed North Korea with ICBMs that can hit the United States will not be allowed.

If North Korea persists, this means war with the U.S. There’s only one problem: North Korea thinks we’re bluffing.

North Korea believes that the U.S. is bluffing based in part on the prior failures of the U.S. to back up “red line” declarations in Syria over its alleged use of chemical weapons. Their belief is also based on the horrendous damage that would be inflicted on South Korea.

China also believes the U.S. is bluffing. (–Jim Rickards in The Daily Reckoning)

Gerald Celente on Markets: “When Interest Rates Go Up, This Thing Goes Down”

by Mike Gleason, Money Metals:

Welcome to this week’s Market Wrap Podcast, I’m Mike Gleason.

Coming up the one and only Gerald Celente of the Trends Journal and one of the top trends forecaster in the world joins me for an explosive interview on the dollar, the growing tensions with North Korea and a wildcard that he sees driving a big run in gold. You will not want to miss an incredible interview with Gerald Celente, coming up after this week’s market update.

Well, the invincible U.S. stock market finally came under some selling pressure this week as tensions between the United States and North Korea flared up. Bombastic threats from Kim Jong-un to strike the U.S. military outpost of Guam were met with elevated rhetoric from President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary James Mattis. They warned the North Korean regime that it would be wiped out if it initiated an attack or continued making threats.

As concerned investors sold equities on Thursday, precious metals markets received some significant safe-haven inflows. Gold is up 2.0{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} this week to bring spot prices to $1,286 an ounce as of this Friday morning recording and pushing toward its high for the year at just under $1,300. Silver shows a weekly gain of 4.8{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} and now trades at $17.09 per ounce. That’s a 7-week high.

The platinum group metals are also on the move, with platinum up 2.0{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} to $990 an ounce and palladium up 2.2{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} to $899.

Yesterday’s big outperformance in metals has gold bulls eyeing a possible trend change in the Dow to gold ratio. Since mid 2011, blue chip stocks have been trending higher relative to the yellow metal. The Dow-gold ratio has risen from just under 6 to 1 to a high of just under 18 to 1 last month.

That’s still far below the secular high in the ratio from 2000. But it’s also far above the secular low of 1 to 1 seen in 1980. So, there is plenty of room for a major move in the ratio to commence.

Looking at the Dow and the gold market individually, both seem ripe for major moves. In the case of the Dow, the most remarkable feature of this summer’s rally to record highs was vanishing volatility. Day after day prices would inch up in narrow trading ranges.

Extreme lows on the VIX volatility index are unsustainable for very long. And volatility finally came back with a vengeance on Thursday with the Dow dropping 200 points.

In the case of gold, volatility has also been muted in recent months. Even the gold mining stocks, which are notorious for their wild swings, settled into a narrow sideways trading range. But the precious metals sector now appears poised to break out of its summer doldrums to the upside.

It’s too early to call a definitive breakout until gold prices actually close strongly above the $1,300 resistance level. If and when that happens, bulls would be back in the driver’s seat.

And it could be just the beginning of a major trend change in the Dow to gold ratio that lasts for years – with gold outperforming the Dow. That’s why it’s definitely not too late for investors to move some wealth out of the seemingly expensive stock market and into physical precious metals.

As we’ve seen this week, it’s not just gold that stands to benefit when equities go out of favor. The more thinly traded white metals of silver, platinum, and palladium can gain even more dramatically when investors seek hard assets.

Successful investors have to think about which trends are exhausted and which ones may just be getting started. Successful investors don’t try to catch exact tops and bottoms, but they do rotate out of old positions and into new ones as opportunities present. They also diversify their holdings to avoid being too heavily concentrated in any one asset.

How to Harvest St. John’s Wort for Medicinal Tinctures

0

by Jeremiah Johnson, Ready Nutrition:

ReadyNutriton Gals, this article is primarily for you, although Guys may be able to take a good amount from it as well.  Some of this information is specifically tailored toward women; however, parts of it are useful to consider for men and other family members, such as children and the elderly.  St. John’s Wort is an herb that many of you are familiar with and that I have written about in the past.  I’m focusing on it here, as it is really the season of the harvest for it and you should put it to good use.

The Powerful Medicinal Effects of St. John’s Wort

St. John’s is in bloom, now, and vigorously.  The dried, above-ground parts are the ones that are used.  The flowers and fresh buds are the best parts for medicinal use.  It is a perennial plant and grows throughout most of the U.S.  Keep in mind that in some states, such as Montana, it is considered a “noxious weed,” and there is a monetary fine if you grow it/cultivate it even on your own property.

St. John’s is a wound-healer with antimicrobial effects, the latter against organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus.  St. John’s is also one of the herbs that are highly effective in combatting hemorrhagic flu viruses, such as Bird Flu (Avian Flu) and Ebola virus.  It relieves a host of different symptoms and problems that women may find useful. It also aids in dulling nerve pain and pain caused by arthritis.

Depression and anxiety, so common during menopause have been found to be reduced with the use of St. John’s Wort.  It also reduces the symptoms found with PMS(Premenstrual Syndrome) in a study performed with the administration of just one 300 mg (milligram) tablet per day with standardized 900 mcg (micrograms) of Hypericum, the chemical lending its name to the scientific name for St. John’s Wort, or Hypericumperforatum.  The herb has anti-inflammatory effects as well as being useful as a sleep aid.

When used topically, as in an essential oil, it assists in minimizing muscular pain and swelling, helps to heal minor burns, bruising and is great in treating wounds that have punctures in the skin.

How to Make a Tincture of St. John’s Wort

I have long since recommended it in your “kit” as an antimicrobial and an anti-influenza aid.  The best thing to do is tincture it. Harvest St. John’s Wort when flowers are first opening. This is when they are at the medicinal prime. Keep in mind that it is best to cut off any old blooms when making a tincture because of alkaloids in the spent blooms.

Use a solution of at least 52{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} ethyl alcohol.  Grain alcohol is the best for this.

St. John’s Wort Tincture

  1. After removing the flower heads and buds (use latex gloves, or your hands and fingertips will be dyed crimson), chop them up finely and place them in a jar.  Cut plant from the top of the plant to the midsection and fill your water-alcohol solution up to cover the chopped-up flowers. Use 1 part herb to 2 parts menstruum (alcohol).
  2. Shake this vigorously 100 times, two times per day, and store it in a dark place.  Do this for two weeks.
  3. When the time has elapsed, strain out the liquid from your chopped-up plants: it will yield a beautiful tincture that is blood-crimson in color.
  4. Store in a brown bottle and label it.

You will have to determine the concentration from the strength of the mixture, and the volume you accrue.  Generally, your mixture will result in about a 250-350 mg/ml dosage of St. John’s for your tincture.

To use St. John’s Wort internally, add 1 dropper full of tincture with 4 ounces of water for up to three times a day.

You can also make an essential oil with St. John’s Wort. Simply add fresh cut St. John’s Wort to a paper bag and allow to wilt for 24 hours. Then, chop the herb as discussed above and add to a jar filled with 2 ounces of olive oil. Submerge the herb into the oil using a spoon. Allow mixture to sit for two weeks and strain plant material oil of oil. Note: Do not squeeze out the oils as this could add moisture to the essential and could diminish the shelf life of the oil.

Now is the time of the year that it is heavily in flower, and ripe to harvest.  You can also hang it in bunches and dry it out, but tincturing is the most effective method.  Remember to consult with your happy, friendly, family physician prior to using any information in this article, or the one I penned previously.  Happy gathering, and enjoy the summer sun and a harvest of St. John’s in the great outdoors!

Police Stood By As Mayhem Mounted in Charlottesville

0

from The Anti Media:

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — There was nothing haphazard about the violence that erupted Saturday in this bucolic town in Virginia’s heartland. At about 10 a.m. Saturday, at one of countless such confrontations, an angry mob of white supremacists formed a battle line across from a group of counter-protesters, many of them older and gray-haired, who had gathered near a church parking lot. On command from their leader, the young men charged and pummeled their ideological foes with abandon. One woman was hurled to the pavement, and the blood from her bruised head was instantly visible.

Standing nearby, an assortment of Virginia State Police troopers and Charlottesville police wearing protective gear watched silently from behind an array of metal barricades — and did nothing.

It was a scene that played out over and over in Charlottesville as law enforcement confronted the largest public gathering of white supremacists in decades. We walked the streets beginning in the early morning hours and repeatedly witnessed instances in which authorities took a largely laissez faire approach, allowing white supremacists and counter-protesters to physically battle.

Officials in Charlottesville had publicly promised to maintain control of the “Unite the Right” rally, which is the latest in a series of chaotic and bloody racist rallies that have roiled this college town, a place deeply proud of its links to Thomas Jefferson and the origins of American Democracy.

But the white supremacists who flooded into the city’s Emancipation Park — a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee sits in the center of the park — had spent months openly planning for war. The Daily Stormer, a popular neo-Nazi website, encouraged rally attendees to bring shields, pepper spray, and fascist flags and flagpoles. A prominent racist podcast told its listeners to come carrying guns. “Bring whatever you need, that you feel you need for your self defense. Do what you need to do for security of your own person,” said Mike “Enoch” Peinovich on The Right Stuff podcast.

And the white supremacists who showed up in Charlottesville did indeed come prepared for violence. Many wore helmets and carried clubs, medieval-looking round wooden shields, and rectangular plexiglass shields, similar to those used by riot police.

Clad in a black, Nazi-style helmet, Matthew Heimbach told ProPublica, “We’re defending our heritage.” Heimbach, who heads the Traditionalist Workers Party, a self-declared fascist group, said he was willing to die for his cause and would do whatever it took to defend himself. He was surrounded by a brigade of white supremacists, including members of the League of the South and the National Socialist Movement.

By the time Heimbach and his contingent arrived in downtown Charlottesville shortly before 11 a.m., what had started hours earlier with some shoving and a few punches had evolved into a series of wild melees as people attacked one another with fists, feet, and the improvised weapons they’d brought with them to the park. White supremacists and anti-racists began blasting each other with thick orange streams of pepper spray.

The police did little to stop the bloodshed. Several times, a group of assault-rifle-toting militia members from New York State, wearing body armor and desert camo, played a more active role in breaking up fights.

Shortly before noon, authorities shut down the rally and the related demonstrations and marched the white supremacists out of the park and into the streets.

Charlottesville Vice Mayor Wes Bellamy defended the police tactics. “I’m not in the business of throwing our police department under the bus, because they’re doing the best job they can, “ said Bellamy. “I don’t think the police officers were just twiddling their thumbs.”

The skirmishes culminated in what appears to have been an act of domestic terrorism, with a driver ramming his car into a crowd of anti-racist activists on a busy downtown street, killing one and injuring 19 according to the latest information from city officials. Charlottesville authorities Saturday night reported that a 20-year-old Ohio man had been arrested and had been charged with murder.

Two state police officers also died in a helicopter crash.

At a brief press conference this evening, Virginia officials declined to answer questions about the police response, but said they were not taken surprise by the violence or the number of protesters. “This could have been a much worse day,” said Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, “We planned for a long time for today’s incidents.”

Charlottesville police Chief Al Thomas said at least 35 people had been injured — many of them from violent encounters between white supremacists and the counter-protesters. He said nobody had been wounded due to confrontations between police and the public.

In the weeks leading up to the protest, city and state officials put together a detailed plan for the rally, mobilizing 1,000 first responders, including 300 state police troopers and members of the National Guard. Judging from how events unfolded today, it appears that the strategy was to avoid direct confrontations with the protesters.

Miriam Krinsky, a former federal prosecutor who has worked on police reform efforts in Los Angeles, said it was too early to assess the law enforcement response in Charlottesville.

But she said a strategy of disengagement generally works to embolden unruly crowds.

“If things start to escalate and there’s no response, it can very quickly get out of control,” she said. “Individuals can and will get hurt.”

Zuckerberg 2020?

0

by James Corbett, The International Forecaster:

You know, now that I think about it, maybe Zuckerberg is qualified to be President, after all: He’s an unconvicted criminal. He is an enemy of free speech and an ally of the deep state surveillance apparatus.

Look at that. Do you see it? The pieces are sitting there on the table. All we have to do is fit them together. But it’s as if a Medusa head has been cut up into a jigsaw puzzle; simply piecing it together would create a picture too ghastly for anyone to behold. So I’ll let you assemble the picture for yourself: For his annual “personal challenge,” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has vowed “to visit every state I haven’t spent time in before to learn about people’s hopes and challenges, and how they’re thinking about their work and communities.”

He is having lunch with South Dakotan ranchers and hanging out with Ohio steelworkers and other Rockefeller-handing-out-dimes-level staged PR claptrap.

He has inserted an exemption in his corporate succession plan to make sure he can still run Facebook if he leaves the company to go serve in government.

He has hired Joel Benenson, a former Obama advisor and Clinton strategist, to work for the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (Zuck’s obligatory gazillionaire tax shelter / “philantrhopic” social engineering foundation).

And, most tellingly, he has suddenly seen the light and renounced atheism in favor of a more voter-friendly stance: “I was raised Jewish and then I went through a period where I questioned things, but now I believe religion is very important.”

Ugh. It’s too horrific to even write this sentence, but here it goes: Mark Zuckerberg, Overlord of the Evil Facebook Empire, is running for President.

Not officially, of course. Officially he is most certainly not running for president and wherever did you get such a silly idea, anyway? You know, the same way the Hildebeast was “considering” whether to run for president in 2013 and 2014 before finally giving in to the people’s wishes and announcing her candidacy in 2015? And, to be fair, maybe he’ll try for Congress or Senate first. But make no mistake: Sooner or later, barring some miraculous intervention, we may be forced to hear “Hail to the Chief” every time the CEO of Facebook walks into a room.

Well, look on the bright side. At least he isn’t a lizard. (A cyborg, maybe…)

I can’t imagine that anyone reading these words needs to be told precisely why this is such a nightmare, but just in case, let’s go through it all again anyway.

Everyone knows the Hollywood version of the Facebook story. You know, like the chat logs from 2004 where Zuck tells his friend to just ask “if you ever need info about anyone at Harvard.” Explaining that he has the emails, pictures, addresses and other personal details of over 4,000 Harvard students, his friend, incredulous, asks how he managed that. Zuck’s reply? “I don’t know why. They trust me. Dumb fucks.” And then, as we all know, he went ahead and used that data to hack into the email accounts of Facebook’s earliest users.

(Oh, wait, you never heard that part of the story? Hmmm, I wonder why Aaron Sorkin left it out of his script?…)

No wonder, then, that from its very earliest stages Facebook has been surrounded by the usual gaggle of deep state movers and shakers that you would expect to attach themselves to such a marvelous spy engine.

Like Jim Breyer. He was the Managing Partner at Accel Partners, a venture capital firm, when they invested $13 million in start-up money during Facebook’s initial round of funding in 2005. As Facebook’s biggest shareholder, Breyer had a seat on Facebook’s board until he stepped down in 2013. He was also the chairman of the National Venture Capital Association, whose board included Gilman Louie, then the CEO of In-Q-Tel. “And who’s In-Q-Tel?” you might ask (unless you’d watched my video on the subject, of course). Oh, just the CIA’s own venture capital firm. Probably nothing to worry about, though.

Or Peter Thiel. The other major early investor in Facebook, Thiel still sits on the Facebook board. He is also the co-founder and former CEO of globalist PayPal, and he’s not just a proud Bilderberg attendee but actually sits on the influential steering committee, deciding on the globalist conclave’s agenda and invitation list.

As The Onion accurately observed back when The Onion still did cutting, relevant stuff, Facebook should more accurately be known as “The Facebook CIA Project.”

Of course, Facebook has done nothing to dispel the suspicion that it is an active collaborator in deep state surveillance and censorship of the web.

Facebook actively and knowingly helped the NSA illegally collect data on Americans.

Facebook developed special censorship software to accommodate the Chinese government. They actually employed this technology in Thailand. And Zuckerberg was caught on a hot mic agreeing to help Merkel censor Facebook in Germany in 2015.

Last year Facebook employees admitted to actively censoring stories from the “wrong” political perspective from their trending news section.

And now they’re adding 3,000 “content control staff” to combat “hate speech” and “fake news,” i.e., anything that doesn’t comport with the mainstream political groupthink, like those damn Russkie disinfo sites.

You know, now that I think about it, maybe Zuckerberg is qualified to be President, after all: He’s an unconvicted criminal. He is an enemy of free speech and an ally of the deep state surveillance apparatus. He is willing to discard his beliefs (or non-beliefs) on a dime based on whatever way he thinks the political winds are blowing. And he seems so curiously inhuman that many are compelled to ask if he is indeed a robot.
