Pope Francis condemned fake news as satanic, stating journalists and social media users should ignore and unmask manipulative “snake tactics” that foster division to serve political and economic interests, Reuters reported.

“Fake news is a sign of intolerant and hypersensitive attitudes and leads only to the spread of arrogance and hatred. That is the end result of untruth,” Francis said.

The Pope writes in the document, called “The truth will set you free — Fake news and journalism for peace,” that spreading fake news can “serve to advance specific goals, influence political decisions, and serve economic interests,” according to the news publication.

He also criticized the “manipulative use of social networks.”

“This false but believable news is ‘captious’, inasmuch as it grasps people’s attention by appealing to stereotypes and common social prejudices, and exploiting instantaneous emotions like anxiety, contempt, anger and frustration,” he said.

He added there is an importance of being able to recognize the “sly and dangerous form of seduction that worms its way into the heart with false and alluring arguments.”

“We need to unmask what could be called the ‘snake-tactics’ used by those (purveyors of fake news) who disguise themselves in order to strike at any time and place,” Francis said.

The Pope previously in 2016 sensationally claimed “that media that focus on scandals and spreading ‘fake news’ to smear politicians risk becoming like the people they have a morbid fascination with excrement.”

Hold on, hold on really you compare reporters holding politicians accountable for their political ties to shady groups, secret societies and potential scandals to eating poop and getting off on it? What?

Yeah we sure did eat a lot of bull sh*t in the past like the Iraq WMDs when the U.S. and U.K. governments colluded to sell the American people fake news that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction to self-investigate Iraq based off forged plagiarized academic papers. It’s also now known thanks to the press that Bush and Blair planned the Iraq invasion a year prior revealed by the emails of Hillary Clinton.

The Las Vegas Police Department’s preliminary report on the 2017 massacre reveals Stephen Paddock was assigned to room 32-135 against his request to be suited in an entirely different wing of the hotel altogether

LAS VEGAS (INTELLIHB) — Based on information contained in the 81-page Force Investigation Team Report, the alleged gunman of the 1 October massacre Stephen Paddock requested a Vista Suite located on a non-specified floor in the southeast wing of Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino before he was internally reassigned, later placed, into room 32-135 against his initial request.

Information listed on page 7 of the report reveals that Paddock had made his room reservation for Vista Suite ending in 235 but not on a specific floor, on or around Sept. 9, 2017.

Such an odd request for someone who is planning on conducting a mass shooting don’t you think? Considering that by not requesting a specific floor one could have been placed on any floor, even a lower-floor which simply would not have got the job done, so to speak. Not to mention, a 235 Vista Suite is located in the southeast wing of the hotel which would have given the a shooter virtually no tactical vantage of the festival to begin with and simply just defies all logic.

On 20 Sept. Paddock was “internally assigned” to room 33-235 by the Mandalay Bay computer system which seemed to suit his request.

A day later, on the 21st, “Paddock was internally assigned to 32-235,” located in the southeast wing of the hotel on the 32nd-floor. This room also suited Paddock’s request and had no tactical vantage over the venue.

On Sept. 24th, one day prior to Paddock’s check-in, he was internally assigned room 32-135 after changes were made in the computer system, yet once again. According to the report, these changes were made in the Mandalay Bay computer system “without Paddock’s knowledge.”

The following excerpt taken from page 7 of the report concludes:

On or around September 9th Paddock made his room reservation for a Vista Suite ending in 235 but not on a specific floor. On September 20th Paddock was internally reassigned to room 33-235. On September 21st Paddock was internally changed to room 32-235. On September 24th Paddock was assigned to room 32-135.

January 26 — In the first weeks of the new year, four inter-related dynamics of the global strategic situation are coming to a head, in a manner which means that, unless the coup underway against U.S. President Donald Trump is stopped, the world is moving on a fast track to a potential nuclear confrontation between the United States, and Russia and China.

First is the ongoing financial component of the crisis. Despite the lies from leading Trans-Atlantic governments, from the swindlers of the Too Big to Fail banks and shadow banking operations, and from their facilitators running central banks — such as the Bank of England, the U.S. Federal Reserve, and the European Central Bank — all proclaiming that a robust global economic recovery is underway, the debt-bloated financial system is in reality headed for a collapse more devastating than that of 2008. There has been a proliferation of warnings to that effect, which echo the analysis of U.S. economist Lyndon LaRouche, who accurately forecast the collapse in 2008 of the mortgage-backed securities bubble.

This was further usefully amplified by the former chief economist of the Bank for International Settlements, William White, who told the Daily Telegraph‘s Ambrose Evans Pritchard on the sidelines of this week’s Davos gathering that the collapse of the present debt bubble is inevitable, due to the “Catch 22” caused by the virtually zero percent interest policy of the central bankers. This has been “pouring more fuel on the fire,” White said. “Central banks are now caught in a ‘debt trap.’ They cannot keep holding rates near zero as global inflation pressures build because that will lead to an even more perilous financial bubble, but they cannot easily raise interest rates either because it risks blowing up the system.” White has repeatedly argued that the economic models in use today for trading such financial instruments as derivatives, swaps, etc., are terribly flawed, and that they would lead to “unintended consequences”, including possibly a chain-reaction debt collapse. Like LaRouche, White forecast the financial crash of 2008.

Even as the financiers and corporate elites are toasting each other in Davos for their genius in running up the world’s biggest bubble ever, there must be an awareness among some of them that the collapse of this empire of debt could mean the end of their dominance and privilege, perhaps giving them an “apres moi, le deluge” moment!

Second, is the resurgence of the utopian neocons, from both inside and outside the Trump administration, scheming to prevent the president from fulfilling his campaign promise to end their domination of foreign and military policy. Trump’s pledge to seek positive, collaborative relations with Russia and China poses an existential threat to the neocons and their imperial financial and corporate patrons, who have employed geopolitical manipulations to maintain their power since the end of the Second World War. They dominated the strategic policy of the Bush and Obama administrations, launching numerous wars, running a coup in Ukraine, extending the NATO deployment eastward to the borders of Russia, and engaging in a confrontational military posture with China in the South China Sea. During his campaign, Trump warned that the provocative policies and the “endless wars” of the two previous administrations would be continued were Hillary Clinton elected. He pledged he would put an end to “regime change wars”, which he charged had cost trillions of dollars and resulted in millions of casualties, worsening the security situation facing the U.S. and its allies. He also promised to establish friendly relations with Vladimir Putin, to collaborate in defeating terrorism.

The only politicians on Capitol Hill who seem to be concerned about the potential weaponization of the FBI and Justice Department against a rival presidential campaign are Republicans. They are also the only ones who seem to want to make sure all Americans know about it.

Democrats, on the other hand, couldn’t care less. In fact, many of them are activelyundermining efforts by GOP leaders and rank-and-file members to inform Americans about what will quite possibly be a scandal so bad nothing we’ve seen before comes close in comparison.

Earlier this month Americans who watch something other than fake news networks like CNN, ABC News, MSNBC, and so forth learned that Republican leaders on the House Intelligence Committee, after months of investigation and review of findings, authored a four-page memo that allegedly documents the systematic abuse of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court by Deep State operatives within DOJ and the FBI, on behalf of the Obama administration.

The memo purports to show that operatives schemed to improperly obtain a FISA court surveillance warrant that was used to spy on President Donald J. Trump’s campaign, then, perhaps, to undermine his transition and presidency in the months afterward. Were that not so, then “human barometer” Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, wouldn’t be working so hard (along with other Democrats and their sycophant mouthpieces in the media and commentariat) to discredit its contents before Americans have even seen it.

“Rep. Adam Schiff has many talents, though few compare to his ability to function as a human barometer of Democratic panic. The greater the level of Schiff hot, pressured air, the more trouble the party knows it’s in,” writes Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberly A. Strassel.

She noted further:

Mr. Schiff’s millibars have been popping ever since the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, on which he is ranking Democrat, last week voted to make a classified GOP memo about FBI election year abuses available to every House member. Mr. Schiff has spit and spun and apoplectically accused his Republican colleagues of everything short of treason. The memo, he insists, is “profoundly misleading,” not to mention “distorted” and “political,” and an attack on the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He initially tried to block his colleagues from reading it. Having failed, he’s now arguing Americans can know the full story only if they see the underlying classified documents.

How convenient, she continued, since the Justice Department has already come out in opposition to releasing the memo — which is hard to believe, given that Trump is the likely target of abuse.

Last weekend during an interview with allied media (CNN), Schiff even when so far as to insinuate that American citizens are too stupid to understand the four-page memo; odd, given that while English may be a second language in the “sanctuary state” of California, it’s not in the rest of the country. “Because the American people, unfortunately, don’t have the underlying materials and therefore they can’t see how distorted and misleading this document is.”

Right.

It could be that what’s really making Schiff and the Democrats nervous is that the contents of the memo, which is very well sourced, according to reports, are very likely a spot-on finding of illegal abuse of the FISA court.

GOP lawmakers think so. “Look, what I believe is what my colleagues have said, what I’ve said is the American people need to see this. We want the journalists in this great country to see this. Mostly, we want the American people to understand what the FBI did, how wrong it was,” Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, told Fox News last week.

“I believe this will not end just with firings. I believe there are people who will go to jail. I was very persuaded by the evidence,” noted Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., in a separate Fox News interview.

Regulators in Chile ordered the permanent closure of Barrick’s Pascua Lama Gold Project on their side of the border. This is very bad news for Barrick because the majority of gold mine is located on the Chilean side of the project. The massive Pascua Lama Gold Mine straddles the border and is situated in both Chile and Argentina.

According to Barrick’s mining plan, the large open-pit mine would be located predominantly in Chile, while the processing plant would be constructed and operated on the Argentinian side. However, after years of protest by locals through government agencies as well as serious environmental concerns, on January 17th, the SMA, the Chilean Environmental Superintendence ordered the permanent closure of Barrick Gold’s Pascua Lama open-pit gold mine project and imposed a fine of approximately $12 million on the company.

Now, Barrick’s official response was quite interested indeed:

The Pascua-Lama project is currently operating under a temporary closure plan in Chile. During this period, the Company has continued to manage all aspects of the project in a responsible manner.

The sanction is part of a re-evaluation process ordered by the country’s Environmental Court in 2014 and relates to historical compliance matters at the Pascua-Lama project. The revised sanction includes a reduction of the original administrative fine imposed by the SMA in 2013, from approximately $16 million to $11.5 million. Based on a preliminary review of the resolution, the SMA has not revoked Pascua-Lama’s environmental permit (RCA) but has ordered the closure of existing facilities on the Chilean side of the project, in addition to certain monitoring activities. The Company will complete a detailed analysis of these requirements and will provide further details in due course.

For new readers, Barrick is the largest gold mining company in the world with annual production over five million ounces per year. There are two interesting aspects of Barrick’s response to Chile’s SMA mine closure.

First… Barrick states the Pascua-Lama Project is currently operating under a “temporary” closure plan in Chile. While Barrick may be operating under the illusion of a TEMPORARY closure plan, Chile’s Environmental Superintendence has not only ordered the permanent closure of their side of the project; they also included the closure of all surface mine facilities.

Second… Barrick makes a positive claim that the SMA did not revoke Pascua-Lama’s environmental permit (RCA). While this may be spun as a win by Barrick, the only reason Chile’s governmental agency did not revoke Barrick’s environmental permit was to be able to oversee the proper closure of the company’s project on their side of the border.

According to the article Complete and Permanent Closure of Pascua Lama: The Power of Conviction and Persistence, published on MiningWatch.ca, Chile’s SMA did not revoke the environmental permit for the following reason:

(…) with the cancelation of the RCA, the state loses the normative basis for imposing environmental mitigation measures during project closure, which are fundamental to control environmental risks and damage.

So, what we see here is the difference between “Corporate Spin” of the situation versus the “actual legitimate reasons” by Chile’s governmental agency. Chile’s SMA did not revoke Barrick’s environmental permit because they want the legal ability to manage any environmental risks or damages.

While some readers may view my stance on corporate corruption by large mining companies as being a “LEFTIST,” I rather look at it as what is “FAIR” for everyone. Actually, I am quite surprised by individuals in the alternative media community who back these large corporate mining companies against the interests of the local populations in foreign countries. I gather the mindset of these individuals in the alternative media community is that it’s okay to protest about the corruption by the Fed, Central Banks, and large corporations when it is impacting a person living in the WEST, but a different story entirely when it comes to the same principle applied to indigenous and local peoples in foreign countries.

For example, I have written several articles about the blatant disregard for local communities and their environmental concerns on Tahoe Resources Escobal Mine in Guatemala. The Escobal Mine has been and continues to be plagued by the protest of large numbers of local peoples surrounding the mine.

While Guatemalan Supreme Court reinstated Tahoe’s Escobal Mine license on Sept 12th, after it was temporarily banned on July 6th, the legal battle continues as the mine is still plagued with ongoing local protests as well as a road blockade that delivers vital supplies to the mine. With the company unable to continue operations, on Jan 15th, Tahoe Resources cut 25% of its workforce (250 people) at its mine. The company stated that there could be more worker cuts if the legal battle drags on.

Okay, getting back to Barrick’s Pascua-Lama Project. Because the Chilean Government has decided to protect the vital glaciers and the environment surrounding the Pascua-Lama Project, by forcing the company to close the project on their side of the border, Barrick has continued the construction of the processing plant on the Argentine side. Barrick hopes to mine the smaller ore body on the Argentine side of the project as well as move forward with a plan to mine Chile’s ore body by utilizing an underground mine.

Unfortunately, Barrick does not understand when NO means NO. While the company is putting out public statements that the environmental concerns of surface mining are in the past and that they plan to move forward with an underground mine, the Chilean locals and governmental agencies aren’t buying it.

Again, according to the MiningWatch article linked above:

Barrick asserts that the charges address past problems and claims it is now focused on a responsible future that envisions the option of an underground mine. The company claims that this proposal would addressing community concerns by reducing the project’s environmental impact.

Barrick’s actions speak louder than its words. During years of conflict over the Pascua Lama project, Barrick trampled local interests that respect and protect glaciers, water, and nature in general. It is precisely Barrick’s actions – and the importance and fragility of the ecosystems that they affect – that the SMA took into account in ordering the closure of the mine site.

At the Observatory of Environmental Conflicts (OLCA), we have accompanied the local community in its resistance to the ill-conceived Pascua Lama project since its inception 17 years ago. We have witnessed Barrick’s strategies to divide, co-opt, harass and discredit local actors; its financing of political campaigns; and the withdrawal of the state from the area, making communities dependent on the mining company for education, health care, and local development initiatives. We have exposed all of this as it occurred and countered it to the best of our abilities.

Projects like Pascua Lama are only made viable through corruption, the violation of human rights, and by putting at risk essential ecosystems.

You see, a massive gold mine the size of Pascua-Lama, with its serious environmental issues, would be very difficult to take place in a Western country where there are much more strict environmental standards enforced by governmental agencies. However, in many third-world countries that are plagued with corrupt ruling parties, big corporate MONEY TALKS.

Since the Financial Crisis, the number of renters surged at a blistering pace, and renters became a majority in 42 cities, but the trend has now reversed.

The number of people living in rented housing in the US has surged by 23 million over the past 10 years. This is the period that includes the Housing Bust. But the number of people living in owner-occupied homes (“homeowners”) inched up only by 679,000.

Over the same period, the total US population has increased by 23.7 million. In other words, the growth in the renter population absorbed nearly the entire growth in the population.

In 2006, of the 100 largest cities, only 20 had a higher renter population than owner population. Ten years later, 42 cities do.

Of the top 100 cities, only three experienced a decrease in rentership rate: Anchorage, AK (-1.3%), Irving, TX (-2.5%) and Winston-Salem, NC (-3.6%). The other 97 cities all experienced an increase in rentership rates, according to a report by RentCafé, based on data from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey.

The list below shows the 25 cities where the rentership rate has increased the fastest from 2006 to 2016. Gilbert, AZ, is number one. Its rentership rate grew by 53.4%. But Gilbert is special. While the absolute number of renters in Gilbert surged over the decade, the city’s overall population experienced a spectacular boom, and the number of homeowners surged too, and the rentership rate, at 30.6%, remains the second lowest of the top 100 cities, though it grew the fastest.

By contrast, Toledo is number five on this list. In 2006, its rentership rate was 38.3%. Over the past 10 years, the rate grew by 31.3% to reach 50.3%. But Toledo’s overall population declined over the period, which helped boost the rentership rate.

The cities in the list are in order of how fast their rentership rates grew (right column). Even for number 25, Baton Rouge, the rentership rate still grew by over 22%!

GOP Congressional investigators have written six letters to individuals or entities involved or thought to be involved in the funding, creation or distribution of the salacious and unverified “Trump-Russia dossier” believed to have been inappropriately used by the FBI, DOJ and Obama Administration in an effort to undermine Donald Trump as both a candidate and President of the United States.

Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SCS) wrote six Judiciary Committee letters requesting information from: John Podesta, Donna Brazille, Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Robbie Mook, the DNC, and Hillary For America Chief Strategist Joel Benenson.

A brief refresher of facts and allegations:

The DNC and Hillary Clinton’s PAC was revealed by The Washington Post to have paid opposition research firm Fusion GPS for the creation of a dossier that would be harmful to then-candidate Donald Trump.
Fusion commissioned former UK spy Christopher Steele to assemble the dossier – which is comprised of a series of memos relying largely on Russian government sources to make allegations against Donald Trump and his associates.
According to court filings, Fusion also worked with disgraced DOJ official Bruce Ohr, and hired his CIA-linked wife, Nellie Ohr, to assist in the smear campaign against Trump. Bruce Ohr was demoted from his senior DOJ position after it was revealed that he met with Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson as well as Christopher Steele – then tried to cover it up.
Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, denied under oath to the Senate Intelligence Committee that he knew about the dossier’s funding, while Clinton’s former spokesman, Brian Fallon, told CNN that Hillary likely had no idea who paid for it either.
Current and past leaders of the DNC, including Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) also denied knowledge of the document’s funding.
Podesta met with Fusion co-founder Glenn Simpson the day after the Trump-Russia dossier was published by Buzzfeed News.

The Senate Judiciary Committee letters read in part:

In October 2017, the Washington Post reported that Hillary for America and the Democratic National Committee had funded, via Fusion GPS, Christopher Steele’s creation of a series of memos relying largely on Russian government sources to make allegations against Donald Trump and his associates. A letter from the law firm Perkins Coie acknowledged that, ” [t]o assist in its representation of the DNC and Hillary for America, Perkins Coie engaged Fusion GPS in April of2016″ and that “the engagement concluded prior to the November 2016 Presidential election

the Committee has been investigating the FBI’ s relationship with Christopher Steele during this time his work was funded by Hillary for America and the DNC. The scope of our review includes the extent to which the FBI may have relied on information relayed by Mr. Steele in seeking judicial authorization for surveillance of individuals associated with Mr. Trump. It also includes whether any applications that may have been made for permission for such surveillance fully and accurately disclosed:

(1) the source of Fusion GPS’s and Mr. Steele’s funding;

(2) the degree to which his claims were or were not verified;

(3) the motivations of Mr. Steele, his clients, and his sources; and

( 4) representations about their contacts with the press.

The letter then goes on to list twelve questions – the last being a request for all communications between a list of 40 individuals or entities – including Christopher Steele, Bruce Ohr, Peter Strzok, Andrew McCabe, Glenn Simpson and former CIA Director John Brennan.

The six recipients of letters have two weeks to comply with the following requests (note; “Hillary for America” is replaced by “the DNC” depending on who the letter is addressed to):

1. Detroit, MI — Everyone who’s ever watched a Hollywood mob film has seen the scenarios in which the mobsters offer “protection” to local businesses in exchange for money. The scheme is called a protection racket and is usually conducted by criminals. However, as a case in Detroit illustrates, police officers have recently gotten in on the game.

Sadek Kaid, who owns a Marathon gas station in northwest Detroit called police last month to report a crime in progress which was taking place inside his store. An irate customer, who was upset with the price of an item, lost it and began smashing up the store and throwing items off the shelves.

Kaid called 911.

Several minutes passed and Kaid never received a response, so, he hit redial and called back. Still, nothing.

The customer smashed up Kaid’s store for nearly an hour and police never showed up.

“The dispatcher said, ‘It’s because you don’t have the Green Light,’ ” Kaid said, according to Detroit News. “The customer was in here destroying the store, throwing everything off the shelves. He was here for almost an hour before he left. When the police finally came, they told us the Green Light locations get priority.”

Although police tout the ‘Project Green Light’ system as a means of preventing crime, in essence, it is merely a hi-tech version of the mafia’s protection racket with ominous police state undertones.

As the Detroit News reports, “businesses pay between $4,000 and $6,000 to join Project Green Light, a program that allows police to monitor businesses’ video surveillance feeds in real time. The cost covers installation of high-definition cameras and lighting. There also is a monthly fee of up to $150 for cloud-based video storage.”

For paying the cops the exorbitant fees to essentially let police spy on them 24/7, businesses get Priority 1 status on calls to 911. Now, the businesses who can’t afford to pay the m̶a̶f̶i̶a̶ police for protection are getting left out in the cold.

“It’s not fair,” said Abdo Nagi, owner of a 76 gas station on Grand River on Detroit’s west side that is not part of the program, according to the News. “We should all be equal. I pay high taxes already. Now I have to pay extra to get the police to come?

“Don’t get me wrong: If someone has a weapon and we call the police, they get here fast,” Nagi said. “But with other things, it takes a long time. There were kids in here beating up another kid last year, and by the time the cops got here, they were gone.”

According to Detroit News, Priority 1 runs are given precedence over other emergency calls, although Police Chief James Craig said Green Light runs don’t trump violent crimes. But per the agreement with the city, if there are simultaneous calls from two business owners reporting similar crimes, police prioritize calls from the Green Light locations.

On top of the mafia-esque tone of this program is the fact that business owners are essentially constructing their own police state—and they are paying for it.

Likely salivating over the idea of having cameras recording everything in the city, city officials are now considering making the Green Light Program mandatory. However, that won’t happen until at least next year, according to Mayor Mike Duggan.

Duggan says everyone loves the program and if you don’t like it you’re a criminal.

“The level of enthusiasm is so high,” he said. “Our resistance comes almost entirely from people who appear to have a relationship with the people up to no good in their parking lots.”

However, not all businesses can simply shell out thousands of dollars to the cops for protection and they aren’t criminals at all.

“It sounds like a great idea, but I just can’t afford it,” said Jesus Hernandez, owner of Abby’s Party Store. “If the city makes it mandatory, I’ll just have to close at 10. That won’t make a big difference during the week, but on the weekends I’ll lose money.”

Perhaps the Detroit police would do well to study the model of Dale Brown who owns and operates his own ‘private’ police force.
