More than 633,000 voter records were illegally extracted from the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office shortly before the 2020 presidential election, according to newly released White House documents.
The files contained voters’ names, birth dates, addresses, and other personal information.
Roughly 930 records included protected information belonging to domestic violence victims, judges, law enforcement officers, and other individuals whose personal details were not meant to be publicly accessible.
The FBI identified a suspect who admitted taking the records, but Arizona prosecutors declined to bring charges.

Suspect Exploited Vulnerability in Election Website
The records were released Thursday by the White House Government Transparency Task Force and included intelligence-community logs and FBI investigative documents.
According to the FBI, the voter records were unlawfully extracted from the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office website.
The suspect, whose name remains redacted, previously worked for an unidentified city before becoming self-employed repairing computers and removing viruses.
He told FBI agents that he discovered a vulnerability in the county’s website while attempting to register to vote in 2020.
The man then developed a computer program capable of extracting voter information from the system.
Man Admitted Downloading Up to 2 Million Records
Although officials confirmed that 633,000 files were exfiltrated, the suspect told investigators that he downloaded between one million and two million voter records.
