Hundreds of workers at Google DeepMind’s London office voted on Tuesday, May 5, to unionize, citing concerns that the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) technology is being used by the U.S. and Israeli militaries.
The employees formally requested that DeepMind recognize the Communication Workers Union (CWU) and Unite the Union as their bargaining representatives, with 98 percent of CWU members voting in favor, according to a report published by Middle East Eye. [1] Organizers said the effort could become the first unionization drive at a major “frontier AI” lab globally.
