Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has claimed that a European commissioner told him he could end up suffering the same fate as Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who survived an assassination attempt last week.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Kobakhidze said that the unnamed commissioner warned him during a recent phone call that the West would take “a number of measures” against him if his government pressed ahead with a law requiring foreign NGOs in Georgia to disclose their funding.

That’s exactly what the Bureau of Labor Statistics did to the Consumer Price Index formula in the 1990s. Because the CPI kept indicating price inflation was too high, the BLS tweaked the formula to spit out a lower inflation number.
Now the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) is trying to talk the Federal Reserve into changing the formula for the supplementary leverage ratio (SLR) to make bank balance sheets look better.
This proposal sends some alarming messages about the stability of the banking system and confidence in U.S. government debt.

This week, it was reported that Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen has traveled to El Salvador to secure the release from prison of MS13 gang member, wife abuser, and illegal immigrant Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Van Hollen portrays the gangster as an innocent man, a husband who needs to be returned to his wife, though his native country is El Salvador. This, of course, is political grandstanding. The President of El Salvador refused all of Van Hollen’s requests.
