Idaho Embraces Neofeudalism with Its “Noncompete” Legislation

1

by Michael Krieger, Liberty Blitzkrieg:
Before I begin, I want to mention that my only experience with Idaho (unfortunately), was driving through the southeastern part of the state during my six-week cross country road trip in 2010. It was some of the most majestic and peaceful scenery I had ever seen, and I’d love to return and explore more of the state in the future. I’ve also heard Boise is a pretty cool city. It’s unfortunate that a state with so much potential passed the anti-freedom legislation described below, but I have faith the people will figure it out and reverse course.

Much of my recent writing has been focused on the need for political decentralization, meaning that states and local communities need to start experimenting more and making decisions for themselves on a wider range of important policy questions. This naturally will lead to some really good outcomes, but also some genuine disasters. Idaho’s noncompete law falls into the latter category.

The Fed Has Hit the ‘Pause’ Button

by Jim Rickards, DailyReckoning:
Last week the Fed raised the white flag on further rate hikes. There won’t be any for the foreseeable future.

No rate hikes are coming at the July, September or November Fed FOMC meetings. The earliest rate hike might be at the December 13, 2017 FOMC meeting, but even that has a less than 50{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} probability as of today. I’ll update those probabilities using my proprietary models in the weeks and months ahead.

The white flag of surrender came in two public comments by two of the only four FOMC members whose opinions really count. The four voting members of the FOMC worth listening to are Janet Yellen, Stan Fischer, Bill Dudley and Lael Brainard.

Vladimir Putin and the Hamburg Testament

by Phil Butler, New Eastern Outlook:
Last week the world confirmed, Vladimir Putin may be the last true leader of humankind. How can I say this, you ask? Well, because the insane mainstream media proved it, that’s how. And The Guardian headline reads, “Killer, kleptocrat, genius, spy: the many myths of Vladimir Putin”. Get ready for yet another intellectual mind melt, as “the west” summons every demon to thwart the great Vladimir V. Putin.

A lot has changed in the last couple of weeks. For one thing, CNN unloaded twin six-guns into their own feet when a hidden video cam recorded one of their producers admitting the whole “Russia” narrative is about ratings. Like the cartoon character Yosemite Sam, America’s once venerable cable TV news giant blew the feet off any future possibility they’d be taken serious ever again. And for the globalist lefties who anchored their propaganda to CNN, the same comical high jinx will probably bring down their other famous tabloids, the Washington Post and the New York Times. In all honesty, Stanley Kramer, the man who directed the 1963 epic comedy “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World”, could not have orchestrated a more fitting demise for western mainstream news. Baby Boomers reading this will identify, but for younger readers let me explain.

America’s Public Schools are Government Indoctrination Centers

The following article might strike some of our readers as a bit of a rant. So if you dislike reading rants, then please just skip reading this article.

It Started With a Letter
The impetus for this article was a fairly cogent well-intentioned letter from a SurvivalBlog reader:

Dear Editor:
I am concerned about some of the information linked on your blog. I’m a Christian, an avid prepper, and a daily reader of your blog. I support your effort to make readers aware of the world around us, and the changes that we feel are to come. I do have concerns when it comes to the negative portrayal of public schools. It is easy to stereotype groups of people, but not always an accurate way of looking at them. There are individuals who believe those of us who read your blog are crazy. We are all unshaven, dirty, live in underground bunkers, wear aluminum foil hats, and hold our illegal firearms as we talk to ourselves. Is this accurate? No, it is not.

What Could Possibly Go Wrong When Google Releases Millions of “Lab-Made” Mosquitos in Fresno?

1

by Daisy Luther, Freedom OutPost:
Wolbachia virus is harmless to humans, male mosquitos don’t bite, and whether Fresno residents like it or not, they’ll be subject to the release of a million of these franken-mosquitoes per week for the next 20 weeks.

The project, which has already rather quietly begun, is turning the area into a test facility without the consent of residents. Trucks will be driving through the city releasing swarms of millions of infected male mosquitos in Fresno.

Verily says:

For the Debug team at Verily, moving our work from the laboratory to the field is not only an important milestone for our group of biologists, engineers, and automation experts, but it’s also a critical step in bringing our long-term vision to reality. Field studies allow us to test our discoveries and technologies in challenging, real-world conditions and collect the necessary evidence to bring them to a broader scale. We hope to demonstrate success with Debug Fresno that will benefit the local communities working with us on this study and later other communities globally where Zika, dengue, and chikungunya are endemic. We are excited to take the first step in that journey today by bringing these technologies to the field. (source)

The Fed May Show Trump No Love

by Peter Schiff, Euro Pacific Capital:
Typically, U.S. Presidents are wary of claiming stock market performance as a referendum on their success. Most have seemed to understand that taking credit also means accepting blame, and no one would want to make the tortured argument that the positive moves reflect well on their presidency but that the negative moves do not. But Donald Trump has shown no reluctance to make any argument that suits his political purpose of the day, no matter its absurdity, and no matter if he has to contradict the arguments he made last year, or last week. Perhaps he assumes, as most investors seem to, that the risks are minimal because the Federal Reserve will jump in to save the markets if things turn bad. But in binding his performance so closely to the markets he overlooks the possibility that the Fed will be far less charitable to him than it was to Obama.

The Federal Reserve’s Quantitative Easing program, which lasted from the end of 2008 to October 2014, was specifically intended to push up asset prices by lowering long-term interest rates and reducing financial risk. This provides a good explanation why the stock market gained nearly 200{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} from the bottom in March 2009 to October 2014 despite the fact that the U.S. economy persistently performed below expectations during that time.

The Reign of Propaganda

1

by Paul Craig Roberts, Paul Craig Roberts:
If truth has a chance it is in a different country than America.

Masters of propaganda from its inventor, Jewish public relations expert Edward Louis James Bernays, to the Nazi Minister of Propaganda Paul Joseph Goebbels, agree that a lie can be turned into truth by constant repetition.

The more pure the lie, the more complete the success in turning it into The Truth. Lies partly based in fact or half-truths open themselves to factual challenge. For a propagandist the best lie is a lie unfettered by even a distant relationship to truth. Such a lie can be turned into such self-evident truth that no evidence is necessary. As Nikki Haley and Hillary Clinton put it: “Evidence! We don’t need any stinking evidence. We know Russia hacked our election!”

Did the City of London Just Press the Panic Button on Brexit?

by Don Quijones, Wolf Street:
Oh the irony: EU capitals are trying to attract the very institutions that caused some of the worst financial scandals of the last ten years.

In a sign of growing desperation, the City of London Corporation, the enigmatic city within the city that serves as the ultimate bastion of privilege in the UK, is now trying to appeal to brute populist sentiment to defend its position as the world’s most important financial center.

In a memo to the British Treasury, MPs, and financial institutions, the City’s Brexit envoy to the EU, Jeremy Browne, bemoaned that the French are pushing for the most damaging Brexit possible, even if France doesn’t directly benefit. The memo was duly leaked to one of the UK’s most anti-EU newspapers, The Daily Mail:

Cell Phones Are About To Become More Powerful Than You Could Imagine

by Josie Wales, Activist Post:
Many people don’t realize that some of the most significant technological breakthroughs in recent years, like voice and facial recognition software, autonomous driving systems, and image recognition software, have not actually been designed by humans, but by computers. All of these advanced software programs have been the result of neural networks, popularly referred to as “deep learning.”

Neural networks are modeled loosely after the human brain and learn like them in similar ways by processing large amounts of data, along with algorithms fed to the networks by programmers. A neural net is then able to teach itself to perform tasks by analyzing the training data. “You essentially have software writing software,” says Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO of graphics processing leader Nvidia.
