Secretary of War Pete Hegseth on Tuesday unveiled a new artificial intelligence initiative described as the Pentagon’s most advanced step yet toward integrating generative AI across U.S. military operations.

In a post on X, Hegseth announced the launch of GenAI.mil, an AI platform powered by Google Cloud’s Gemini for Government. The system, he said, “puts the world’s most powerful frontier AI models directly into the hands of every American warrior.”

“The future of American warfare is here, and it’s spelled AI,” Hegseth said in a video message shared alongside the post. “As technologies advance, so do our adversaries. But here at the War Department, we are not sitting idly by.”

According to a Fox Business report, the new platform is part of a broader push to embed generative AI tools into every layer of the military’s “daily battle rhythm.” The Pentagon confirmed the rollout in an official news release, describing GenAI.mil as the foundation for an AI-driven transformation of defense operations.

Hegseth said the department is “pushing all of our chips in on artificial intelligence as a fighting force,” adding that “the Department is tapping into America’s commercial genius, and we’re embedding generative AI into our daily battle rhythm.”

The platform’s introduction, he said, will allow soldiers, analysts, and engineers across the armed forces to access frontier-level AI models for intelligence synthesis, logistics, and combat readiness. The Pentagon confirmed that additional world-class AI systems will be made available to U.S. civilians, contractors, and military personnel as part of the initiative, with free training provided to all Department of War employees.

Under Secretary of War for Research and Engineering Emil Michael said the department views AI as central to America’s defense dominance. “There is no prize for second place in the global race for AI dominance,” he said. “We are moving rapidly to deploy powerful AI capabilities like Gemini for Government directly to our workforce. AI is America’s next Manifest Destiny, and we’re ensuring that we dominate this new frontier.”
