from The National Pulse:

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has pledged to donate $45 million per month to a super political action committee (PAC) supporting the re-election of former President Donald Trump, marking a significant political move by the world’s richest individual. This information emerged in a Wall Street Journal report based on sources familiar with the situation.

Musk made this donation to America PAC mere days before he publicly endorsed Trump. This group, formed in June, is focused on funding Trump’s presidential campaign. Musk had previously promised not to financially back either Trump or President Joe Biden in their anticipated rematch for the White House. In March, Musk wrote on social media platform X that he would not donate to either presidential candidate.

Despite his earlier stance, Musk has shown increased political activity in recent months, especially in his support for Trump. This support was amplified after an assassination attempt on Trump at a campaign rally on Saturday. However, it remains uncertain how Musk’s political shift might affect the perception of Tesla among its buyers, especially in progressive markets like California.

Other notable tech figures, including Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss and Palantir Technologies cofounder Joe Lonsdale, have also contributed funds to the America PAC, according to the WSJ.

Musk has a history of donating to both parties, previously identifying as an independent aiming to enhance his influence among politicians. Data from OpenSecrets shows that from 2004 to 2020, Musk donated approximately $80,639 per election cycle, with roughly 50.1% going toward Republican causes. Historically, Musk has supported a range of candidates, including Democrat Hillary Clinton and President Joe Biden, along with Republican House candidates during the 2022 election cycle.

Musk’s political philosophy has noticeably shifted in recent years. Many see his 2022 acquisition of X, formerly known as Twitter, as a milestone in his political engagement, where he has actively criticized President Biden. In March, Musk stated, “I voted 100% Dem until a few years ago. Now I think we need a red wave or America is toast.”
