It was reported last night that Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) had recently met with Wikileaks’ founder Julian Assange. According to Rep. Rohrabacher, during their meeting, Assange stated that he can prove the leaked DNC documents published during last years’ Presidential Election, did not come from Russia.
In a recent report by The Daily Caller the congressman stated that if Assange does indeed have information proving that Russia was not the source who gave him the DNC emails, that the possibility of a pardon may be on the table.
Rep. Rohrabacher went on to state that Assange, “…has information that will be of dramatic importance to the United States and the people of our country as well as to our government.” As a result, it would follow that in exchange for this information, Assange would expect something in return, a pardon.
As noted by the congressman, Assange would be unable to leave the embassy in order to get to Washington without being receiving a pardon, as he is still wanted by British police for “failing to surrender”. Instead of surrendering himself to the British police in 2012, Assange sought and was granted political asylum by the Ecuadorian embassy, where he has been living for the past five years.
It was also reported that despite Sweden withdrawing their arrest warrant, the U.S. Justice Department, under Attorney General Jeff Sessions, has been working to prepare their own set of charges for Assange’s arrest. As a result, before any serious discussion would be able to take place regarding Wikileaks’ source of the DNC emails, Assange would most likely want to be assured he would be receiving a pardon.
Despite not having received the information promised to him by Assange, the congressman stated that he is confident he will receive it. The congressman does believe that they will ultimately receive this information, and that it will be of “mind-boggling and of major historical significance.”
