In a press release published on December 22, 2022, Gun Owners of America, America’s oldest no compromise pro-Second Amendment lobby, sharply criticized 18 Republican senators who voted for the 2023 Omnibus Appropriations Act.

GOA believes that by casting this vote for the Omnibus bill, these 18 senators are effectively promoting the Biden regime’s civilian disarmament agenda.

“Unfortunately, 12 gun-control items just passed the Senate with the help of these 18 Republican turncoats,” GOA said in its press release.

The Republicans who voted for the bill include Missouri Senator Roy Blunt, Arkansas Senator John Boozman, West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito, Maine Senator Susan Collins, Texas Senator John Cornyn, Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe, Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell, Kansas Senator Jerry Moran, Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, Ohio Senator Rob Portman, Utah Senator Mitt Romney, South Dakota Senator Mike Rounds, Alabama Senator Richard Shelby, South Dakota Senator John Thune, Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker, and Indiana Senator Todd Young.

BLP previously reported on how GOA and John Cornyn have butted heads over the Texas senator’s moves to work with Democrats to pass gun control.

As Michael Clements of The Epoch Times observed, all 18 of the senators voiced their support for the Second Amendment on their websites. Only Senators John Thune and Mike Rounds did mention their votes on the omnibus bill. The rest of the senators justified their votes on the grounds of national security concerns, military spending, and funding.

For example, Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe put out a press release highlighting defense as one of his leading priorities. He believes that spending on computer technology, construction projects at military installations around the world, and weapon systems.

Inhofe also cited a list of infrastructure projects in at least 17 counties and municipalities in Oklahoma as another reason for this vote.
