Upon arrival, officers observed a 39-year-old female unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased.
Criminality is not suspected. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing.
The New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner reported that both the cause and manner of Trachtenberg’s death are “undetermined.” This conclusion followed her family’s objection to an autopsy due to religious reasons.
In short, the actual cause of death will never be known. However, some speculate that her declining health might be due to the liver transplant she had prior this year. And others speculate that this procedure became necessary due to excessive alcohol consumption.
