Warning for 2026! If we don’t learn from history, we’re doomed to repeat it

    We often hear the refrain: “If we don’t learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it,” and sure enough, we do it all the time. We rely on politicians who tell us everything is okay when it isn’t. The growing chaos that’s happening in America right now is similar to the precursors that preceded the Spanish Civil War of 1936. Winston Churchill understood European politics and watched the developing Spanish internal conflict through the eyes of a British politician concerned about the growing militarization of Germany and a new European war.

    Churchill, accused of the WWI British Military fiasco at Gallipoli, Turkey, was excluded from participating in the post-WWI deliberations of the League of Nations. He watched the growing Nazi menace that threatened Europe while seeing the British Government struggling to understand how to avoid the events they knew they couldn’t, preparing for another European war. Britain needed to rearm and upgrade, and they weren’t ready. Churchill might have been out, but he wasn’t ignored. His published views hung over the British Government like shadows on the wall, warning over and over again what was coming at ’em. He studied the growing Nazi military machine created in violation of the Versailles Treaty that concluded World War I. He argued with the British appeasers, politicians dragging their feet, incapable of making a decision without the total agreement of the other British cabinet members. Churchill was also wary of the expanding Communist menace from Soviet Russia, a danger he understood implicitly because Soviet agents were meddling in governments all over Europe.

    Of special concern was Spain’s growing civil disorder while watching the collapsing European political situation, who allied with whom, who didn’t, and why. Churchill knew another European war was coming and that Great Britain was not even remotely prepared. In July 1936, Spain, a country with a parliamentary-monarchy form of government, like Great Britain, was in political turmoil, facing a Communist revolution, like we are experiencing here in America right now. Addressing the Spanish problem, Churchill wrote:
