Cody Wilson’s Ghost Gun-inspiring company, Defense Distributed, is seeking to have its day in court through a suit with the State Department. The suit has to do with efforts by the government to regulate 3-D printed guns.

The government has shut down Defense Distributed for its efforts to share 3D printing plans with people who can then build 3D Printed guns themselves. To be sure, Cody Wilson knows full well there are plenty of ways to share these files outside of the purview of the government, but Wilson appears to be using this case for two reasons:

One is to attempt to bring light of day cover to the proliferation of sharing effective 3D Printing Gun plans with people, encouraging the creation of more ghost guns by more people,
The other is to show – if the rulings don’t ultimately go in their favor – just where the coercive enterprise, the state, stands regarding the sharing of ideas that it deems too dangerous to be shared.

Defense Distributed is contending that the State Department has no right to stop it from spreading these plans on the internet, as the plans do not in any way help people break the law (since it is not illegal in America for people to make their own guns, so long as they are only making them for personal use).

They have been joined by an organization called the Second Amendment Foundation, a gun rights advocacy group. The two entities are seeking an immediate injunction that would remove the ban on spreading the files which the State Department contends are in violation of International Traffic in Arms Regulations. The argument is the files will be shared to entities in other nations where home gun manufacturing is illegal.

On January 5, Defense Distributed and the Second Amendment Foundation filed with the Supreme Court seeking an immediate injunction.

The State Department contends that the question of the merits of the suit (the very legality of the action by the government) is not relevant; that the only question to ask is if there is an immediate need for an injunction from Defense Distributed.

Defense Distributed and the Second Amendment Foundation argue that the precedent for considering the merits of the case when weighing whether an injunction should or should not be granted is well set, and that the lower courts erred by not considering that issue at all.

If the Supreme Court does not consider the case, then the injunction will remain while the merits of the case are being decided. The case, on that front, is being considered in Texas District court, but promises to eventually land in the lap – once again – of the Supreme Court who will have to fully address the merits of the case at that time.

Remington TAC-14 Shotgun

By request, from our own Jim Rawles, we are taking a close look at the Remington TAC-14 shotgun.

Unique in Barrel Length

Something a little unique about the Remington TAC-14 shotgun is the barrel length of only 14 inches. Normally, this would be considered an NFA firearm and you’d have to jump through all the red tape and hoops in order to own one. However, Remington cleverly got around this in a number of ways. First of all, there is the overall length of 26.3-inches. Secondly, the very unique Raptor Pistol Grip gives the TAC-14 the much needed few more inches so this isn’t considered a “sawed-off shotgun” that we’ve all heard about.

Shotgun For Home Defense

I used to advocate a short barrel (18 inch) shotgun as the ultimate in home defense, and that is still true, in a few cases, but it’s not the best choice. When I was teaching SWAT techniques to small police departments, they all had “riot shotguns”. And when trying to maneuver through narrow hallways in a house or a business, the shotgun proved cumbersome and hard to work with. It was not quite what you want when a threat is around every corner or in every room. Next time, try taking your home-defense shotgun through your house and walking through narrow hallways or small rooms. See just how fast you can bring the shotgun up and ready to fire, and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

Twelve or Twenty Gauge and Various Loads

Of course, then we have to discuss if you want a 12-gauge or 20-gauge shotgun for home defense. Both will sure deafen you when fired indoors, and then we have the recoil. There is no way around the law of physics. There is going to be serious recoil. We have to discuss if you have your shotgun loaded with 00 Buckshot, 000 Buckshot, or some other target or bird loads. For my money, you need to have the shotgun stoked with at least 00 Buckshot to get the job done.

Remington TAC-14 Options

The Remington TAC-14 is available in either 12 or 20 gauge, and both come with that short 14-inch barrel and hold 4+1 rounds of shotgun ammo. That’s if you keep a round in the chamber; otherwise, you have four rounds in the magazine tube. The barrel is cylinder bore, for the widest pattern. I don’t know if that is ideal for close quarters shooting inside of your home or not. The barrel has the typical bead front sight, as found on most shotguns; however, you could mount a red dot sight on it, but that makes shooting difficult if you pull the gun up to eye level with the Raptor pistol grip. Ugh!

Forend, Receiver, and Pistol Grip

The forend on the TAC-14 is by MagPul, and it’s their M-Lock forend, which is a good choice. The receiver is black oxide coated, and as mentioned, the overall length of the TAC-14 is 26.3 inches. The Raptor Pistol Grip is worth mentioning. It isn’t a typical pistol-gripped shotgun grip. It isn’t mounted at 90-degrees; instead, to bring the length into the legal parameters, this Raptor Pistol Grip extends rearward, and only at a shallow downward angle.

Pistol Grips and Dealing With Recoil

In the past, I’ve owned and tested a number of 18-inch barreled shotguns with the traditional pistol grip instead of a full stock, and they were no fun to shoot. They were extremely hard on the wrist. The Raptor Pistol Grip on the TAC-14 is all that more difficult to hold on to, and it obviously is named after the Raptor dinosaur. It lets you know just how mean this shotgun is to shoot, no matter how big and strong you are. My shooting partner for this test is 6’5” tall and very strong, and even he didn’t find the TAC-14 much fun to shoot, and the same goes for me.

As with all Remington shotguns, the dual-action slide bars were smooth and easy to pump the next round into the chamber. Also, ejection was sure and never failed. Remington is famous for smooth action pump shotguns. They always have been, so that’s a positive aspect of the TAC-14. Neither myself or my shooting buddy raised the TAC-14 to eye level to aim. This gun isn’t designed for that. It is meant for close-in fighting. So, the gun was fired from the waist as well as bringing it up next to distance between the belly and lungs, with the gun on the side of the body, still not aimed.

Bird Shot

We used everything from target loads to heavier bird shot, and, of course, 00 Buckshot loads. The TAC-14 was not comfortable or fun to shoot in the least. We had a few people stop by and want to fire this shotgun, and with most it only took one or two rounds before they were done; the recoil is harsh and very hard on the wrist. An extremely strong hold on the Raptor Pistol Grip is an absolute must, period!

Target Testing

We set targets out from 25 feet to 20 yards, and the short cylinder bore barrel didn’t let us down. While it spread out the hits on the targets, it didn’t open up nearly as much as we thought it would. Still, out to 20 yards, some of the 00 Buckshot was off the kill-zone of the target. Of course, when firing indoors, your shot pattern will be much tighter. That’s a good thing.

Personally, I’m not sure where the Remington TAC-14 fits into my firearms battery. The gun tested was not mine, nor would I purchase one. I can see many people purchasing one for the sheer novelty of owning a “sawed-off shotgun” and having the ability to show it off to their friends, and of course, take them out to run a few rounds through it, just to see the expression on their faces from the recoil and to watch them complain about the recoil on their wrist. The TAC-14 would not be my first, second, or third choice to reach for when something goes bang in the night in my house. I much prefer something that I can aim, has less recoil, and is easier to walk though my house with.

TAC-14 Owners

I’m sure some of our more macho readers, who own the TAC-14, will probably flood our comments section with their bravado about how they can fire their TAC-14 all day long without any problems. All I can say is, they are a better man than I am and better than some of the other testers who fired a round or two out of the TAC-14 we tested. The overall opinion by everyone was that the TAC-14 was “fun”, in a sorted twisted way, to fire. No one expressed any desire to rush right out and purchase one for their own use though.

A Different Kind of Remington Shotgun

Of course, being a Remington shotgun, it pains me to give this particular type of shotgun two thumbs down, or maybe one and a half thumbs down. While I’m sure many will rush out and buy one, just because it is a bit different, is something akin to a “sawed-off shotgun”, and it will make a nice conversation piece, I don’t think they will be running a lot of ammo through their new toy. And, I can think of a lot of other firearms that I’d reach for when things go bump in the middle of the night. Needless to say, the quality is there, because this TAC-14 is made by Remington. I’m guessing they will sell a lot of them, and that’s not a bad thing.

Undeniable Proof That the UN Is Here to Take Our Guns

I certainly do not have a crystal ball, but I am an historical expert on how tyranny comes to power. I have studied the emergence of every tyrannical government in the 20th Century and they ALL have certain things in common.

As I stated in an earlier part of this series, Obama was to be the setup man in which he was to erase as many civil liberties as possible. His mission was to push America to the edge of destruction (e.g. Obamacare) and then the ruthless Hillary Clinton was to be the closer and complete the job. The intended Deep State one-two punch of Obama and Clinton followed the traditional roll-out of all tyrannical governments.

How a Tyrannical Government Emerges

There are some small variations, but ultimately, all despotic governments come to power in much the same way.

They all begin as a shadow government and when their purposes cannot be met through covert means, they emerge with a vengeance. For example, Hitler, Mao and Stalin all masqueraded as champions of the people (i.e. “The People’s Republic of ….”).
To come to power they ALL create a false flag attack, or they create the perception of extreme danger (i.e. psychological false flag attack) that poses a grave danger to the public which must be met with extreme prejudice. Subsequently, for the safety of all, guns must be seized. Of course this is a deception because the people are being disarmed so they cannot defend themselves for what is coming. The University of Hawaii conducted a study called the Demicide Project and what they found was that there were 19 genocides in the 20th Century and that all of them were preceded by gun confiscation.
People who are dangerous to the existing order are rounded up and millions are exterminated because they are believed to be a threat to the new order.

The Failures of the Obama Administration

It is clear that Obama had three primary missions when he came to power, namely, erase the Constitution, destroy the economy and disarm the people so they could not defend themselves when enough citizens would awake to the tyranny that they were living under.

Obama succeeded in all of his Deep State mandates except for one. He was never able to pry the guns from American hands. From 2010-2012, became the false flag President. Despite all of the false flags that took place during that time, very little progress was made in the effort to disarm the people. Why was Obama so intent on disarming America? The answer is simple, his handler knew that much of the country, tens of millions to be exact, would never accept a repressive communist government. To accomplish this goal the people had to be disarmed. Obama failed in this Deep State mandate.

Subsequently, Obama had to turn to Plan B to neutralize an armed populace. Obama became the first President to bring Russian soldiers to America. The Russians would be permanently embedded under false pretenses and then would emerge at the right time when America was in rebellion. I have literally written dozens of articles on this development. Here is an example from one in 37 articles I have authored on this subject which are available through the search engine on this site:

Because the Obama administration has been caught bringing in the Russians, these traitors were forced to invent a cover story. Subsequently, the administration announced the creation of a series of extra-constitutional “agreements”(that means illegal agreements) which justified the presence of Russian soldiers on American soil. These agreements were inked in June of 2013 in Washington, D.C., at the fourth annual meeting which led to the illegally created “U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission Working Group on Emergency Situations.” This extra-governmental organization, formed under the Obama administration, is one of almost two dozen similar “working groups” bringing together top U.S. and Russian officials. These two bodies are cooperating on everything from the drug war and agriculture to terror, science, “rule of law” (could that be code for martial law?), health, environment, energy, nuclear issues, education, culture, media, business, arms control, and more, according to the U.S. State Department. The Senate has not ratified any of the international deals, as required by the Constitution of the United States. And as such, this is an illegal agreement. However, this is not just an illegal agreement, IT CONSTITUTES TREASON AGAINST THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

The United Nations

I could fill a book with examples of UN/Foreign troops on American soil. The abovementioned three examples are merely prepatory background material in order to lay the groundwork for the latest example of UN/Foreign troops on American soil.

Obama had to bring in the Russians to be poised as part of the UN Peacekeeping force that would make its presence known in times of strife.

George Soros has tried to create the sufficient strife that would involve the need to quell civil insurrection. However, that has not happened. Therefore, one must be manufactured.

As Russian, Chinese and other foreign troops embed themselves in our country awaiting the need for them to emerge to subdue a population in rebellion against Deep State tyranny, the foreign troops would be called upon “to deal with American traitors” to the New World Order. Even the MSM recognizes this fact as evidenced by the recent news release from Fox News:

“UNITED NATIONS – The United States is announcing its support for a set of principles that give a green light for U.N. peacekeeping troops and police to use force to protect civilians in armed conflicts.

U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power told a high-level U.N. meeting Wednesday focusing on the responsibility to protect civilians that the United States was “proud” and “humbled” to join 28 other countries that have pledged to abide by the 18 pledges.

U.N. peacekeepers from these 29 countries are now required to act in cases where civilians are in danger.

“The Kigali Principles are designed to make sure that civilians are not abandoned by the international community again,” she said, recalling how U.N. peacekeepers left Rwanda before the 1994 genocide and Srebrenica before the 1995 massacre.”

2018 Gun Legislation You Must Keep Your Eyes On

There are several items that Americans should keep their eyes on in 2018, and they each have to do with the rights of gun owners.

Awr Hawkins of Breitbart News listed four things that were begun in 2017 but failed to succeed. I’ll list them and comment on each one.

National Reciprocity—National reciprocity for concealed carry passed the House on December 6, 2017. It was introduced by Rep. Richard Hudson (R-NC) on January 3, 2017, then sat idly until conservatives were able to overcome Speaker Paul Ryan’s (R-WI) stonewalling. Now it has gone to the Senate, where it sat idly throughout December, as Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) busied himself with other things. National reciprocity must be the number one priority in 2018 for supporters of the Second Amendment, as it will fix the cumbersome patchwork of laws that concealed carry permit holders currently face as they travel.

National Reciprocity sounds good, right? It makes a federal law that every state has to recognize every other state’s concealed carry permit. That sounds great, right?

Well, yeah, it sounds good to those who are used to asking the government permission to enjoy and exercise a God-given right protected under the Second Amendment, but that’s just it, isn’t it? Isn’t national reciprocity embedded in the Second Amendment?

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Now, consider that the Second Amendment does not state a limitation on whether you carry open or concealed or have a rifle slung across your back. It says that right “shall not be infringed.” It shouldn’t be infringed by government for money, taking classes, jumping through hoops, background checks or anything else. It is a right given to you by the Creator, not permitted by government.

What many have not thought through is that if this is implemented at the federal level, what will stop the feds from building a database of who has these permits and thus who has guns? Nothing. After all, the argument will be made that DC needs the database to ensure the concealed carry permit holder is legitimate in the state they are from. Sure, there could be a simple check with the state, but you know how DC works.

This actually could be dealt with quite simply by DC repealing any and all gun laws, which it has unconstitutionally written, and enforce the protections of the rights of gun owners on the states that have also flagrantly disregarded the rights of gun owners. As someone has so aptly stated, “The Second Amendment is my concealed carry permit.”

We don’t need to fix “patchwork of laws.” We need to demand that those laws are repealed and the Second Amendment trump those usurpations.

Anyways, that’s the first item.

Repeal of Gun Ban for Military Veterans—On March 16, 2017, the House voted to repeal the gun ban for military veterans. The ban is structured in a manner similar to Barack Obama’s Social Security gun ban inasmuch as it allows bureaucrats to flag military disability recipients who require help with their finances. Those flagged recipients are then turned over to the National Instance Criminal Background Check System (NICS) and barred from purchasing firearms for self-defense. Although the House voted to repeal the ban, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his colleagues never took up the measure for a vote.

The Gun Bill That Is Going Through Congress Could Significantly Increase The Number Of Americans Banned From Buying Guns

When news that a “concealed-carry reciprocity law” had been passed by the U.S. House of Representatives, gun owners all over the nation rejoiced. But what most people didn’t realize is that there had been a last minute change to the bill that could substantially increase the number of Americans that are banned from buying guns. This poison pill completely ruins the bill, and it must be voted down. What we need is a clean “concealed-carry reciprocity bill” that does not include “Fix-NICS” in it.

Let’s start at the beginning. Last week, gun owners were elated when the House passed a bill that would enable them “to legally carry concealed weapons across state lines”…

Republicans rammed a bill through the House on Wednesday that would make it easier for gun owners to legally carry concealed weapons across state lines, the first significant action on guns in Congress since mass shootings in Nevada and Texas killed more than 80 people.

The House approved the bill, 231-198, largely along party lines. Six Democrats voted yes, while 14 Republicans voted no.

The measure would allow gun owners with a state-issued concealed-carry permit to carry a handgun in any state that allows concealed weapons. It now goes to the Senate.

It would be easy to assume that since virtually every single Republican voted for this bill that it must be a good thing.

But it turns out that a change was inserted into the bill at the last moment that many lawmakers never read. According to Fox News, the bill “contained an 11th-hour change to help states and agencies enter such data as criminal and domestic-violence convictions into the National Instant Criminal Background Check System for gun purchases”.

A few member of the House immediately figured out what was going on and decided to vote against the bill. One of them was U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert…

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) explained on Wednesday that he could not support national reciprocity because House Leadership added the gun control expansions of “Fix-NICS” to it.

“Fix-NICS” is a measure Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Chris Murphy (D-CT), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), and John Cornyn (R-TX) support. It responds to the Air Force’s failure to report Devin Kelley’s criminal history by expanding the number of people who will be barred from gun possession going forward.

So exactly how many people could be “barred from gun possession going forward”?

Well, according to Gun Owners Of America, even people with “unpaid traffic tickets” could be banned from owning guns under this bill…

The goal of the Cornyn-Feinstein-Murphy-Schumer bill is to force every single potential NICS name to be sent to the FBI’s NICS system.

It was prompted by reports that the Air Force did not send the name of the Sutherland Springs shooter to NICS — even though he certainly could have gotten a firearm in a wide variety of ways, even if he had been in NICS, and even though his carnage was stopped by the real solution to violence … a good guy with a gun.

The problem is that, because of this isolated horror story, the Cornyn bill could add the names of millions of additional law-abiding Americans to NICS.

You already know of the 257,000 veterans who have lost their rights because of a bad experience in Iraq.

You already know that 95% of NICS denials are “false positives.”

And you probably also know that “Fix NICS” would require that the rolls of Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, CHIP, and ObamaCare be trolled for recipients with PTSD, ADHD, or Alzheimer’s — that is, people who have had guardians appointed.

What you may not know is that the SECOND LARGEST CATEGORY of prohibited persons is “fugitives from justice” — and that a good portion of these are Americans who have UNPAID TRAFFIC TICKETS.

House Committee Advances Legislation Allowing Concealed Guns In All 50 States

Though it was mostly overlooked amid the Senate’s crucial procedural vote on tax reform, the House Judiciary Committee late yesterday voted 19-11 in favor of a highly controversial bill, dubbed the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, which would amend the federal criminal code to allow the concealed transport of handguns across state lines, so long as both states allow it. If passed, the bill would prevent states from imposing their individual requirements for a concealed carry license on armed travelers from other states. Here’s a summary of the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017:

This bill amends the federal criminal code to allow a qualified individual to carry a concealed handgun into or possess a concealed handgun in another state that allows individuals to carry concealed firearms.

A qualified individual must: (1) be eligible to possess, transport, or receive a firearm under federal law; (2) carry a valid photo identification document; and (3) carry a valid concealed carry permit issued by, or be eligible to carry a concealed firearm in, his or her state of residence.

Additionally, the bill specifies that a qualified individual who lawfully carries or possesses a concealed handgun in another state: (1) is not subject to the federal prohibition on possessing a firearm in a school zone, and (2) may carry or possess the concealed handgun in federally owned lands that are open to the public.

As Bloomberg points out, the National Rifle Association has called the concealed carry bill, which would make it easier for gun owners to keep their firearms hidden when crossing state lines, its “highest legislative priority in Congress.” Despite concerns raised by Democrats about states’ rights and domestic violence, the Republican-controlled Congress has pushed the proposal one step closer to becoming law.

Of course, Trump openly courted NRA members during the 2016 election cycle and vowed in a speech to the NRA earlier this year: “you came through for me, and I am going to come through for you.” Here is a portion of Trump’s speech transcript courtesy of Newsweek:

With your activism, you helped to safeguard the freedoms of our soldiers who have bled and died for us on the battlefields. And I know we have many veterans in the audience today, and we want to give them a big, big beautiful round of applause.

But we have news that you’ve been waiting for for a long time: The eight-year assault on your Second Amendment freedoms has come to a crashing end. You have a true friend and champion in the White House. No longer will federal agencies be coming after law-abiding gun owners. No longer will the government be trying to undermine your rights and your freedoms as Americans. Instead, we will work with you, by your side. We will work with the NRA to promote responsible gun ownership, to protect our wonderful hunters and their access to the very beautiful outdoors. You met my son—I can tell you, both sons, they love the outdoors. Frankly, I think they love the outdoors more than they love, by a long shot, Fifth Avenue. But that’s okay. And we want to ensure you of the sacred right of self-defense for all of our citizens.

Not surprisingly, the bill has drawn harsh criticism from the Left which argues that it effectively neuters the laws of individual states and turns the most lax state laws into federal laws…

The bill has found its fair share of detractors as well, including New York Police Department Commissioner James O’Neill. “I don’t think there is any reason for anybody to bring a gun into New York City,” O’Neill said in an interview earlier this year. “We don’t need any more guns.” Historically, many firearms used in killings in more highly regulated northeastern states originate in southern and western states with fewer or no gun restrictions.

Moms Demand Action, a gun control group that attended Wednesday’s hearing, has also attacked the bill, arguing it “is a chaotic and dangerous policy that would gut every state’s gun laws and make our communities less safe.”

The group argues that the bill “would effectively turn the weakest state’s laws into nationwide laws” because conceal carry laws vary state by state. For example, convicted stalkers are banned from concealed carry in some states, but not all, and the age for concealed carry also varies. In the event the bill passes, a Georgia permit, a state that allows abusive partners to carry hidden firearms, would become effective in New York, a state that currently doesn’t recognize any other state’s conceal carry permits.

Responding to Republicans during the hearing, Representative Jerrold Nadler, a Democrat from New York, said he “strongly opposed” the bill and argued it would override state’s rights, a traditional policy priority for Republicans. “Public safety would suffer if we were to unwisely adopt this legislation,” he added.

Government Begins Gun Confiscation: “Surrender Your Firearms”

Oh, look how government trades the use of something that grows in nature for your rights to keep and bear arms that “shall not be infringed.”

Yep, is the liberal State of Hawaii that is going after users of cannabis.

The Honolulu Police Department has issued an order for medical marijuana users to “surrender your firearms.”

Not only is this is a violation of the Fifth Amendment’s protections, but since when did cops get to make such a decision?

KITV reports, “In a letter dated November 13th new Chief of police Susan Ballard states card-holders have 30 days to surrender weapons, permits, and ammunition to HPD or to transfer ownership. According to the letter, the only way card-holders can get their weapons back is to get clearance from their doctors.”

According to the Honolulu Star, the letter claims, “Your medical marijuana use disqualifies you from ownership of firearms and ammunition.”

Ballard cites Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 134-7 (a) as the reason for the move. That section reads: “No person who is a fugitive from justice or is a person prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law shall own, possess, or control any firearm or ammunition therefore.”

Interesting since people using medical marijuana would be able to do so under law even though “law” should have no governance over a plant in the first place.

Furthermore, these people do not necessarily qualify as a “prohibited” person since Ballard cannot point to a law in which they are in violation of nor can she point to a conviction, something the Fifth Amendment demands before one can lose their rights.

Leafly commented that the letters appear to represent “the first time a law enforcement agency has proactively sought out state-registered medical marijuana patients and ordered them to surrender their guns.”

The letter claimed “a medical doctor’s clearance letter is required for any future firearms applications or returns of firearms from HPD evidence.”

U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled that a ban on gun ownership for medical marijuana users is constitutional.

According to the court, marijuana use remains illegal on the federal level, even if a state exercises the 10th Amendment against the DC beast, but they fail to argue from a position of the Fifth Amendment’s protections regarding this.

Enough Guns Sold On Black Friday To Outfit Marine Corps Once Again

Guns really are a key part of the fabric of American life. They’re so much a part of it that on Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year when people mob stores for the best deals on televisions and other consumer electronics, Americans bought enough guns to equip the United States Marine Corps.

According to the FBI, over 200,000 background check requests associated with the purchase of a firearm were submitted to the agency on Black Friday, marking a new single-day record. The previous record was set on the day after Thanksgiving in 2016. In both 2017 and 2016, enough guns were potentially purchased on Black Friday to arm every active duty Marine.

USA Today reported that, in total, the FBI states they fielded 203,086 requests during the 24-hour period associated with Black Friday, decimating the previous 2016 record of 185,713.

The background checks are required for firearms purchases from federally licensed dealers, so the number does not necessarily reflect the actual number of sales that took place.

In some cases, a single background check could be associated with more than one gun purchase if a shopper decided to buy more than one during a single trip. Additionally, not all who apply are ultimately approved, so some applications would not result in a purchase.

It’s also worth noting that 20 states have provisions where a background check isn’t necessary with a valid concealed carry permit. This is guidelines from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives who note that permit holders have already undergone an extensive background check and lose their permits if they become ineligible to buy guns.

Upset Gun Grabbers

While gun grabbers are undoubtedly furious over these numbers, it’s not really surprising. The recent push for gun control by gun control-loving liberal politicians has many concerned about the future of their firearms. Whenever that happens, gun sales surge.

The truth is, Americans tend to frown on people telling them they can’t or shouldn’t do something they want to do. Doing so only encourages them to go ahead and do pull the trigger, so to speak. They will invariably proceed to do the very thing the elites don’t want them doing.

There’s a reason gun sales were so massive during the Obama administration. Even though he said he knew he didn’t have the votes for gun control during the campaign, we all knew that he wanted to disarm the American public. In fact, simply by saying he didn’t have the votes he gave away his clear intention. After all, you only worry about the votes when you’re talking about something you want to do.

You’ve chosen a new gun but are you ready to use it?

We have talked about the things you need to consider when buying a firearm and choosing the gun that will be right for you, but there are other decisions once you’ve made your purchase.

If this is your first firearm, chances are, you’re NOT ready yet. There is a lot more to protecting yourself with a gun than simply getting one and figuring out how to load it. Today, Steve Candidus and I will talk about getting ready to use your gun.

There are several things to think about – everything from storing it safely to having it with you when you need it to training and practice.

Storing Your Firearm Safely – Daisy

The way you choose to store your gun depends a lot on your personal situation.

For example, if you live alone and never have children visiting, you may want to tuck the firearm in a nightstand drawer. Be careful though – you want it to be stored in a way that you can easily get to it without potentially discharging it accidentally.

If you have children in the house, you will want to be more careful about how you store your gun. There are all sorts of safes that you can access fairly quickly if necessary. One parent I know locks her gun up during the day and pulls it out each night to keep it at her bedside.

Some people really like biometric safes that use your fingerprint to allow you to access the contents. Others point out significant downsides to the reliability of a biometric safe. The more high-end you go with a biometric safe, the less likely you are to have issues. I have a safe like this and it totally lost its programming after a year. Fortunately, I only had ammo in it at the time, but I was no longer able to open it with the touch of a finger, something that would be disastrous in an emergency.

Keeping your gun on your person during the day is probably the very safest way to store a firearm. Someone else accidentally getting their hands on it is nearly impossible this way. (We’ll discuss holsters in a moment.) Only you can figure out the method of storing your gun that is safest for your family. Here are 6 tips from NRA Family for safely storing your gun.

Having your gun with you when you need it

Your gun won’t do you any good if you don’t have it with you when you need it. Following are some tips for concealed carry.

What kind of holster should you get? – Steve

Side holsters are available in both an outside of the pants and an inside the pants configuration. They are secured to your belt either by loops that your belt goes through or by clamps that can be quickly attached to your belt.

One consideration is whether or not you want what’s called a back tab on them. The tab is an extension of the holster that keeps the gun from digging into you. The drawback is that it makes the holster and gun a little bulkier. It’s up to each person what you prefer.

Side holsters come in a high configuration and low. High is easier to conceal, but might dig into your sides a bit more and be a little more awkward to draw from the holster. The high holster is also more comfortable when sitting. Inside-the-pants holsters are the easiest to conceal but can be uncomfortable for some.

You might also see a reference to a side holsters rake. That’s the angle that the gun takes in the holster. A lower rake is more horizontal and makes for a faster draw. Again, the drawback is that it is less secure.

Small Of Back (SOB) holsters are another outside of the pants option. As its name suggests these holsters are attached to your belt and rest in the natural hollow that nature has provided us in the small of our backs.

21 New Gun Control Measures Now Being Advanced By Democrats In DC

It really is so predictable how the criminally minded operate when it comes to being servants of the people and a mass shooting takes place.

The gun grabbing Democrats and the establishment RINOS are all too willing to violate the Second Amendment and your God-given rights to make it appear that they are doing something to stop such crimes when the reality is that they are doing nothing to stop them.

Following the Las Vegas shooting, we heard the un-American notions of Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) call for bans on bump stocks, which she acknowledged the very next day would have done nothing to stop the Vegas shooting and furthermore, would not stop anyone from bump firing a semi-automatic rifle.

However, since that time, Democrats have put forth a blitz attack on the Second Amendment and the rights of the people with 21 new measures to rob you of your rights.

On October 11, just a week and a half after the Vegas shooting, Democrats in DC put forward these 9 bills.

Ban on Bump Stocks – Sen. Dianne Feinstein is pushing this with her Automatic Fire Prevention Act. She admits that bump stocks are an accessory—that they do not convert semiautomatics into automatics—but she wants to ban them anyway. Her bill explicitly bans any accessory that allows an increase in rate of fire in short bursts but does “not convert the semiautomatic rifle into a machine gun.”
Ban on Trigger Cranks – Sen. Feinstein’s bill bans trigger cranks too. Like the bump stock, trigger cranks are another novelty that gun owners can use to achieve short, rapid bursts of fire. Such cranks allow a gun owner to mimic automatic fire yet do not convert a semiautomatic gun into an automatic one.
Ban on Semiautomatic firearms – Sen. Feinstein voiced support for this ban during her appearance on Face the Nation, and the Washington Post pushed for such a ban two days later.
Implementation of Universal Background Checks – Sen. Chris Murphy used his appearance on State of the Union to stress that a bump stock ban is only the beginning for Democrats. They plan to follow that ban with the implementation of universal background checks, which means private gun sales would require a background check just like retail sales. Democrats claim these checks would save lives, yet Sen. Murphy and others ignore the fact that the Vegas attacker purchased his guns via background checks, as did so many attackers before him. The real reason Democrats want universal background checks is because such checks require a gun registry to be enforceable. Therefore, the implementation of such checks would immediately lead to one more gun control: a gun registry.
Ban on “Assault Weapons” – Sen. Murphy also mentioned an “assault weapons” ban, suggesting it would be next in line after background checks. The Los Angeles Times called for an “assault weapons” ban as well.
Ban on “High Capacity” Magazines – The Los Angeles Times also called for a ban on “high capacity” magazines, describing them as one of the most dangerous aspects of “assault weapons.” The Times points to attacks like ones on Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, and the San Bernardino County Building as justifications for an “assault weapons” ban that contains a “high capacity” magazine ban. In so doing, the Times overlooks the fact that all three attacks—Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, and San Bernardino—occurred in gun-free zones. This means the attackers had no threat of armed response and could take their time, reloading as often as needed. In such scenarios magazine capacity is a moot issue.
Opposition to Concealed Carry – Breitbart News reported that Sen. Feinstein took time to argue against concealed carry for law-abiding citizens during her Face the Nation appearance. Speaking of concealed carry she said, “I don’t believe it’s protected by the Constitution.”
Opposition to National Reciprocity – Sen. Feinstein also voiced opposition to the national reciprocity legislation currently pending before Congress. She said, “Well, my opinion of that bill is it’s terrible. … [Do] we want every American to feel comfortable packing a concealed weapon around the country?”
Australian-style Gun Ban – On Tuesday the Washington Post suggested it is time for such a ban.

Again, not one of these would stop a mass shooting, but don’t take my word for it. Take Senator Feinstein’s.

Awr Hawkins has updated the list of attacks on the Second Amendment to include 12 more bills from DC Democrats. He writes:

Numerous others have flooded in since the introduction of those original nine. The newest suggested controls include regulation on single shot muzzleloaders. In fact, Gabby Giffords gun control group suggests muzzleloaders could be the next bump stock. Her group also wants gun control on “high capacity shotguns,” binary triggers, “AK and AR style pistols,” arm braces for AR style pistols, “AR pistol blade stabilizers,” .50 caliber rifles, .50 caliber ammunition, and tracer rounds for various calibers of firearms.

Giffords’ group seeks to substantiate their call for a ban on tracer rounds by writing, “Tracer rounds allow a shooter to see where rounds are tracking at night.”

Two other gun controls are being pushed by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). The first of the two is a federal ban on firearms trafficking. She is pushing this ban although such trafficking is already clearly prohibited via ATF background check form 4473. LIBN reports that Gillibrand is also again pushing the Hadiya Pendleton and Nyasia Pryear-Yard Gun Trafficking & Crime Prevention Act, which “would make it illegal to sell purchase, or transfer two or more firearms to someone whom the seller knows, or has reasonable cause to know, is a felon or convicted domestic abuser.”

Lastly, the 21st gun control currently being pushed is regulation on so-called “ghost guns.” These are guns that are legal to manufacture at home, but require a significant amount of know-how and equipment to accomplish. The establishment media is currently pointed to two crimes committed with “ghost guns” as justification for a new federal law to regulate the sale, manufacture of the firearms.

WOMAN SHOOTS, KILLS ARMED ROBBER IN BURGLARY GONE AWRY

Criminal gunned down in botched robbery attempt

Police in Phoenix, Arizona, say an armed resident shot and killed a suspected burglar after he forced his way into her home Tuesday.

The victim, identified only as a female, was witnessed being grabbed by the 34-year-old suspect as she attempted to enter her home.

The armed man later fled the home after being shot by the resident and died in a local hospital.

PHOENIX – A suspect is dead after an attempted armed robbery in Phoenix.

Phoenix police said officers responded to a home near 7th Street and Union Hills Drive at 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday after witnesses reported that a suspect grabbed a woman.

According to police, the 34-year-old suspect grabbed the victim as she entered her home. The victim tried to close the door but the suspect attempted to force his way in.

Police said the victim got a handgun and shot at the suspect. The suspect fled from the scene and was located at an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The victim was not injured. The suspect has not been identified.

Semi-Automatic, Revolver, Caliber, Cartridges: What You Need to Know When Buying a Gun

Last week, in the first installment of our series, we talked about some of the things you needed to think about, like how you plan to be using it and some basic definitions. But there’s a lot more to buying a gun that will work well for you than understanding what the words mean.

So, let’s move on to Part 2 of our Monday GunDay guest series by Steve Candidus, who has generously written these articles to make choosing a firearm easier.

What You Need to Know When Buying a Gun

Revolvers vs. Semi-Automatics

Let’s start with an important note – your ammunition is not called bullets – that is what exits the barrel. The complete bullet, powder, and brass or aluminum case, is called a cartridge or round.

Revolvers

A revolver, sometimes called a wheel gun, has a cylinder typically holding five or six rounds. A semi-automatic is flatter in profile and typically holds more ammunition. It fires a bullet each time the trigger is pulled, and extracts and ejects the spent cartridge case from the firing chamber, re-cocks the firing mechanism, and loads a new cartridge into the firing chamber.

Revolvers do not come with a safety. The trigger pull is longer and it takes more effort to fire them and thus acts as a safety – sort of. Revolvers come in sizes ranging from small pocket size guns to large heavy hunting guns. They are a good choice for home defense as their extra weight is actually an advantage. The weight absorbs more of the felt recoil.

They are loaded by releasing the cylinder button to the rear of the cylinder and swinging the cylinder out exposing the cartridges. By pushing on the cylinder rod that is located under the barrel when closed and in the center of the cylinder the rounds will be pushed out.

Cylinders can be reloaded either one at a time or with gadgets called speed loaders. These are plastic devices in the exact dimension of the cartridges in the cylinder and are held in place internally by small clips. By simply dropping the rounds into the cylinder and releasing the hold mechanism (a twist or a push) the entire cylinder is loaded very quickly.

Semi-Automatics

Semi-Automatics, referred to as semi-autos, are thinner in profile and often carry more ammunition than revolvers.

Note that although some refer to them as ‘autos’ they are still not what is called ‘fully automatic’. A fully automatic weapon is classified as a machine gun. Assault weapons fall into this category and regardless of what you may hear or read in the news media, neither is easily accessible to the general public. These types of weapons require only one pull of the trigger to fire all of the rounds that the gun carries. We will not be discussing those types of guns here.

A semi-auto will only fire one bullet with each pull of the trigger.

Ammunition in a semi-automatic is contained in what’s called a magazine. It is a long rectangular enclosure that can be easily inserted and replaced for a quick reload for the gun. The magazine is located inside of the grip and will drop down to remove by pushing a magazine release button located just behind the trigger on the grip. To insert a new one, just push it in until it clicks.

A semi-auto with all of the rounds in the magazine in a single line is called a single stack. Those with alternating lines of ammo are called a double stack. Typically, a gun that will hold eight rounds in a single stack model will hold about fourteen or fifteen when designed as a double stack. These single stack/double stack magazines are not interchangeable. They are specific to the particular gun they were designed for.

Single stack semi-autos are smaller, lighter, thinner, and are usually more comfortable for smaller hands. They are also easier to conceal. You might consider a single stack auto in warm weather when wearing light clothing and a double stack in colder weather with heavier clothing.

Semi-Automatics come with a variety of different types of safety mechanisms called safeties. A passive safety is one that the shooter does not have to activate to set as on or off. The most common type of these look like a split trigger. One part is the firing mechanism and the other is the safety. When you place your finger on the trigger, it will automatically release the safety.

Some semi-autos also come with a grip safety. With a grip safety, the gun is set to safe until you hold it in your hand. That pushes the safety in and to the fire position.

There is also a manual safety on some semi-autos. These are usually located on the slide (that’s the part that moves) and offer an additional measure of safety at the expense of an extra motion that you must remember to initiate before firing.

Regardless of what you ultimately choose, the most important safety on your gun is to remember to NEVER put your index finger on the trigger until you are ready to fire the weapon!!! You might have seen some photos of someone holding a gun with their index finger alongside the barrel. That is where it should be until the exact moment that you intend to fire it.

Lastly, one of the topics that you might hear discussed is whether or not a particular auto has a firing pin. It might seem odd to someone not familiar with guns, but not all guns do. A company called Glock pioneered semi-autos with what are called strikers. They are a simple device and are very reliable. A firing pin is more complex. Both work equally well and your decision need not be based on one or the other. It is simply how the manufacturer designed them so don’t be intimidated by a highly knowledgeable gun person bringing them up. As the shooter you are indifferent.

Metal vs. Polymer

This refers to the material that most of the gun is made of.

Polymer, sometimes referred to as plastic, is a very strong and very light material that is used in constructing the frame (the guns skeleton) and its outside covering. Polymer guns are currently the most popular and because they are made from a mold rather than machined, they can be made with a comfortable and ergonomic grip.

Most polymer guns use a striker mechanism rather than a firing pin (see part 3 Revolvers vs. autos). In order to know whether your auto has a striker or a firing pin you can insert a pencil – eraser end first – into the barrel (making sure that the gun is unloaded first) and pull the trigger. If the pencil shoots up and sometimes even out it has a firing pin. If it barely moves, it has a striker.

Metal guns have an all-metal frame. Some use an aluminum alloy rather than steel to reduce weight, but all will usually be heavier than polymer guns.

The reason that there are more options available for you today for polymer guns than for metal guns is partly because they are lighter, but mostly because they are far less costly to manufacture. For a gun manufacturer, making a polymer gun from a mold is a lot less costly than machining one out of metal.

The barrel and the slide (the top part that moves backward when fired on semi-autos) on all semi-automatics are metal.

Revolvers are usually metal and heavier than semi-automatics.

All About Caliber

Caliber refers to the diameter of the bullet that exits the barrel. It can be a bit confusing too.

For instance, a .45ACP (auto) bullet has a diameter of .451 inches. A .357 magnum has a diameter of .357 inches, but so does a .38 caliber. A 9mm bullet has a diameter of 9.01mm or .355 inches, but so does a .380 auto.

The weight of the bullet is expressed in grains. For instance, a 9mm 115g means that the bullet is 9mm in diameter and it weighs 115 grains.

For personal defense, whether home or carry, the all-time king for stopping power is the .357 magnum. It is only available in revolvers but has the best record of stopping an assailant and in doing so quickly.

Any revolver that is chambered (designed) for .357 magnum will also shoot .38 specials safely. It is not true the other way around. You can NOT fire a .357 magnum round in a gun chambered for .38 special. First of all, it likely will not fit in the cylinder, but a .357 magnum has a lot more energy and would likely damage both the gun and hurt the shooter if they fired a .357 magnum in it.

The same is true for .44 special and .44 magnum.

If you chose a revolver a .357 magnum is a good choice and it can be loaded with the lesser recoiling, but still effective .38 specials or even .38 special +P’s if you can handle the increased recoil.

A ‘+P’ designation means that it is loaded to a higher power level than the standard non +P cartridge with the expected better stopping power and higher recoil.

.44 special and .44 magnum would likely not be a good choice for a new shooter as the weight of the gun and the recoil would both be high.

A few years ago, a new cartridge called .327 Federal magnum was introduced. It has much better stopping power than a .32 auto and has about 25{5f621241b214ad2ec6cd4f506191303eb2f57539ef282de243c880c2b328a528} less felt recoil than its big brother the .357 magnum. It is a very good choice for the beginner that wants to use a revolver. I wish there were more gun choices for them.

For semi-autos, the .45 auto is arguably the king. I say arguably because the full power 10mm semi-auto (.400 inches) is right up there with it albeit with a bit snappier recoil. The tradeoff here is that you usually get at least one extra round of 10mm and better penetration to boot. The 10mm is more like a .357 magnum in a semi-automatic, but its recoil is difficult for the beginner to handle. Smith & Wesson makes a little brother called, not surprisingly, the .40S&W. It is very popular with police departments in the US and is a good choice for personal defense.

The most popular cartridge for automatic handguns is the 9mm. It is sometimes called 9mm Lugar or 9X19. The 19 refers to its case being 19mm long.

It’s the most popular handgun caliber in the world. Ammo is cheap, plentiful and available everywhere and there is probably a larger selection of handguns in 9mm than any other.

If you are planning on a lightweight handgun 115 grain HP’s are a good choice. The best option with a slightly heavier gun or if recoil is not the limiting factor then 124 grain +P’s are best.

The 9mm is not as powerful as the 40S&W or .45ACP, but the same size gun can hold more rounds and its power is more than adequate.

The smallest caliber that should be considered for autos is the .380ACP. Like the 10mm vs 40S&W, it’s the little brother to the 9mm. Note that its stopping power is marginal and many of the guns available for this caliber are not very reliable. That’s not a good thing for a weapon that you might have to depend on for your life, but if that is what you comfortable with and you have a gun that shoots it reliably go for it.

In a pinch, even a 22LR will do. They are small, economic, and recoil is very light. Although dismissed as ‘mouse guns’, don’t dismiss the .22LR. They are used commonly by some of the world’s spy agencies like the Israeli Mossad. You can carry one in an ankle holster or in a purse and hardly even notice that you are carrying it.
