There are a number of new laws that will kick in in 2024, but one of the most interesting fights are likely to over the new California law requiring stores with more than 500 employees to carry “gender-neutral” toys over face state fines. The law, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2021, is likely to trigger free speech challenges.
The law covers childcare items, which is defined as “any product designed or intended by the manufacturer to facilitate sleep, relaxation, or the feeding of children, or to help children with sucking or teething.”

In any contest between two or more parties, an impartial referee is often necessary to ensure that the rules are followed fairly.
This includes sports and competitions of all kinds, debates, and yes, even spelling bees in elementary school. Without impartial judges, there is no confidence that the victories were legitimate.
This is why it is such a scandal whenever it is alleged that a referee in a hotly-contested college football championship has made a questionable game-changing call, or when a judge is found to have ties to the defendant that seemingly slants his ruling.

The governing body of the much-anticipated summer and winter sports extravaganzas will, the U.K.’s Times reported, ban “trans women” from women’s events. The reason: Because “trans women” are really men, and science proves that men have an unfair advantage over women when competing in the same events.
At long last, the IOC has caught up with the rest of sane humanity. Or as Space X tycoon Elon Musk put it, the outfit made a “mind-blowing discovery.”

Assembly Bill 1043, signed by Governor Gavin Newsom and taking effect January 1, 2027, requires every operating system provider to collect age information from users at account setup and broadcast that data to app developers through a real-time API.
Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, Linux distributions, Valve’s SteamOS: if it runs an operating system, it’s covered by this overreaching law.
