Groundbreaking Study Shows Fasting Can Slow Aging, Rebuild, Immune System, Reverse Diabetes

Groundbreaking research reveals the dramatic healing benefits of a fasting mimicking diet, including rebooting the immune system and slowing aging.

Los Angeles, CA – Cutting edge research reveals that occasionally adopting a diet that mimics the effects of fasting may provide dramatic health benefits.

“Fasting flips a regenerative switch essentially regenerating the entire immune system. It gives the OK for stem cells to go begin proliferating and rebuild the entire system,” said Prof Valter Longo, Professor of Gerontology and the Biological Sciences at the University of California.

A study, led by USC’s Dr. Valter, revealed that a “cycles of a four-day low-calorie diet that mimics fasting (FMD) cut visceral belly fat and elevated the number of progenitor and stem cells in several organs of old mice — including the brain, where it boosted neural regeneration and improved learning and memory,” according to USC News.

The initial tests on mice were part of a three-tiered study on the effects of periodic fasting — testing yeast, mice and humans — which was published in Cell Metabolism on June 18, 2015.

According to a report from USC News:

Mice, which have relatively short life spans, provided details about fasting’s lifelong effects. Yeast, which are simpler organisms, allowed Longo to uncover the biological mechanisms that fasting triggers at a cellular level. And a pilot study in humans found evidence that the mouse and yeast studies were, indeed, applicable to humans.

Bimonthly cycles that lasted four days of an FMD which started at middle age extended life span, reduced the incidence of cancer, boosted the immune system, reduced inflammatory diseases, slowed bone mineral density loss and improved the cognitive abilities of older mice tracked in the study. The total monthly calorie intake was the same for the FMD and control diet groups, indicating that the effects were not the result of an overall dietary restriction.

In a pilot human trial, three cycles of a similar diet were given to 19 subjects once a month for five days and decreased risk factors and biomarkers for aging, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer with no major adverse side effects, according to Longo.

Dr. Longo notes that strict fasting can be difficult for people to adhere to, and also has the potential to be dangerous, while pointing out that a fasting mimicking diet is much safer and easier.

“Strict fasting is hard for people to stick to, and it can also be dangerous, so we developed a complex diet that triggers the same effects in the body,” said Longo, Edna M. Jones Professor of Biogerontology at the USC Davis School of Gerontology and director of the USC Longevity Institute. “I’ve personally tried both, and the fasting mimicking diet is a lot easier and also a lot safer.”

The fasting mimicking diet cuts a person’s daily caloric intake over the fasting period down to 34 to 54 percent of their daily average, with a specific balance of micronutrients, fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.

In previous groundbreaking research, Longo has shown how fasting can protect immune and other cells from chemotherapy toxicity, while simultaneously starving out cancer cells. Fasting for seventy-two hours protected cancer patients against the toxic impact of chemotherapy:

“Chemotherapy causes significant collateral damage to the immune system. The results of this study suggest fasting may mitigate the harmful effects of chemotherapy,” said co-author Tanya Dorff, assistant professor of clinical medicine at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Hospital.

“We are investigating the possibility that these effects are applicable to different systems and organs, not just the immune system”, Longo said.

“The good news is the body got rid of the parts in the system which might be damaged or old and inefficient parts, during the fasting. If you start with a system heavily damaged by chemotherapy or aging, fasting cycles can generate, literally, a new immune system,” he said.

USC News reports that:

For 25 days a month, study participants went back to their regular eating habits — good or bad — once they finished the treatment. They were not asked to change their diet and still saw positive changes.

Longo believes that for most normal people, the FMD can be done every three to six months, depending on the abdominal circumference and health status. For obese subjects or those with elevated disease risk factors, the FMD could be recommended by the physician as often as once every two weeks. His group is testing its effect in a randomized clinical trial, which will be completed soon, with more than 70 subjects.

“It’s about reprogramming the body so it enters a slower aging mode, but also rejuvenating it through stem cell-based regeneration,” Longo said. “It’s not a typical diet because it isn’t something you need to stay on.”

“If the results remain as positive as the current ones, I believe this FMD will represent the first safe and effective intervention to promote positive changes associated with longevity and health span, which can be recommended by a physician,” Longo told USC News. “We will soon meet with FDA officers to pursue several FDA claims for disease prevention and treatment.”

Swapping out SODA for WATER can help you lose 14 pounds a year

Cutting back on soda intake and replacing them with water may lead to significant weight loss within a year, a recent Consumer Reports study revealed.

According to the report, drinking 20 ounces of water in place of the same amount of soda may help a person ward off as much as 119 cups of refined sugar within a year. This, in turn, prevents the body from absorbing 52 extra pounds of refined sugar over the same period. The report also showed that swapping out soda with water may lead to a total weight loss of 14 pounds within one year.

The report also revealed that consuming less-sugary beverages — such as milkorange juice, and energy drinks — instead of soda may result in a significant weight loss between three to more than nine pounds. This also reduces refined sugar consumption between 47 to 97 cups per year.

Researchers said adopting these changes could make a difference in today’s worsening obesity epidemic. According to the experts, an average American consumes between 150 calories from soda each day, which was a big part of the 300 extra calories that the general population has apparently added to their daily diets over the years.

“Take away one can of soda, which would be about 150 calories, and you’re halfway there to offsetting that,” Philadelphia Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley said in a Daily Mail article.

The experts also noted that young people are more likely to benefit from this method, as doing so would readily stem childhood obesity that usually persists in adulthood.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), frequent consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages may result in a plethora of adverse health conditions including diabetes, heart disease, kidney diseases, and tooth decay as well as gout, cavities, and non-alcoholic liver disease.

Replacing soda with water may facilitate weight loss, studies show

Previous studies have already established that replacing soda with water may significantly improve body weight.

Just last year, a study carried out by Virginia Tech and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill revealed that replacing one eight-ounce sugary drink with the same amount of water may help reduce calorie intake in adults aged 19 years and older. The experts also noted that adopting the one-for-one drink swap method helped improve the participants’ scores on the Healthy Beverage Index. “Regardless of how many servings of sugar-sweetened beverages you consume, replacing even just one serving can be of benefit …We found that among U.S. adults who consume one serving of sugar-sweetened beverages per day, replacing that drink with water lowered the percent of calories coming from drinks from 17 to 11 percent. Even those who consumed more sugary drinks per day could still benefit from water replacement,” researcher  Kiyah J. Duffey told Science Daily online.

In another study, researchers at The University of Nottingham and Tehran University of Medical Sciences found that replacing diet soda with water helped improve body weight and insulin sensitivity in obese women with type-2 diabetes.

“Our results are very interesting. They show that the women drinking water after their main meal at lunch time over 24 weeks lost on average 1.16kg more than the women who drank diet drinks after their meal. We think that by drinking water instead of sweet-tasting diet drinks, the women may be adhering better to the weight loss diet because artificial sweeteners may increase desire for sweetened and more energy dense foods,” researcher Dr. Hamid Farshchi said in a university release.

The Bioterroism Threat to Our Vulnerable Food Supplies

If the Deep State, does what many of us in the media believe they are going to do, they will soon provoke a crisis, declare martial law and use food as the ultimate weapon to subjugate an unruly population. This article provides an assessment of these possibilities.

This article will examine past history and archival information in order to look for a pattern of behavior which suggests that the Deep State in this country plans to use food as a weapon against the people. This will be followed by an analysis of a current state of affairs in order better assess the immediacy of any such threat.

The Historical Precedent of Using Food As a Weapon

The two most notable examples of dictators using food as a weapon in order to destroy the free will of their people, comes from the regimes of Stalin and Hitler.

Josef Stalin engaged in his own Soviet-style Holocaust when, in 1932 and 1933, an estimated six to 20 million people in the Ukraine died from starvation when Stalin implemented his prescription of “hope and change” policies in order to eliminate the Ukrainian’s desire for becoming their own nation-state.

Upon assuming power, the Stalinist Communist regime rapidly nationalized the food industry and forced all of the region’s farms into collectives. This is exactly what is happening under the Obama administration and the dramatic rise of corporately owned farms.

Stalin’s version of the Holocaust came to fruition in what history has dubbed, the “Holodomor,” in which millions perished in only a two year period when the Soviet government began to exterminate the Ukrainian population by taking control of food and food production. And why would Stalin do such a thing to his own people? The Ukrainians were discussing and publicizing some very dangerous ideas about freedom, liberty and the ability to act on their desire for political autonomy. Americans would be wise to heed this warning as despots hate freedom. The parallel between Stalin and collectivist farms and American corporately owned farms is very disturbing.

Hitler proclaimed that food could be used as a tool “…to discipline the masses” and he did not hesitate to use the control of food as a type of carrot and stick in which he would reward accomplishment and punish failure as well as to ferment preferential class distinctions in which his armed forces received the largest food ration cards. Skilled workers who were engaged in industries critical to the building of the German war machine, received food ration cards which were slightly less in value. And, finally, the prisoners and the Jews received the lowest valued Nazi food ration cards. Food ration cards were also utilized as incentives to increase industrial production and were also increased in value when productive Nazi workers would be promoted. Food ration cards were diminished in value for the failure to meet Nazi production goals. Hitler’s use of what psychologists refer to as classical conditioning techniques reduced the will of the German population to a pack of Pavlovian dogs who were conditioned to be totally dependent upon the government for their survival. The presence of 50 million Americans on food stamps would certainly make an applicable parallel to Hitler’s practices and the potential for Obama, or another future president to follow in Hitler’s footsteps with regard to food management.

BREAKTHROUGH as certain probiotics are found to produce powerful antibiotics that kill superbugs

Scientists at the Baylor College of Medicine are saying that next-generation probiotics can reduce the risk of becoming infected with the bacterium Clostridium difficile, also known a C. difficileor C. diff. This is a common bacterial infection which causes gastrointestinal issues such as bowel discomfort and diarrhea. Treatment for the condition usually involves several rounds of antibiotics, which medical science says is very effective. Yet, even accounting for efficiency and efficacy, 35 percent of patients who are infected experience a relapse within a few years. These new findings could determine an entirely new treatment method that involves natural alternatives.

Probiotics are live bacteria which are known to be good for the gut as well as overall health. The easiest way to incorporate these into your diet is to take ample amounts of curds, such as yogurt or kefir. A specific type of probiotic, Lactobacillus reuteri, is particularly observed to be ideal for promoting health. When the bacterium was first discovered in the 1960s, scientists believed that L. reuteri occurred naturally in the bodies of around 30 to 40 percent of the general population. However, changes in diet and lifestyle have reduced that number to 10 to 20 percent.

This is why many food manufacturers are adding probiotics (especially L. reuteri) to their products. Even so, authors of this latest study suggest that the bacteria may have a more important role in gastrointestinal infections. They noted that traditional treatment methods which involve antibiotics may actually kill off “good” bacteria as well, making a person more susceptible to disease. C. difficile, they said, was a remarkably sneaky bacterium. The attempt to find the correct balance between “good” and “bad” bacteria in the gut has led some people to look into more unusual treatments. “When repeated antibiotics treatments fail to eliminate C. difficile infections, some patients are resorting to fecal microbiome transplant — the transfer of fecal matter from a healthy donor — which treats the disease but also could have negative side effects,” Dr. Jennifer K. Spinier, co-author of the study said on Science Daily. “We wanted to find an alternative treatment, a prophylactic strategy based on probiotics that could help prevent C. difficile from thriving in the first place.”

The team found that when L. reuteri was supplied with glycerol (a polyol compound), it produced reuterin, an antibacterial agent which selectively killed C.difficile. The mechanism was only seen among L.reuteri, however, which senior author Dr. Tor Savidge says, “provides important clues on why clinical efficacy may be seen in some patients treated with one probiotic bacterium but not with others.”

Both Drs. Spinier and Savidge hope to develop these compounds in a microbial community through lab cultures.

They and their team note that their findings are still at their preliminary stages. Further research into the topic is necessary. That said, they are optimistic that they have discovered a new preventive strategy for gastrointestinal health.

These findings were published in Infection and Immunity.

C. difficile in America

The disease is quite common, and all the more burdensome due to its prevalence. A published report on The New England Journal of Medicine concluded that clostridium difficile places a heavy weight in the United States. According to the authors, the number of hospitalizations due to C. difficile infections among nonpregnant adults doubled from 2000 through 2010. It is even attributed to around 14,000 deaths in 2007, all the while costing our government an estimated $4.8 billion in acute care facilities alone.

Those most vulnerable to the infection are:

  • People who have been treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics,
  • Those over 65 years old,
  • Individuals with an underlying condition such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or kidney disease,
  • Cancer patients,
  • Adults who are taking proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), and
  • People who have had surgery on their digestive system.

 A common kitchen staple has saved the life of a 57-old woman who had been battling blood cancer for five years. After undergoing three rounds of chemotherapy and four stem cell transplants to treat myeloma, Dieneke Ferguson thought she had exhausted all her options.

Myeloma develops when the white blood cells produced in the bone marrow start to multiply uncontrollably. When this happens, the body stops producing the normal antibodies needed to fight infection, resulting in bone damage, intense pain, fatigue, and nerve damage. Usually, people who develop the disease do not live beyond five years of diagnosis.

Speaking to the Daily Mail Online, Ferguson, who lives in North London and runs Hidden Art, a not-for-profit business helping artists market their work, explained that she had been on all sorts of toxic drugs with terrifying side-effects. At some point these toxic substances made her lose her memory for three days and two vertebrae in her spine collapsed so she couldn’t walk. Despite everything she tried, the cancer seemed unstoppable.

As conventional cancer treatments let her down, she thought she was losing the battle. As a last resort, Ferguson turned to a natural product called curcumin. Curcumin is the yellow pigment extracted from turmeric, the healing spice known used in Indian curries and golden milk.

How a kitchen staple changed this woman’s life

Since she had nothing to lose and learned about curcumin’s cancer-fighting properties via an internet support group, she decided to try this ancient remedy. Since turmeric only contains two percent of the cancer-fighting compound curcumin, Ferguson started taking eight grams of concentrated curcumin in tablet form daily.

“I told my oncologist I was taking it and he was very interested, especially when it apparently made such a difference,” said Ferguson.

Where all other conventional treatments failed, curcumin supplements had a tremendous effect. After five years of taking the curcumin tablets, Ferguson’s cancer cell count is negligible.

Many studies have shown curcumin’s ability to stop cancer in its tracks, inhibiting cancer cell growth and triggering programmed cell death. Over 2,000 scientific studies have displayed curcumin’s ability to combat cancers of the breast, prostate, liver, colon, lung, pancreas, and more. Though curcumin’s powerful anticancer properties have been known for ages, the medical world and mainstream media remained silent until now.

Dieneke Ferguson’s recovery was so incredible it has been featured in a case report published in the eminent British Medical Journal (BMJ).

“When you review her chart, there’s no alternative explanation [for her recovery] other than we’re seeing a response to curcumin,”  said Jamie Cavenagh, professor of blood diseases at London’s Barts Hospital and co-author of the report.

The cancer-fighting properties of curcumin are real

Ferguson is convinced curcumin could help other people battling cancer. The problem, however, is that the medical world cannot recommend it, she noted. In eastern medicine curcumin has been used for centuries, not only to combat cancer but also in the successful treatment of a host of illnesses, including heart disease, infection, depression, and dementia.

The scientific world has extensively researched its anti-inflammatory, cancer-fighting, and antiseptic effects. Nonetheless, turmeric isn’t being promoted as a safe, affordable treatment.

“Curcumin is a strong anti-inflammatory agent and chronic inflammation is the precursor of 99 per cent of all cancers,” explained Angus Dalgleish, a professor of cancer at St George’s Hospital in South London

Before it can be widely prescribed by doctors, it must be tested in large-scale trials. Sadly, nobody is willing to take up the challenge since these trials cost millions of dollars. An investment that could never be repaid as there is no big money to be made from sales of a natural compound that cannot be patented, the Daily Mail Online reported.

Julie Ryan, a cancer specialist at the University of Rochester Medical Center in New York, told the journal Nature that the biological activity of curcumin is real. She believes that chemically modified forms may be even more effective at reaching certain tissues.

Physical, geographic and lifestyle factors all affect the individual need for vitamin D

The National Institutes of Health recommend that adults take 600 IU a day of vitamin D – an amount recently raised from 400 IU in response to studies showing vitamin D’s therapeutic benefits.

According to Dr. Cobb, the recommended daily amount is “almost never enough” – especially for the purposes of cancer prevention. And, naturopathic physicians tend to agree, with many prescribing supplementary dosages in the area of 8,000 IU a day – well over ten times the NIH recommendations.

As of 2000, some 99 percent of the population had access to sanitation, and 100 percent had access to water, but water was not always potable. Medical treatment is free. In the past, there reportedly has been one doctor for every 700 inhabitants and one hospital bed for every 350 inhabitants

“In 2006 life expectancy was estimated at 74.5 years for women and 68.9 for men, or nearly 71.6 years total.”

Higher than in most developing countries. Lower than in the United States.

The latest vaccine tragedy to strike has killed two babies in La Pimienta, Mexico and sent 37 more to the hospital with serious reactions to toxic vaccine additives. (Tweet this story)

“…14 children are in serious condition, 22 are stable and one is in critical condition,” the Chiapas Health Secretariat said in a statement via Latino.FoxNews.com.

What’s especially alarming is that only 52 children were vaccinated in all, meaning that 75{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} of those receiving the vaccines are now either dead or hospitalized.

The vaccines were administered by the Mexican Social Security Institute, known as IMSS. The IMSS confirmed the deadly reactions occurred after children received injections of vaccines for tuberculosis, rotavirus and hepatitis B — the same viral strains targeted by vaccines routinely administered to children in the United States.

According to Fox News Latino, the IMSS has suspended the vaccines pending the outcome of an investigation into why so many children have been killed and hospitalized.

According to the entire mainstream media in the United States — which is 100{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} controlled by corporate interests — vaccines never harm anyone and are perfectly safe to inject into children in unlimited quantities. This dangerous, inhumane “Vaccine Injury Denialism” is rampant across the corporate-controlled media, which contributes to the deaths of innocent babies and children by refusing to acknowledge the truth that vaccines kill and injure children on a regular basis.

Just recently, in fact, the UK government agreed to pay $90 million to victims of the swine flu vaccine. That vaccine caused permanent brain damage to over 800 children across Europe. The truth is that vaccines regularly harm and even kill innocent children, most likely because of the toxic chemical adjuvants and preservatives they still contain.

As the CDC openly admits, vaccines are still intentionally formulated with mercury, aluminum, MSG and formaldehyde. Some vaccines even use ingredients derived from aborted human fetal tissue. Last year, a CDC scientist blew the whistle on the CDC committing scientific fraud to cover up links between vaccines and autism in young African-American males.

Test run for depopulation via vaccines?

As globalists now fully realize, vaccines are by far the best way to cull the human population because most people can be tricked into lining up and asking for them. Thus, there’s no need to resort to all the difficulties used by the Nazis to commit genocide in World War II, involving complex logistics of railroad cars, gas chambers, construction of mass graves, prisoner tracking via IBM computing technology, and so on. (Yes, Nazi genocide and prisoner tracking was powered by early IBM computers. See IBM and the Holocaust, the strategic alliance between Nazi Germany and America’s most powerful corporation…)

As the vaccine industry has now come to realize, it’s so much easier to kill people when they voluntarily comply with the injections. Hence the aggressive media propaganda push to achieve absolute blind obedience to vaccines so that no one will ask questions when sterilization or euthanasia chemicals are used. That’s no doubt why vaccines have been routinely tested for depopulation programs via two primary methods:

# 1) Achieve covert sterilizations of targeted populations by combining sterilization chemicals with vaccines. (The “slow kill.”)

# 2) Directly kill vaccine recipients by intentionally lacing vaccines with euthanasia chemicals that cause death. (The “fast kill.”)

Method #1 has been repeatedly used throughout Africa, Mexico and South America to inflict sterilization upon targeted groups via immunization and vaccination programs. Just last year, in fact, I reported on the discovery of a covert depopulation vaccine program being run in Kenya:

Tetanus vaccines given to millions of young women in Kenya have been confirmed by laboratories to contain a sterilization chemical that causes miscarriages, reports the Kenya Catholic Doctors Association, a pro-vaccine organization.

A whopping 2.3 million young girls and women are in the process of being given the vaccine, pushed by UNICEF and the World Health Organization.

“We sent six samples from around Kenya to laboratories in South Africa. They tested positive for the HCG antigen,” Dr. Muhame Ngare of the Mercy Medical Centre in Nairobi told LifeSiteNews. “They were all laced with HCG.”

Method #2 now appears to be under way in Mexico as 75{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} of those children injected with vaccines are now either dead or hospitalized.

Vaccine-induced depopulation was attempted in Mexico in 1974

As Truth Stream Media exhaustively documented, a depopulation exercise was run in Mexico in 1974, using vaccines as the cover story.

The scheme was dreamed up after the release of the National Security Study Memorandum 200 which highlighted the global population problem and urged governments to find ways to reduce the global population.

As TruthStreamMedia.com explains:

Concentration on this “problem” of how to reduce the population was planned for 13 key countries, including India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, Mexico, Indonesia, Brazil, the Philippines, Thailand, Egypt, Turkey, Ethiopia and Colombia. Of those, the document singled out Mexico as having one of the highest (and therefore, most worrisome) growth rates of all. The document read, “Perhaps the most significant population trend from the viewpoint of the United States is the prospect that Mexico’s population will increase from 50 million in 1970 to over 130 million by the year 2000.”

To combat this problem, “medical spooks” — who were almost certainly U.S.-funded depopulation vaccine crews — began injecting women all across Mexico with anti-fertility drugs disguised as vaccines. If you doubt this, read your history. The U.S. government’s National Institutes of Health was caught red-handed running human medical experiments on prisoners in Guatemala. President Obama was even forced to publicly apologize in 2011 after the cover-up collapsed! There is nothing the Nazis did in the 1930s and 40s that the pharmaceutical industry wouldn’t be willing to repeat today under the label of “science.”

But getting back to Mexico, as the covert depopulation vaccination program spread across Mexico City in 1974, locals began to catch on to the deception, and public resistance grew. As these newspaper clippings reveal, parents began hiding their children in their own homes to avoid them being injected with sterilization chemicals at the public schools. (California, by the way, also targets children at schools in order to avoid parents having the opportunity to say “No!”)

Mexico City – Associated Press – Rumors that persons disguised as inoculation teams were giving school children shots that sterilized them forced health authorities to suspend all vaccination drives today and to post police outside Mexico City schools. Thousands of parents stormed various schools in the Mexico City area Tuesday and took their children home.

It’s also important to note that these sterilization vaccines were being administered essentially at gunpoint, as police were accompanying the vaccine crews:

Callers told newspapers and TV stations that the sterilization crews were protected by police escorts and that they included white-robed men and women “who looked like foreigners.”

This same scenario is now about to be replicated in California, by the way, where SB 277would criminalize parents of children who are not vaccinated, essentially at gunpoint.

What’s even more interesting is that the exact same arguments we hear today about vaccine skeptics — they’re punitively labeled “anti-vaxxers” or “anti-science” — were also being used in Mexico in 1974. As the following newspaper clipping shows:

How to Harvest St. John’s Wort for Medicinal Tinctures

ReadyNutriton Gals, this article is primarily for you, although Guys may be able to take a good amount from it as well.  Some of this information is specifically tailored toward women; however, parts of it are useful to consider for men and other family members, such as children and the elderly.  St. John’s Wort is an herb that many of you are familiar with and that I have written about in the past.  I’m focusing on it here, as it is really the season of the harvest for it and you should put it to good use.

The Powerful Medicinal Effects of St. John’s Wort

St. John’s is in bloom, now, and vigorously.  The dried, above-ground parts are the ones that are used.  The flowers and fresh buds are the best parts for medicinal use.  It is a perennial plant and grows throughout most of the U.S.  Keep in mind that in some states, such as Montana, it is considered a “noxious weed,” and there is a monetary fine if you grow it/cultivate it even on your own property.

St. John’s is a wound-healer with antimicrobial effects, the latter against organisms such as Staphylococcus aureus.  St. John’s is also one of the herbs that are highly effective in combatting hemorrhagic flu viruses, such as Bird Flu (Avian Flu) and Ebola virus.  It relieves a host of different symptoms and problems that women may find useful. It also aids in dulling nerve pain and pain caused by arthritis.

Depression and anxiety, so common during menopause have been found to be reduced with the use of St. John’s Wort.  It also reduces the symptoms found with PMS(Premenstrual Syndrome) in a study performed with the administration of just one 300 mg (milligram) tablet per day with standardized 900 mcg (micrograms) of Hypericum, the chemical lending its name to the scientific name for St. John’s Wort, or Hypericumperforatum.  The herb has anti-inflammatory effects as well as being useful as a sleep aid.

When used topically, as in an essential oil, it assists in minimizing muscular pain and swelling, helps to heal minor burns, bruising and is great in treating wounds that have punctures in the skin.

How to Make a Tincture of St. John’s Wort

I have long since recommended it in your “kit” as an antimicrobial and an anti-influenza aid.  The best thing to do is tincture it. Harvest St. John’s Wort when flowers are first opening. This is when they are at the medicinal prime. Keep in mind that it is best to cut off any old blooms when making a tincture because of alkaloids in the spent blooms.

Use a solution of at least 52{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} ethyl alcohol.  Grain alcohol is the best for this.

St. John’s Wort Tincture

  1. After removing the flower heads and buds (use latex gloves, or your hands and fingertips will be dyed crimson), chop them up finely and place them in a jar.  Cut plant from the top of the plant to the midsection and fill your water-alcohol solution up to cover the chopped-up flowers. Use 1 part herb to 2 parts menstruum (alcohol).
  2. Shake this vigorously 100 times, two times per day, and store it in a dark place.  Do this for two weeks.
  3. When the time has elapsed, strain out the liquid from your chopped-up plants: it will yield a beautiful tincture that is blood-crimson in color.
  4. Store in a brown bottle and label it.

You will have to determine the concentration from the strength of the mixture, and the volume you accrue.  Generally, your mixture will result in about a 250-350 mg/ml dosage of St. John’s for your tincture.

To use St. John’s Wort internally, add 1 dropper full of tincture with 4 ounces of water for up to three times a day.

You can also make an essential oil with St. John’s Wort. Simply add fresh cut St. John’s Wort to a paper bag and allow to wilt for 24 hours. Then, chop the herb as discussed above and add to a jar filled with 2 ounces of olive oil. Submerge the herb into the oil using a spoon. Allow mixture to sit for two weeks and strain plant material oil of oil. Note: Do not squeeze out the oils as this could add moisture to the essential and could diminish the shelf life of the oil.

Now is the time of the year that it is heavily in flower, and ripe to harvest.  You can also hang it in bunches and dry it out, but tincturing is the most effective method.  Remember to consult with your happy, friendly, family physician prior to using any information in this article, or the one I penned previously.  Happy gathering, and enjoy the summer sun and a harvest of St. John’s in the great outdoors!

Most cancer is caused by processed food and toxic ingredients, new study confirms

A recently published study out of Canada showed that the total amount of cancer rates that can be linked to lifestyle and environmental factors is substantial, at almost 41 percent.

According to the researchers, “We estimated summary population attributable risk estimates for 24 risk factors (smoking [both passive and active], overweight and obesity, inadequate physical activity, diet [inadequate fruit and vegetable consumption, inadequate fiber intake, excess red and processed meat consumption, salt consumption, inadequate calcium and vitamin D intake], alcohol, hormones [oral contraceptives and hormone therapy], infections [Epstein-Barr virus, hepatitis B and C viruses, human papillomavirus, Helicobacter pylori], air pollution, natural and artificial ultraviolet radiation, radon and water disinfection by-products) by combining population attributable risk estimates for each of the 24 factors that had been previously estimated.”

The researchers found out that 40.8 percent of cancer cases can be attributed to the above-mentioned 24 factors. “Tobacco smoking was responsible for the greatest cancer burden, accounting for an estimated 15.7 percent of all incident cancer cases (2,485 cases), followed by physical inactivity and excess body weight, which were responsible for an estimated 7.2 percent and 4.3 percent of incident cancer cases, respectively.”

The other factors were responsible for less than four percent of incident cancer cases each. The researchers concluded that combined with exercise and the conscious effort to avoid the environmental factors of incurring cancer, the disease is preventable. Also embedded in the study is the added knowledge that a big part of what is considered as a bad diet is the inclusion of too many sugars, which is common in today’s society. Nowadays, 80 percent of all packaged products contain some form of fructose.

Too much fat intake is also not good for the body. As a matter of fact, a July 2017 study that was published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology showed that saturated fat intake is related to a risk of lung cancer in smokers and those who have quit smoking for the past 10 years. Charred and barbecued meats, on the other hand, can increase the risks of pancreatic and breast cancers.

But what takes the cake are processed foods. According to Hong Kong dietitian Sally Shi-Po Poon, “processed foods” can be said to represent any food that has been altered from its natural state in some way, for convenience’s sake.

Common processed foods include breakfast cereals, canned and frozen vegetables, bread, pasta, savory snacks such as crisps and biscuits, microwave or read-to-eat meals, bread, oils, processed meats such as luncheon meat and jerky, and drinks such as coffee, juice, and milk.

However, not all processed foods are unhealthy, Poon said. For instance, milk needs to be pasteurized, therefore altered from its natural state, in order to remove harmful bacteria from its constitution.

For his part, Health Designer founder and senior dietitian Vin Ip said some processed foods are not detrimental to your health, noting, “Minimally processed foods are almost identical to unprocessed foods and are therefore acceptable to include in our diet.”

What must be avoided at all costs are heavily-processed foods, for instance, deli meats like bacon, salami, and sausages, for they are high in salt, nitrites, and nitrates and are likely to cause cancer. “Eating 50 grams of processed meat every day increases one’s risk of colorectal cancer by 18 percent. That’s the equivalent of about four strips of bacon or one hot dog,” Poon said.

Researchers May Have Found A Way To Beat HIV, And It All Stems From Cows

Cows may be the answer to something that’s not related to food.

The continued existence of cattle around the world can be pinned on humans’ need to consume them, whether that’s by using their milk or eating their meat. Besides this primary function, and the fact that they can rapidly eat grass, there doesn’t seem to be a huge need for cows otherwise, save for companionship. However, researchers may have just found another complex purpose for these sturdy creatures that has nothing to do with food but everything to do with health.

If you’re not familiar with HIV or are unsure why it’s so difficult to control, here’s the breakdown: the Human Immunodeficiency Virus infects a specific white blood cell that is built to attack viruses, making it not only difficult to detect the virus but nearly impossible to attack. On the off chance that a human’s immune system is able to create antibodies to defeat the virus, which has been observed before, it takes years for this to happen and by then the virus has already evolved so much that it can overcome the antibodies. As a result, the best response to HIV are bNAbs, or broadly neutralising antibodies, which can attack multiple forms of virus at once.

“From the early days of the epidemic, we have recognized that HIV is very good at evading immunity, so exceptional immune systems that naturally produce broadly neutralizing antibodies to HIV are of great interest – whether they belong to humans or cattle,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Researchers turned to cows after recognizing that a complex immune and digestive system might be the key to combatting the virus. Since cattle have a ruminant digestive system that allows grass to sit for a period of time in order to ferments, scientists knew that their systems are riddled with hostile bacteria that they deal with on a daily basis. They decided to test the animals to see if they already contained or could produce the necessary antibodies to defeat HIV and its rapidity.

For the experiment, injected 117 calves with the virus antigens and tested them regularly to see how their bodies responded. Since HIV is not natural to cattle, as it started as a virus for primates that mutated to attack human cells, their bodies would have to produce an all new response to the infection. The results were “mind-blowing,” as researchers said, as the cattle began producing bNAbs to fight the virus within weeks.

“The response blew our minds,” Dr. Devin Sok, one of the researchers, told BBC News. “It was just insane how good it looked. In humans, it takes three to five years to develop the antibodies we’re talking about. This is really important because we hadn’t been able to do it period. Who would have thought cow biology was making a significant contribution to HIV?”
