Assembly Bill 186, which passed the Senate on a 12-8 vote, would bring Nevada into the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, an agreement between participating states to cast their electoral votes for the winner of the popular vote. If signed as expected by Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak, Nevada would become the 16th jurisdiction to join the compact, along with 14 states and the District of Columbia. The compact would take effect after states totaling 270 electoral votes, and with Nevada, the total would reach 195.

The Nevada Senate approved Tuesday a National Popular Vote bill on a party-line vote, sending the legislation aimed at upending the Electoral College to the governor.

There is a reason why our Founding Fathers instituted the Electoral College in the first place, a really good reason. Without the Electoral College, states with massive populations like California and New York would easily sway the election every time, making it almost a waste of time for the less populous states like Idaho and Rhode Island to get a fair vote. In the 2016 election, Hillary Clinton won the Popular vote but still lost to Donald Trump because he had more votes from the Electoral College. Those 3 million more people who voted for her in the Popular vote nearly all came from California, New York and New Jersey, states that are dominated by the Democratic Party. Trump’s victory via the Electoral College ensured that every state had a say in the outcome, and not just the large blocs of a single party’s preference.

In 2020, if Democrats win, you will see changes in the country that you never in a million years thought possible. Really bad changes that are in direct opposition to what the Founding Fathers set up. For example. Democratic darling Mayor Pete Buttigieg is already talking about how evil a man that Thomas Jefferson was, and that things connected with his name and legacy need to be removed. Yes, gay Mayor Pete wants to start by renaming buildings named for Jefferson, then remove any and all statues. The part that Mayor Pete leaves out, until Democrats seize power, is that that nasty archaic, dusty, old-fashioned document called the Declaration of Independence will have to go as well. That is the ultimate goal of the new Far Left Democratic Socialist party.

America was set up with the Electoral College for a reason, one that the Founding Fathers thought to be quite necessary. It is part of what makes the United States so unique and special throughout the world. We must not allow tyrants and sore losers to change the rules when they lose the game. Nothing American about that.

Nevada passes National Popular Vote bill in bid to upend Electoral College

FROM THE WASHINGTON TIMES: Assembly Bill 186, which passed the Senate on a 12-8 vote, would bring Nevada into the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, an agreement between participating states to cast their electoral votes for the winner of the popular vote.

If signed as expected by Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak, Nevada would become the 16th jurisdiction to join the compact, along with 14 states and the District of Columbia. The compact would take effect after states totaling 270 electoral votes, and with Nevada, the total would reach 195.

While the effort has been billed by organizers as bipartisan, Democrats have embraced the NPV in the aftermath of President Trump’s 2016 victory, which saw the Republican win the electoral vote but not the popular vote.

Leftist groups like Common Cause, Indivisible and Public Citizen cheered the Nevada vote. “The movement to abolish the electoral college is winning,” tweeted Public Citizen.

The NPV would not eliminate the Electoral College, but would render it irrelevant by requiring electors to vote for the national vote-winner instead of the candidate capturing the most votes in their states.

Supporters argue that it would shift the focus of presidential elections away from a handful of swing states, while critics say it would concentrate power in states like California and New York with the largest population centers.
